Timo, then why the attitude? Why post at all? Your first post was "who cares?" Well, I know that if I don't care about a post in here I just stay out of it...

Not trying to be a b'ch...but I guess I just don't get it. It was a cool post with cool info that I knew nothing about. Then it turns into a silly smack down on sleds. Ezra was just making a point. If ya don't care, move on to the next thread, please.

just sayin :D

It's because some guys are fiercely loyal to their brand, even if it doesn't hold up in a fight.

Nobody wants to think that the sled that they have parked in the garage and mak'n payments on is inferior. It smacks of a wrong decision, and if you defend your brand, then somehow helps to having to admit that whatever it is that you are defending is the best.

It is a mental diversionary thing....besides....guys that defend their brands, are then too busy to go buy an oozy, and shoot up the local neighborhoods and in the end...it saves lives...even if the bolts to the front suspensions are falling out all over the place.

Life is short....some folks are short...and once in awhile you get a bad haircut that means that your hair is temporarily too short. Now who in the heck says short is bad anyways??? Who wants to go ducking thru door ways all your life.....which reminds me....do guys with bald heads get discounts at barber shops?? (I always wondered that....)

moose, I gotcha.

I get brand loyalty - but everybody who reads one single thing in here knows ezra's a cat guy. And he wasn't bashing anybody else...just puttin some braggin rights on his own sled manufacturer of choice. No need for one to get their undies/tighty whities/boxers/boxer briefs in a bunch over that... (don't wanna discriminate...oh, thongs too, I guess?)

Just sayin!? :D (too much? too smart allecky? so sorry...really I am...)

A lot of folks in here, me included, need to just get over the fact that we all got our hopes up - once again - for one last ride and mom nature stuck up her finger at us. Not everyone - but a lot of us! We got no business hanging out in here if we are real snowmobilers!??! :) We've got one strong thumb from riding all day...not fast fingers for typing or clicking a mouse.

the reason i posted "who cares" 'gal is cuz everytime there is a cat news ezra is quick to jump all over it and throw it in everyones face what cat did and how good cat is and blah blah, therefore the post "who cares"

i ride skid doo yes, their all great rides with pro's and con's i just happen to ride a doo. the 2012 cats look mint so when ezra called me out in my second post for being "bitter" that couldn't of been farther from the truth, so i tried to squelch this by saying he was right and that i could care less who won the race. end of story.

Gotcha timo. I probably shouldn't have been so quick to say anything either. But that's how ezra always is with cat (and I have no problems with that...so I guess it just doesn't bother me) Like I said, we shouldn't even be at this board - we should all be out getting our one last ride of the season in...But thanks for being kind enough to call me out in a nice way and say what you were thinking...

the bitter is just fing with guys my mo is giving guys shipt and most know it is just BS. I am a cat guy but like I have stated before I have owned at lest 3 from every still operating manufacturer. a few of the defunct.before boondocking I was drag racing and after poo was not keeping up I started running cats again and then started allot more boondocking and why jump ship from a M ?all my buds have dif sleds I wrench on them all most good till 2k.I did spend mon pulling a crank out of a gade again .I guess I also have some allegiance to cat because I can usualy get some kind of price break form either the pro racers I know or people who work for cat if I work at it so that dose not hurt.but I still know out of the box cant deny cat has the worlds most powerful sleds.and I mention palin because like him or not you know who he is and he is a factory sponsored racer for cat so there is a connection people can relate to like his wife or not you know who he is.just like you know Levi or Hilbert.so that is that.and it is more than just a small race in AK to guys who follow racing it is the most hard core sled race in the world hands down and attracts pro riders from all over the world.and I wish I was riding this weekend the boys went to clam lk but last time out took the a arm out on the 1000 and did not want to take mamas 570 for a last run with the boys kinda like riding a scooter

No worries at all Ezra. Just one thing could you add a few more spaces, comma , and periods to your post's. They can be a little confusing to read. :)

HEY! I just remember what this thread was about. ;) (is that the right smiley to use??)

I don't think I'd be so calm filming a sled that was on fire as that youtube guy was!! As they were trying to find the fire extinguisher I was just thinking "Heck, I know where MINE is and I don't have quite that much fuel in my garage, well, EVER?!"

Moose - Did anyone answer why they run the smaller engined sleds? I kinda got lost in some of the bs that I created?!

fatdaddy - Levi LeValle won the overall title and the race was won by Ross? Martin? I have Mark Martin stuck in my mind (I know THAT's not right?! ;) )so that's why I'm thinking Ross Martin is correct...

This race and the Iditarod sled dog race still amaze me. I have been moose hunting in the area known as the Farewell Burn and the terrain here is absolute ****. It is amazing that the machines and men even hold up, not to mention the extreme weather that Alaska has. For anyone to knock it or the people who have the balls to do it have no idea about the true outdoors. I am also truly surprised the manufactures do not promote more of this race because it is the only real true test left of man and machine. Do not get me wrong I am not knocking any other type of racing because it is all a test of man and machine but this truly is amazing if you saw this terrain first hand!

I am told by a man that lives up there that Palin and his partner get 4 new machines in fall. Two they practice on and two they leave sit until right before the race. They take them apart and loctite every bolt and brace anything they think needs it after beating the crap out of the 1st machine to find weaknesses. I am told they have to run together (Cannot split up for safety and survival reasons) and 2nd man is about 2 ft in back of first guy even Wide Open so he does not have to content with snow dust in his face. I think the Cat guys were running F6 instead of Snow Pro 600's and I do not know if that is the rules or their choice. Palin broke down about 20 miles from finish line but something like last 15 miles has a 20mph speed limit through town. They time the start of the last leg to finish at a certain time in town to publicize the finish. Watched it on line this year while my friend stood there watching.

Ash Lake Ryan pretty much summed up my sentiments. It is surpising we do not hear more about this race. It is brutal on the riders. It is brutal on the sleds.

This is the YouTube channel for the race and has a video to explain how the GPS tracking system works.

This is another quote from AKIQPILOT
"Team 14 left Unalakleet first about 5 minutes ahead of Team 10. The first 95 miles out of Unalakleet is a rough over land trail.. Somewhere near the end of this section Team 14 was traveling across a slough and VanMeter broke through the ice. His sled sat in 3' of water. Tyler and Chris were the first team that came upon them and began helping them get the sled out. The ice was very rotten so the 4 of them were struggling to get the sled out. Within about 20 minutes another team comes upon the scene. They stopped briefly then kept going. Then another team went by, then another. The 4 guys eventually got the sled out of the water and got Dusty dried or partially dried out. Tyler and Chris resumed the race only after helping one of their fellow racers from a very serious situation.

McKenna and VanMeter towed the drowned sled to a small village near by and began disassembly and drying out critical parts. About 2.5 hours later they were back on the trail and in full race mode.

Tuff Team right there. Many would have just given up but those guys pushed themselves and made it back up to finish 4th place"

The interesting facts to this statement are the dangers and the teamwork.

The Tyler and Chris that stopped to help and stayed to help won the race.:D That is Karma.

From what I have heard about the rules Tyler and Chris were required to give assistance since they were the first ones to arrive.

think 2k is hard on a 2010 f6 or a rush etc think about doing it on a 84 el tigra or vmax or indy just crossing the fininsh line would be huge.
