Biggest complaint you hear about the Doo 2 strokes, fair or not, is that the isoflex/sealed crank bearings are a ticking timebomb. Seems they've addressed that. Maybe you can get mileage and longevity at the same time now. Too bad they didn't push that down to the 600's also.

This is the main difference between 4s & 2s riders & engines. 2 strokers are aok with plug changes, adding 2s oil, rave cleaning, replacing pistions & rings doing a compression test when necessary just keeping an eye open on engine performance can save one mucho money in repairs & they don't mind wrenching now & then. 4strokers insert key gas & go...yes they should check engine oil level & chain case level too but they just don't. I would not walk away from 850 thinking it is like a 4s...maybe it is?... but I have a terrible history with big bore 2s so very diffcult for me to go back to 2s and treat it like a 4s engine. I sure hope 850 is a break thru 2s engine for the masses for big miles but I need to see the big miles first. Fingers & toes crossed the 850 is the real deal!

Very good you get an A. Only they don't actually close the exhaust port all the way. It's more like the exhaust port is smaller at lower throttle positions and larger at high throttle positions giving you the best of both worlds. Snappy and torquey down low and good top end when pinched. But some people may say I have never stuck an exhaust valve. Well to be honest they run what appears to be fine with a stuck valve but the top end performance is reduced. So some people will have a stuck valve for some time before they actually notice. Of course its best just to clean them every season.

Yup if the exhaust port closed all the way the engine couldnt breath and thus would die.

dont think we can expect this 850 or really any 2 stroke for that matter to last as long as a 4 stroke, but it appears that it will be a design that will start to take some fear away from some.

Ps anyone interested in an 850 rev, dealers are limited to how many they get. How many they get is based on last years 800etec sales. I have heard some dealers getting as low as 6 and as high as about 25. This includes spring checks. Too my understanding if a dealer is aloted 20, and gets 20 spring order 850s. That is all they will get. Call your dealer for more specific information.

Your right..... My dealer can only get 18. I have heard of a dealer only getting 4 but also some dealers getting 30.

Wow! Momoney2123 might want to brush up on our sled history. Slide rails which is now used by everyone was from Cat first. The a-arms which is now used by everyone was from Cat first. In the latest Supertrax, 4 of the 10 best engines of all time are Cats; and Cat currently uses 3 of the motors in their current models (one motor is a Yammie). Doo had two motors on the list and currently uses one. The only thing Doo recently brought to market that might be earth shattering is the ride-forward design. Remember, Blair Morgan was riding stand-up style on a ZR before he went to Doo so ride-forward was the natural progression anyway and might have come from Cat first if he did leave them.

If you took away Cats contribution from the other manufactures; Poo, Doo and Yammie would all have boogie wheels. Poo would have the trail arm. Yammie would have the pogo-stick. Doo would still have leaf-springs. (Sorry, the PRS was a trail-arm rip-off from Poo.) So you would be happy standing up on your leaf-spring, boogie wheeled Doo. (I use to do that back on my uncles ’70 Mercury 250.)

There is pom-pom waving and then there is just blind loyalty.

Totally agree with what AC has brought to us sledders. Many inovations by AC due to their competitive spirit. Rodger S. who brought the slide rail skid, is still with AC. And no one can question the loyal AC fans!!!!!!!!!! That is rock solid support. AC has had many up and downs, but they have that spirit, and survived!!!!! But give Doo credit for their efforts also. They are the one that have pushed the rest of the industry the past 15 years. Not just OEM's. A lot of $$$$$$ spent to due what they brought. Engine tech on 2 strokes, when everyone said it was over for 2 stroke engines, Doo said NOT.

All Mfg's have contributed to where we are, and where we will go from here. Bad thing, it will take $$$$$$$$$$$.

I have pre-ordered a new 600 E-Tec Renegade for the past three years but decided to pre-order the 850 Renegade this year. I figured I want to try the Gen-4 chassis, clutch etc.
When I pre-ordered in the Green Bay area I was told they were allotted "30, 850 motors for sale". This meant it did not matter what chassis they sold but they could only get 30 of any combination of sleds that had an 850 motor.
Anyway, I am stoked as I have not had a new 800 since 2004. Hopefully, it does not blow up at 400 miles like that 2004 did.

By the way, I love Ski-Doo too as I have pre-ordered a new Ski-Doo since 2009 but not for 2017. Ski-Doo and Yamaha dropped large rebates this season in February and screwed me on resale. So, I am not buying til next winter and Ski-Doo can kiss my butt. Likely to be a Ski-Doo but we will see how pricing is for Yamaha too next fall.

Ciao winter, see you in about 10 months.

That's a complete 180!!! LOL!!!

Good decision. I have heard nothing but great things from the guys in canada/UP demoing them. Too bad the snow melted so fast in wisc as i would of been able to take the one the dealer had for a day or 2. Either way the sled looks great. My only complaint right now is that there is a rumor that the longest studs you will be able to run on mxz and gade are 1.45 inch.

Post from FB from the guys who dynod it...

Are you ready for this!!?

For weeks I have been listening to customers and other dealers talk only about horsepower on the new 2017 Ski-Doo 850cc 2 stroke engine. Of course my curiousity got the better of me and I just had to take it to the next level and dyno the 850. I wanted to see not only the horsepower number but also the torque specs. Ok,in a nutshell, "THE POWER IS ARM WRENCHING!"
This engine has impressive torque and torque of course equals power.

The number........

170.4 Horsepower!

This 2 stroke has hard acceleration power. Now, imagine this torgue in a 4 Stroke, incorporated in the weight of a 2 Stroke platform.

In conclusion, this snowmobile dyno'd was a bone stock 2017 Ski-Doo MXZ-X 850. Absoltely no modifications and no timing added. IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES!

New Yamaha/Cat 998 turbo ......202hp, 125 ft/lbs of torque ....imagine the possibilities..
Yes, and it weighs 200+lbs more than the ski doo.

Unless Yamaha/Cat can figure out how to make the sidewinder handle like a two stroke by balancing that weight it doesn't matter when you are going through tight trails and 2' moguls. An anchor is still an anchor. Power steering doesn't fix an anchor.

One of the biggest things Yammie brought to the industry right from the git go was oil injection on their 2 strokes. Their very first machine, the SL350 had it in 1968. Ski doo was the last to come out with oil injection right around 1989 or 1990. Polaris got it shortly before Doo in 1988.

IMO, comparing a decompressed boosted 4 stroke to a big bore naturally aspirated 2 cylinder 2 stroke is kind of like comparing apples to cactus. Not really fair to either of these sleds.

But i still cant wait to run them in 660 feet.
