I hope it passes in CA (Sounds like its going on the ballot this fall), and I hope that spreads like wild fire across the US. Been a LONG time coming, and anyone that knows anything about that vs. Alcohol knows which of the two is more harmful.

Point taken but early polling suggests that it won't fly in Calif. They are so screwed out there they need a lot more money than taxing weed could ever get them. I think.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ―

CBS13.com
California tax officials have found that a state bill to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol would generate nearly $1.4 billion in revenue.

A State Board of Equalization report released Wednesday estimates marijuana retail sales would bring $990 million from a $50-per-ounce fee and $392 million in sales taxes.

The bill introduced by San Francisco Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano in February would allow adults to legally possess, grow and sell marijuana.

Ammiano has promoted the bill as a way to help bridge the state's $26.3 billion budget shortfall.
********************************
They also say it would save $1B in costs due to prosecution and incarceration. Hey, a billion here and a billion there and pretty soon you have some real money!

The bill also allows growing up to 25 sq ft for private use. Think I will move back to CA and make a living with my miter saw building 5x5 2by 4 frames and selling them to all the garden supply stores!

Never tried it, never will. And I'm not full of poo. I get my medicinal fix from a bottle of Dr. Julius Kessler. Dr. Kessler can cure it all, although sometimes he is the cause of the problem in the first place.

Legalize, regulate & tax it. Then bye beye black market & all the bucks that go into policing, trying & jailing people for caz use. Gov might go for it if they make good taxation profit.

I wonder if Jen and the Michigan State Legislature are paying attention? :D

They may be, but they know we the voters of Michigan are sending the bulk of them packing at the next election. I am for the toll road idea at the state line, just like Indiana did to me this morning. 60 cents for a pickup is fine, but $1.20 extra for a single axle snowmobile trailer is excessive.

Pay ATTENTION?? You mean like do what the residents would have them do???

Yeah, that will be the day! Thank goodness for term limits....throw them all out of there and start fresh....and this should be extended to Federal seats too.

As much as I hate toll roads, in fact it is the fairest way to pay for roads. If you use it you should pay for it. But...I would make the fee straight up on weight carried. You carry a snowmobile you pay a few pennies more...you ride bike less yet. You haul around concrete or steel with so many tires on the ground you look like a Thomas the Train set, then pay even more.

Oh...and I would also make crossing the Big Mac free.....after all it is the only connection the U.P. has to the lower and visa versa. Charging the crap out of people to cross that bridge does more harm to segregate the two peninsulas than anything else I know of.

LOL, I cross into the U.P. free of charge. It really should be part of Wi anyways. :)

Heard tonight on National News according to the naysayers if MJ is legalized all users soon be on hard drugs like coke, crack any additive thing we can stick in mouth or veins then we will lose our moral compasses & assault the average Joe on the street with guns & knives & steal all his money. I'm thinking hmmm I never robbed anybody or anyone driving to Walmart buying a 6 pack of beer why would I do that buying an ounce of fresh goverment controlled MJ that I would take home for an evening smoke or cookie treat while watching TV. It really pisses me off when the naysayers say I will die of cancer smoking MJ add to healthcare cost when liquor turns my guts inside out & puts holes in my liver & stomach which is much worst but legal. The baby boomers knew in 60s that MJ was a better drug than booze by far & we went no further than MJ we were not interested in additive drugs. Now we are getting on towards retirement & think why not legalize MJ, sit in the sun, relax ,listen to tunes & kick back & enjoy the good feeling MJ buzz can offer. Seems much better than being a messy drunk that looses motor control of body motions, slurrs words whatever. Legalize MJ, regulate it & tax it a bunch & this would be new incremental revenue opportunity for states & feds. Not often we have a new source of tax revenue normally just tax increases on same old same old. An entirely new industry would be born offer new jobs from growing & processing to packaging & retail distribution. Sin taxes are good only the ones who use pay the tax jack the heck out of the tax fine with me still cheaper than street prices & much safer. Legalize MJ put drug pushers out of biz.

Take a 32ft trailer thru Illinois. Get charged same as an 18 wheeler.

02/06/10 01:04 PM TOLL ($4.50) ISTHA Plz 7-Marengo-Ln 52 7

on a weekend, otherwise it's $6.00.

12/23/08 12:37 PM TOLL ($6.00) ISTHA Plz 7-Marengo-Ln 52 7

How in the world doe's that SUV pull that trailer if loaded down. My 390 HP Hemi wouldn't like that trailer at 70 MPH. All aluminum or not. Anyways, I see your point on the fees. No rhyme or reason.
