Indy 600 vs Indy 600 SP

Looks like there are good deals right now on 2016 Indy's and Indy SP.

Advertised prices are about $800 difference. Base Indy has throwaway shocks and .9 track. SP has decent rebuildable shocks and 1.0 track.

I wouldn't want either track, and I've read the SP is valved very soft anyway.

What options are there to put decent shocks on the base model? Are the IQ shocks the same? Seems you could pick up a used set and have them valved how you want them. Anyone done this? What would the cost be? Or am I better off just starting with the SP?

I probably can't make this happen till the Fall but starting to think about it.

If it were me, I'd get the standard indy and put a new track on it asap. Run the shocks a year and see how you like it. Like you said, I wouldn't want the .91 or 1" track anyways and those shocks aren't worth anywhere near $800 imo. Should be able to scoop up a cobra or ripsaw for $450-500 and should be able to sell the take off for $300.

Looking at the same sled for the wife. Settled on the Indy 600 SP - those shocks will last you a few years, they're some good shocks. I wouldn't even bother witht he base Indy. As for the track, run it and see how you like it before you sink a grand in material and labor into switching it out. It's a good sled for the money

There are great deals out there. I like the SP just due to the hooked bars. You can make a standard better than an SP for a little cash in track, shocks, and bars, but it all takes time.
I ended up grabbing a '16 Renegade Adrenaline 600 ETEC at a good price.

I forgot about the bars - I would want to change those too. I don't ride all that much, so this will be a longer term purchase and I don't mind swapping things out to get it right.

What are those 600 ETECs going for? I assume over $10k?

This is just what I think. If you go with the 600 etec you get a great track, great suspension, gas mileage and it burns no oil. Why buy a sled new and then change all the stock equipment. The price is lower because the product is not the best. For the money I think the 600 etec is a great buy.

Standard, then look for upgrade parts in the off season. Shocks are not bad. I had two Etecs if you ride aggressive MPG and oil is not much better. Polaris resale is usually bad compared to Doo's but these Indy's are holding. I heard the 600 Sports are going for great prices as well.

My Renegade was $10050 out the door with a 2 yr warranty and I use their money for free for 5 years. I never dreamed i'd buy a new sled this tear, but I couldnt turn it down.

Bingo or buy a used cherry sled. Who needs that hassal of upgrading & changing shocks & tracks? I buy top of line sleds & still takes me 3 years to fine tune carbides, tracks & windshields for ultimate performance. Changing shocks is no small task & costs big bucks....no point in changing to something poos has much better to step up to really good aftermarket non OEM shocks if you are going that route. Indy has no interest for me just too plain Jane and I don't buy into the upgrading marketing. BUT to each his own....

You get the pro steer skis also which are great.
I think we are tall lug track crazy these days. If you buy an Indy get the SP and ride it for what it is ...a darn nice FUN trail sled that will out handle the $10,000 Doo and make the 900 ACE look just plain silly in a race.....LOL.

I studded up the 1" hack saw and my 2013 Indy was a hoot and a 1/2.

if you are dead set on messin with it get a Rush AXYS.....it's a buyers market this year.

did u look at the doo gade sport?
I got 1 last yr and it is a nice sled for the $
if indy had a 600 136 I would have gotten that but I had 0 desire for a 121
and to be honest the 600 carb in the only 2st doo I trust for the long haul.
this summer at the swaps I got all 4 kyb clickers for under 500 bucks .

I thought you bought Yamaha's? Joking of course.
Had them all now on 2012 Apex XTX demoed single shot yesterday just to keep up with current tech. The whole Indy concept not right for me but I understand it will suit some. Makes a lot of sense if you want to use an Indy up trade for another every year but keeping an Indy would not work for me. I need a more powerful & robost sled that can take a lickin & keep on tickin. I would prolly meltdown an Indy or flat out destroy it...just not made for pounding unplowed Frs & power cruising but would be fine for putt putt on Vilas snirt.

Doo gade sport was what I figured Id buy, but The ones found were only about $1200 cheaper than the adrenaline and didnt have the extra warranty. The extra horsepower, shocks, and skid were worth it to me

a bud got a 16 few weeks back for 7700 otd with a 3 yr electric start . exactly the same as my 15 did not even change stickers on them . for me I was not willing to spend any more on a trail/2nd/wife sled sled.

You don't want a Sport - it's an old tech, carbed sled and only 100 HP. The Yam guys wouldn't like Doos cause they crave that "tankish" feel. The heavier the better - somehow that extra 150 lbs of iron holds them together.

I will take the old tech any day when broken in the woods.
funny how now all the poo and doo guys knock the carb now but for at least 12 yrs they were all telling me the carbs were just as good as EFI:rolleyes:
like I said I was looking in to cheep 600 trail sleds I had actually spent some time on a buds wifes indy fine trail sled still has the 121 tail wag in soft that my wife hates . only reason I went with the cheep doo was the 136 cobra if poo had a 136 cheepy I would have gone that way just for the efi. I have no prob tearing down a set of carbs every few yrs . I was surprised at how quick that old cast iron bore 600 was. lined up with a 600rr a hand full of times on a long 6 to 8 in fresh snow lake. took him out of the hole every time no shock there . took him at least 600ft to real me in and at least 1/4 mi before my ski tip was at his leg and by end of 1/2 mi lake ski tip about at his snow flap.
I am no doo cheerleader just telling u what stock to stock up to a 600rr on soft snow.
I worked on the rr clutching this fall pretty sure will be a diff deal this yr.
will post next weekend we will be in same area and will deff line back up on same lake.
to be fair I am not 100% the RR was allowing belt to drop all the way in to secondary after inspecting this fall

Didn't look at it but really just started looking. Saw $6200 for Indy and $6900 for SP, both 2016's, and it made me start thinking more. I've never ridden a Doo. I rode my bud's Cat ZR8000 a bunch last week and that's a fun ride. For those you can find a 15 600 for about $8K and a 15 800 for about $9K. Will probably hold off till the Fall by those prices plus 0% are hard to beat. Any of them will be a step up from my 06 Poo.
