Got a group heading there sunday for the week. Doesn't look like they got much snow in the last couple days. Anyone care to report what we can expect??

Another post said there was a foot of fresh snow in the Barnes/ Iron River/ Drummond areas north and west of Hayward.

Be prepared for a lot of congestion this weekend, it’s Birkie weekend. We got about 2-3” here in town yesterday.

Birkie isn't snow machines. How are the trails hemi? Will they hold up through the weekend?
I haven’t been out personally in a couple weeks, but friends said they were getting thin in spots especially areas facing south. Best bet is to go Northeast, Ashland got a foot of snow yesterday, Bayfield County in general seen 6”-12”.

I heard 4-5" just outside of Hayward and 6-12" in the Iron River, Barnes and Ashland areas. I rode the area on Sunday and 4-5" should make the conditions solid for this weekend. As for the Birkie weekend, I never understand while people think that should scare people away. I think its the best weekend to ride up there because you have less people on the trails. They don't take the beating of a normal weekend as most lodging accommodations are booked up with skiers.

If someone would be good enough to post some snow reports from now till Monday that would be great! Even worth a beer or three when I get up there!!

Last nights snowstorm came up from the south and Iron River got 5 to 6 so I’m thinking Hayward got some too. Another storm rolling in Sat evening up to 9 inches

Next weekend the congestion will likely be worse. If I'm right it's the big weenie roast and radar runs at Lakewood Resort on Lake Namakagon east of Cable. If I was picking I'd go this weekend and on Birkiebiener Day ( big cross-country ski race) I'd stay away from between Cable and Hayward. The way things looked on radar last night everything Chippewa Falls north picked up a solid 3 inches plus. Just plan the direction you ride that day and you'll be fine. DNR will be out in full force both weekends likely so keep an eye out for posted sign warnings for race crossings if you do get near the course.

Will be taking kids to Winter for the radar run on Saturday. Wish I had their energy.

Any updates? We are hoping to head up somewhere east of Hayward, south of Ashland, west of eagle river possibly Tuesday. Sounds like some new snow coming in mon/tues? We have never been to this area and thought we would give it a shot if trails are somewhat decent.

I know a lot of sleds were out in Hayward this weekend but I was not on the trails, I'm sure someone will chime in on there conditions. I would say just plan on heading up, if nothing else there is plenty of snow in the northern part of the UP to get a ride in. I cant imagine you would have any issue finding lodging anywhere you want.

Thanks. Looks like the heavier snow “supposed” to be hayward area and points south-east-west. Never rode wisconsin trails and never even been to hayward area at all. Unless its when we went to canda fishing when i was 16. Thats been 22 years ago and at night while i was asleep so that doesn't count lol.
I think we are definitely going to head up. Just dont know where. Any lodging recs for the area. I see plenty of places online but disnt know if some were preferred over others. Gonna be 3 of us.

Hayward area is great, just don’t stay right in the town of Hayward. It’s a pain riding through town. LCO casino is a popular spot. Lots of places on Chippewa Flowage. Pats Landing is a personal favorite.

I second the flowage, for sure! The trails around Hayward and Cable area are awesome. If they get the new snow, it should be great riding.

Was in Cable this weekend at Lakewoods Resort. Trails to Pioneer Bar on north side of lake and to the Evergreen Bar on south side were pounded. The further you got from the lake the better it got, and surprisingly the snow is holding up quite well. New snow would take things from fair/good to good/ possibly very good. It won't be perfect. The road crossings will be lean, and corners will be icy, but for the warm-up we've had it won't be bad.

I've always stayed at Lakewoods when up in the area. Full restaurant, bar, and the beds in lodge are really comfy. There's a pool, hot tub, and sauna. I usually don't use them, would rather be riding. LCO casino is also recommended by friends, just like others said stay away from main Hayward. Welcome to Wisconsin trails. Enjoy the ride.

From reports I heard a run toward northern Bayfield and back to Cable area would make a really good one day loop.

Thanks for the responses guys. Ok i will check out lakewoods. I called and spoke with a lady at curriers resort in rice lake. We may head there or would you guys suggest trying to stay a little further north? I guess my thinking is we are trying to stay close to where the most snow could potentially fall but not so far south we are riding in open fields. I also got an email from virgin timbers resort. Sounds like that could be an option. I called pats landing and no answer. Can trail permits be purchased at most gas stations up there?

Quite a few but not all. You can just buy online and print receipt also. That's what you will get at gas station.

If you're going to stay that far south look into cobblestone inn in Barron. Trail goes through parking lot. Allows you to easily go north or for this weeks snow probably west
