hit and run at hoopnholler

Now exactly where was this sled parked at the Hoop? Last time I was there sleds were parked all over in no specific manner. The gas pumps are very close to the so called parking area. I have not seen the pics. of the sled, but it sounds as if something major hit that sled. Plow truck maybe? A drunk with a pickup? The Hoop is getting its share of air time lately. I always park on the ice in front of the lake side windows by the bird feeders when I am there. seems the safest parking spot.

He was parked in plain view of the cam not some where he should'nt of been,if you knew this guy as well as me he would never park his sled where it could be in danger. And no it was hit by a sled there were a couple of parts not from his a faceshield as well as what appeared to be marks from carbides. I was unaware of the picnic table incident until he told me about it. Maybe something should be looked at to see what the heck is going on. I have'nt seen the sled yet he tells me the damage is severe. He's coming home today cutting his trip short with a trip to the AC dealer to get an idea of the cost for the insurance. From the way he describes it I don't know how the other sled was able to drive away. Even someone going to get gas would not caused this damage it was a high speed wreck it moved his sled 8 feet.

I don't think he even talked about that. Although it sure would of been a good gesture on their part as he has been a customer for many years. And far as sleds being hit there all the time as I said he's been going there many years 5-8 trips a year and was very suprised this happened.

I'm pretty sure there is a sign inside the hoop that reads "Your problem is not MY emergency" applicable here.

BTW Happy Birthday Josh, I noticed you got to WORK on your b-day!

Yeah thats real nice but when you own a business you assume some responsabilty wether you want to or not. Thats also why they carry insurance the same as if someone gets hurt at your house put that sign up and see how far that gets in court. And this did'nt happen at a buddys house it is after all a business.

Ya know....It's that type of attitude/ignorance that is clogging up the court houses in this great country...... "Screw it, if my property or self is damaged, I'll just sue the person who owns the property it happened on.

Nice.

What ever happened to good ol' common sense and treating people with respect? Go to work, work hard, save yer money and retire. I LOATH people who look for money out of pure ignorance.

Here's a little info NOBODY has yet to mention.....THERE IS A ROAD IN FRONT OF THE BAR!!!!!!!! It's called Hoop'n Holler Road and it runs from 64 to the south right THROUGH the parking lot of the bar and empty's out onto Old M28. My educated guess, after the sled was moved eight feet, it was probably hit by a car or a snow plow. So, if it WAS parked on the road and the sleds' insurance company finds that out, Yer' gonna be sheot out of luck with your claim as you are the one who left it in the road! Pay the $500 deductible and call it a lesson learned. Of course, this theory assumes it was parked on the road.

People get so fixated on looking at where everybody else has parked that they fail to notice where they are parking their own machine. Even if it is next to another sled, it may now be in the road. Which is most likely what happened here. The same thing happened a few times in Sidnaw while sleds were parked outside the old Trail's End before it burned down. THERE ARE TRAIN TRACKS JUST OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR THAT ARE USUALLY COVERED IN SNOW! That once a week train claimed more than one sled.

If people took as much care parking their sleds as they do their $50K SUV's they tow them with, these type of accidents would never happen.

Now, a show of hands.....Who HONESTLY knew there was a road running through the Hoop parking lot?

I'm just sayin'.....

MY friend knows there is a road and no he was not parked in the road. Maybe you did'nt read but he's been there many many times he knows whats parking lot and whats not. As for your comment about clogging up the courts with bs lawsuits as I said when you own a business you are responsible for what happens on your property. I am a business owner in construction and I carry a large liabilty policy to cover myself and anyone or anything that may get hurt or damaged by me doing my work. It sucks writing that big check but it is a needed expense. I agree courts should stop rewarding stupidty with huge settlements but you implied my friend was moron who did'nt park his sled in the right spot. By the way he has no intentions of sueing the hoop. All I was saying was a bus. owner shouders a little more responsabilty to their customers than the average joe. By the way my hands up I knew there was a road there but you're right I would think there are more that don't know than do. p.s. thanks for implying that I am ignorant as well.

He said there was sled parts left at the scene from the other sled.

I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that a sled could be hit by another sled SO hard that it gets moved eight feet, totals the sled, but yet the "hit and run sledder" was able to ride his sled away. That makes absolutely no sense at all. Moreover, even if the "offenders" sled was ridable, surely the driver was seriously injured as well.

My physics are a little rusty (little help here with the formula NASH?), but you would need to either be going quite fast to move a 500# stationary object with a 500# moving object to move it eight feet....OR...It was hit by something MUCH heavier....Like an automobile.

Something here doesn't add up.

Please, don't misunderstand me, I'm on the "victims" side. Whoever did this is a piece of garbage for not fessing up no matter how it happened. Even if it was (or wasn't) parked in the road.

Agree 100 percent can not see how this could be. County mounty looked the scene over and no evidence of any tire tracks of any kind. And theres the piece of a differant sled and a faceshield. I know it does'nt seem to add up but everything seems to point to another sled. All I can say is if as it appears they drove that sled away I would like to know what kind it was so I can get one. I bent an a arm on mine and don't even remember hitting anything that hard. And yes if it was me that hit it I might still be laying there I would quess probably drunk amazing how stuff does'nt hurt as bad then.

thats why i dont go to the u.p. anymore, in 03 going thru bessemer in a major snow storm on our way to eagle harbor and got rear ended by a local drunk and my brand new never ridden firecat was totolled when it fell off the trailer and the ****er ran it over and to top it off he was using false id info so my sled totalled 500 deductible and tralier was damaged, $1000 to fix and the tongue had to be replaced just to pull it home along with a new trailer hitch on the 1 year old chevy tahoe, all in all $4500 dollars damage that between me and my insurance co had to pay, he hit the trailer once in the rear then he hit us again and as we were spinning 180 degrees he hit the side of the trailer and sent us in the ditch and left the seen, lucky or unlucky for us another car tracked him down and he came back, he was plain fing drunk and the cop witch came on the sled too info and left, i should have beat the f--er up when i had the chance and put him in the hospital, all in all in the up i had that accident, 2 sleds stolen and was in gogebic lodge a couple of years ago and had to hide in there for hours when some out of town junkies started shooting at people, stab 1 guy and threatening peoples lifes was enough for me. i just stay close to home now and have no problems at all.

OK, here's the deal polaris62.....Since the Mrs. and I also own a business, I wanted some clarification on this subject, so I made a phone call to a fellow rider/neighbor/insurance man.

This accident would fall under the "Care, Custody and Control" clause in a policy. Meaning, if you were dropping your sled off at the Hoop for them to use, store or work on, then The Hoop would be liable for the damage AND deductible no matter where it was parked. But, since the sled was there "visiting" the parking lot, The Hoop has absolutely no liability. It's no different than your car getting hit in a parking lot, it's beyond the scope and control of said insured lot owner.

But hey, I make sawdust all day, I'm not an attorney or an insurance man!

Just for giggles....Call the local hospital(s) (or doc-in-the-box) and find out if anyone came in after the accident with any "broken" or dislocated injuries. One could surmise that one or the other would have happened if it was hit by another sled.....

At least it might help narrow down the suspect!

Best of luck......

BTW....If it happened between 5-7, he must have drank a TON of soda pop in two hours! :)
