That's good to hear. I don't think Houghton got that much though. Please do post tomorrow when you are out. It may decide if we are heading to Houghton, Munising, or staying home.

Got here a little later than I wanted. But we rode 3 from park view to South range. 10 out of 10 smooth a few inches of powder on top of a solid base. Then did freda loop and it was a little choppy here and there but not bad. People have been riding from mass city North. It looked like less fresh snow down there. Talked to some.guys from copper harbor and they said it was good to there. All I got for now. Heard from the bridge to South range was thin

Sounds better than I expected, thanks for the update!

Thanks for the update. Our group is getting together tonight to make the final determination on our plans. So if you have any other updates or info later this evening, please do share.

Also, i'm curious what shape the roads were getting up there once in Michigan. Were they snow covered at all, or all dry?

Thanks.

Roads were good up to Twin lakes were we are staying . Some guys from my group just got back from running to copper harbor. They said south range was thin to the bridge, once north of bridge great all the way up. Towns will be thin and gas ststion lots bare at least were we were. I know the hotel lot s we passed are pretty full to.

I should add there are feet of snow in woods but it is solid concrete with a few inches of fluff. Just some info for the off trail guys

Riding from Twin Lakes Monday and Tuesday. If one of you guys up there this weekend wouldn't mind posting an update toward the end of the weekend I'd really appreciate it! I've gathered that we're better off taking trail 3 from Hancock through Dollar Bay instead of going left and up the hill past the gas station? Is that where the bare ground was? Anywhere else that must be avoided? Thanks fellas.

I can't speak of going left from bridge, but trail 3 going through dollar bay was fine. Little thin right near bridge but not bad. Everything has been awesome, and they are grooming daily

About a half inch yesterday and dusting overnight.

Drove by the stretch of 3 though Hancock last night and still the same. Nasty.

I would avoid riding altogether not worth tearing up sled.

Just returned yesterday from riding Monday through Thursday based out of South Range. Rode everything from Greenland to Copper Harbor twice. 13 loop was decent early in the week but went bad after warm up and refreeze on Tuesday, snow didn't help that much. North end about 10 miles in would be good if groomed. Rest of the way was very icy, not sure if the groomer would bring it back or not. Going north little bare spot on trail 3 between South Range and Houghton but we met groomer there on Thursday night, rest of it was fine. Wouldn't recommend going westerly route through Hancock. Bad bare, we did it once and had sleds overheated. Easterly route through Dollar bay was very good. They had closed trail 122 (think that's the right number) heading east toward Gay. Everything else was golden north of bridge. They even had groomed reroute by Mohawk! It's thin and snirty in spots but no big deal.
Was very impressed how they kept grooming through warm up first of the week to keep things flat on 3.
Got 600 miles on and maybe 50 I wouldn't care to do again!

Rode on Friday and Saturday put on 475 miles. Started in rockland both days. They are only grooming trail 3 to mass, I would avoid anything south of there. Low traffic on trail 3 to twin lakes made it good. They are grooming between south range and bridge again, one bare spot but not that bad. Lift bridge is bare but it is when I ride in December also. Definitely take trail through dollar bay to go north. All trails north of calumet were awesome. Groomers were our day and night keeping 3 rideable. I wouldn't hesitate riding through Wednesday even if they don't get any more snow

Just finished a 171 mile day north of the bridge. Rode every trail except the Eagle Harbor Loop. Other than a nine mile stretch from Calumet to Mohawk that was very bumpy everything was in great shape. We did not go through Hancock but took the east route through Dollar Bay which was getting a little thin at the end of the day. Looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

Sorry for not posting sooner. Had technology challenges up in the UP. My group road from Mass to Copper all weekend. Put 400 miles on. Mostly exellent. South of the bridge is thinner than north but still decent. Only a few thin spots but not horrible. As posted before, go through $Bay to Linden through Hancock. Thin in the beginning but gets great out of town. Only other rough spot was about 3 miles in Mohawk. Rough but rideable and worth it to get to the good stuff. Also road Eagle Harbor loop which was awesome. Getting into Eagle Harbor was thin at the pavement but you only go 3 blocks. That what a sled is made to do.... Have fun! I heard conditions only getting better with the new snow..

Went about a hundred and forty miles today. We left the Ramada and went South to do the Fredia loop then headed back up north of the bridge. That southbound trip was fine but things were a little thin in a couple of spots on 3, nothing to be concerned with. The Fredia Loop was snow-covered but very hard. Our temps were running a little high on the southside of the loop. Heading back North of the bridge everything was even better than yesterday. They had groomed the rough section between Calumet and mohawk. The reroute is still pretty thin but very passable. Not many sleds here right now so if you're interested in coming up do it now before the snow all melts and the traffic gets heavier.
