I am still having difficulty understanding how this incident wasn't witnessed by one person.

You said the sled was parked in view of the cam, well this is directly outside the main window that everyone at the bar sits and looks out on the lake, additionally there was a very large crowd inside and out as I rode past Saturday evening, based on where the machine was parked the only direction another snowmobile would have come in that hot is from the south or directly at the hoop because there were parked sleds on the lake protecting its SE side, the hoop directly in front, high snowbanks directly west, I suppose it is possible somebody started their sled in the parking lot slightly northeast and a throttle stuck and ran into it, more I think about it that really is the only thing that makes any sense at all. But with the amount of people in the immediate area and nobody seen this incident is almost incomprehensible.

I believe someone saw what happened but for whatever reason has not come forward. Yes there is a lot of glass at the hoop as well as there seems to always be a sled or two driving by.From what I understand the officer there was less than thrilled with what he was told by the people who were in the bar at the time. He as well could not understand how no one saw anything. From what he tells me the sled that hit him was traveling towards the lake. It seems the only way this could of happened was a sled leaving from the parking lot. This is the only way everything lines up right for the impact. As to the dealer yes he did a quick estimate because he could see the sled was probably totaled so why waste time don't blame him one bit.To imply that he must of rolled it on the lake and staged this is total bs. If you know this person he is probably the most honest I've ever known period. And 600hoic I understand what you're saying but thats why the cops were there to document everything. Pieces of the sled were scattered a ways from his sled. He is insured good thing. Like someone already said what sucks is the fact that it seems to of been another sledder which is disappointing to say the least.

the Trail goes right thru the hoop and onto the lake, so to say he was leaving the parking lot is A far stretch of the imagination...you guys should stick to the facts and not try and blame the bar or any one else but the guy who hit your sled.....

hey f/c guy....the facts are that our buddies sled got "smacked" in the parkinglot of that establishment. He nor polaris62 are blaming the hoop for anything.....and i'll agree it does seem fishy that no one saw anything. But the facts are that jeff (the victim) and his wife arived to bergland (where they go at least a 1/2 dozen times per season) fri. Pm & drove the sleds 9 miles to get dinner at the hoop (no lake racing or bar hopping).....when they left 2hrs later his sled was unrideable. Kinda like dragnet........only the facts!! :)

OH THE DRAMA! I'm going to have to check over on the mallcrawler.com forum to see if the hit and runs in the Sears parking lot get this much attention.

Sucks about the damage.....been there but was a pain free ordeal as insurance took care of me. I have been in the towing and recovery buisness 25 years and am pretty good at assuming what happened at an accident scene and would be curious if you guys know if anything else was damaged (trees, poles, cars, buildings, etc.) Seems to me if a rider hit hard enough to move a sled 8 feet and roll it over and causeing $4300 in damage, he came off his sled sending an unmaned machine somewhere. Not that it matters but this is one tough guy if he was drunk and came off at speed to 1st gather his thoughts enough to find his sled and then leave without anyone seeing something. hope you guys can find the answer to this unfortunate accident.

I am quite sure you would have the same reaction if it was yours. It just cost him 500 bucks for something that he should not have to do. I quess maybe to think that there is a type of brotherhood and a little commonality among sledders is asking too much. I think most of us are a little suprised by actions like this from a fellow sledder, you must not be. This did not happen the sears parking lot surrounded by the scum of the earth this happened somewhere where we don't expect this type of stuff to happen.

yep this post needs pics

I'm gonna be out his way today so i'll try to stop and get some pics. When you look at it it's hard to believe it's probably totaled but with the price of parts these days it sure does'nt take long before you're talking about real money. Build a sled a piece at a time I think you would 50,000 in it.

I have to laugh

I get a kick out of all the drama. A sled got hit, not good... Many posts go right to the alcohol thing. I have to laugh, this is a simple case of some chump not doing the right thing and stopping and fessin up. Chances are he was sober as a judge and was just a ****. But if it makes you feel better he was stone drunk, high, on H or something. You want something to blame, its our self centered society. I only wish I was there to see it happen. After they pulled my size 11 out of his ars we could argue if he was drunk.

Time to put this to rest. I started this thread for only one purpose very simply to see if by any chance any j.d. members may have seen anything while riding by or perhaps talked to someone who did, that is it. Yes the sled was totalled however he did buy it back and has the parts ordered to get running again. Don't start thinking he made out because thats not the case by any means. The only reason he kept it is because he liked it so much. Which is why he was pretty upset to see it wrecked and just wanted to know how it happened. He has spent a lot of time on this sled many hours trying to get it just the way he wanted it. While many of us are content to pick up our sled at the dealer and just ride it the way it came out of the factory thats not his style. Thanks to everyone who tried to help but the only thing he'll ever know was when he parked it all was good, go to leave all was bad.
