Holiday and vacation pay

I have a question for all of you. Where I work we work four 9 hour days mon.- thurs. And fri.is a four hour day comes out to 40 Hour Work Week. We get paid overtime after 40 hours. So when the holiday happens on Monday through Thursday we get paid 8 hour work day but if we take a vacation day Monday to Thursday we must use a 9 hour vacation day. Does that sound fair to you?

Try having a work schedule of 3 12s and a 8 and using your 1 day/8hrs vacation accordingly

Sounds like the 4-9's and a 4 on Friday was set up so you can get a jump on the weekend getaway!....I wouldn't complain, unless you can get 4-10's out of them!

i know as the season gets busier i am really starting to think about the 6 weeks in the YUP..so much hail..so little time..cant wait..

although the negative is it means im one year older..

You only work a 40 hour week so it's fair. If there were a paid holiday that lasted for one straight week you would be paid 45 hours based on your thinking.

I used to work at a place like that with holiday pay, then to add insult to injury you had to work extra one day, or spread it out over multiple days, that hour you couldn't take for the holiday. So I started doing the same thing with my vacation. Record 8 hrs. and make up the other hour during the week just like a holiday.

My point is why do I have to use 9 hour vacation day . But when they give us holiday pay, they only pay a 8 hour pay .

Yes we do get a break and lunch. They pay 8 hour holiday pay for a holiday. But I need to use 9 hours for a vacation day. If I have to use 9 hours for vacation, they should pay 9 hours for holidays. Right or wrong?

Late to see this one, but they're doing ya fairly. If ya like the job, stick with it. If ya don't, don't. Some people don't get vacation...I have a hunch that the 8 hr holiday thing might be a labor law thing, not sure. It's only an hour. How many weeks of vacation do you currently get?

For 30 yrs I worked (state gov't) 4-10 hr days Mon-Thur. never on Fri. If holiday fell during week we worked 3 days 30 hrs + 2 hrs vacation time and have Thur or Mon off. We could also work 4 - 8 hr days but no one wanted that. We were always on the road away, job never called for overtime in 30 yrs.

How many total hours are you paid for in a week when a holiday falls on your normal 9 hour day but you only get 8 hours of holiday pay? The way you describe it, it sounds like you are only getting 39 hours of pay.
