Guys that don't :
summerize properly
fully warm up sled
start their sled with oil in gas in fall

seen two sleds with less than 1100 miles loose crank bearings

you forgot one, dont' properly break in their motors after new, and wear down their crank bearings because of it.

1997 Yamaha Vmax 600 xtc 10,000 miles--original hyfax, wear rods, engine, clutch & boogies! All UP riding though. Did replace the exhaust donut a few times, and a couple belts.
Have had to clean the clutch and secondary a few times but never fully apart. Carbs have never been off. Trailing arm replaced due to operator error! (stump jumped out in front of me) but I straightened the ski cause I wanted to keep the original wear rods.

MXZ 700. My '01 had 5600Mi. when I sold it. My '02 has 4600Mi. Carb boots and a cracked Y pipe have been my only issues. Maintenance is the key. But that's part of the fun of sledding. At least I can tip a few back working on the sled in the garage.

01 MXZ 700 9,044 miles Couple new windshields, recoil, 1 new track, some idler wheels, 1 trailing arm, shock rebuilds, and gas cap/gauge. Regular maintenance every year, sled has never let me down, I probably just cursed it now! Time for pistons and rings + some clutch work?

if the speedo don't work your speedo key probably cracked in half from a bad driveshaft bearing.

that might be new guiness record for a 2 smoke or does maintenance include lower end, crank, bearings, upper end, rings ,wrist pin bearings besides clutches, jackshaft bearings, suspension wheel bearings? mine due for a valve adjustment at 30,000 but all chasis bearings changed every 5000 wheter they needed it or not and clutches serviced at 5000 also!

Ubee,

Routine maintenance did include rebuild kits in primary and secondary, shocks recharged etc... Never been deeper into the motor than head gasket. I'm on the third track with the first swapped after the 1st season just to get a 1 &1/4 lug. Mine does have the original bearings on everything.

2009 Poo 600 Switchy. 1500 miles not stranded yet.

I rode a 1980 John Deere Sportfire until 2002, wish I would've kept it since the new in-thing is vintage rides!

02 Polaris 500 XC SP, 7000 miles on it, replaced exhaust valves at 1200 miles, they were cracked when I cleaned them the first time, otherwise skags at 4300 miles, plugs a couple of times and 2 belts (never fouled a plug or blew a belt, just changed them) and that is it. Still original clutches, bearings, hi-fax, windshield, shocks, etc

A 1990 and a 2003 Indy 500. The 1990 has 11,000 and my friend owns it. The 2003 has 8000 miles on it.

Skyler,

My 06 Switchback 600 HO had the same hose issue on it. Just got fixed. Unfortunately I have been having a lot of other issues with it also, so I can't list it as reliable. I think mine is the exception as I have heard nothing but good about them.

1996 Ski-Doo Formula STX 2 up with the 583 motor. I just sold it with 7,000 miles. Great sled although it was beast to pull over on below zero mornings.

Even though I am a Ski Doo guy, my most dependable sled I have ever owned was my 1995 Polaris Super Sport 440 fan cooled. 5400 miles when I sold it this year and never had to put $1 into it because I had to. Only upgrades like shocks and carbides. Still started in 1 pull and the compression when I sold it was 130. It was stolen twice and had a few scrapes from letting others ride it. Great dependable Fuji fan cooled motor. Below is the day I sold it.

1996 Indy 500 classic, Only skags, 2 batteries and rear shock rebuild, replaced the belt 2 years ago. Have over 6,000 miles on the original engine. Wife rides it now. It has been a great sled. Might get rid of the stock track this summer and go with something a little more aggresive.
