Looking at New Trucks

I've been shopping for a new truck and have decided on returning to the Ford family. Been driving a Toyota and it's been a great truck. Ten years old, no rust and the only things replaced have been tires and a battery. My opinion of trucks and snowmobiles remains the same, they're all good, you get what you pay for, and you should drive or ride whatever makes you happy.

Now, I don't hang around showrooms and yak with the sales guys very often, in fact seldom, I don't pay much attention to what's out there. So I was surprised to see first hand the new Mustang SUV. It's all electric and is as fast as it's gasoline competitors. It'll take you 300 miles or a long extension cord before recharging. Not my cup o' tea but thought it worthwhile to share a link. It's kinda cool!

Electric motive power is here, and will continue to rapidly expand.

If you want shear power and torque you can’t beat electric motors that’s what trains are big Diesel engines powering generators to supply power to electric motors. Biggest problem has always been battery life for electric automobiles and it seems they are getting closer.

I think shopping for anything right now is crazy.  Prices are way up.  Inventory way down.  Govt keeps handing people money to spend they don't deserve.  1/2 ton trucks over 50k base model...  Nuts.  What isn't though I guess.  Oh and def not a mopar guy but this one always cracks me up.<img src="https://forum.johndee.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=62833&stc=1" attachmentid="62833" alt="" id="vbattach_62833" class="previewthumb">

Haha! Slim, that’s hilarious!

I have no doubt that you know way more about the auto industry than I ever will, But I personally think the auto makers are taking advantage of the situation and will just establish these prices as their new “base”.

No doubt a sale will come around, but who knows when. Gary, this is just my opinion, but I say go for it! Sitting around, waiting for that 5-7% break in price is a waste of time. I have stared down the grim reaper 10 times so far in my life and made the SOB blink every time. So I think I know a thing or two about what matters in life and what doesn’t. I also personally know two fellas that packed it away their whole lives and died with millions in the bank.

I have no doubt that you are great at managing your money, so do what makes you happy. We only get so many trips around the sun and most never know when their ride is over.

Hoping to order a new truck soon too. Supply chain disruptions looking like 12-16 week wait minimum for Ford F150.

No

I am affrade every industry is going to do this . I am thinking the new norm will be 30 bucks for osb and 7 for a 2x4.
20k for sleds and 50k for work trucks

Gary, exactly one year ago as the lockdown took its grip I got a new F150. The old F350 diesel as a grocery getter and only seeing towing a smaller snowmobile trailer cemented our thoughts. I went with the naturally aspirated 5.0. Not a fan of the turbo gassers and the 5.0 has been around a long time. Good luck.

Gary, not sure if you know but if you want hassle free pricing you can join Eaa for $40 and receive X plan pricing.
Usually you can beat that thru negotiating but with supply tight not sure that's possible now.
I know the big B in Neenah has "up front pricing" but haven't visited them to see what they're discounting them. I'll probably give Stumpf first chance.

I have just over 180k on my 11 5.0 work truck . I have abused it bad and to date no major issues at all . Few of the chitty speed connectors they use on trany and water lines electronics ie heater relays like 3 and radio screen and electric power steering . That's it . And again I abuse and neglect that truck real bad lol . Not saying it is not a rusted out pile now but that is not a issue on newer ford's. Oh on 3rd tailgate those are glued together junk . But again I overload all the time like axel running on the rubber snuber

Thought it was usually closer to 6- 8 weeks. What I need to find out is I heard max tow axle is constricted right now.

Thanks for the tip, Eagle. Looks like the Fly-In is a Go for this year. The "up front pricing" is pretty much what it states. The sales staff is salaried instead of commission. And the price posted is usually what you would end up with after all the drama of haggling anyway so it saves you time. They still have discounts for various things so that helps keep the prices realistic. (if there is such a thing) Yes, inventories are tight, trucks are selling like crazy right now and to order one it takes 2 - 3 months for delivery.

I always found that haggling thing an annoyance. You play the high-low game and meet in the middle. Those are hours and minutes you'll never get back.

I've been looking to upgrade/downsize my 2001 F350 Super Duty Dually. I loved that truck, but just really too big for what I need now, and I only put 20K on it in the 6 years I owned it. It was in mint condition, listed it for a couple thousand more than I thought I'd get for it, and should have listed it for a couple of thousand over that. Sold it in a couple days with people lined up to buy it.

I had my heart set on a gently used Tundra, or maybe a new unit. The used prices were crazy, and couldn't find exactly what I wanted. Local Toyota dealer had exactly the unit I wanted new, MSRP at $47K. They would not budge on MSRP, but I was still interested. I took it for a test drive, and was absolutely not impressed with the ride quality at all. I wanted to love that truck, and I didn't. It was loud, clunky, and shifted clunky. Sweet power, great V8 noises, and really loved the way it looks.

So, I shifted my sights on a Ram, test drove a new 2021, and bought one that day (yesterday). I got a significantly better optioned model than the Tundra, and with $3500 in rebates and a better deal on the car I traded, I paid slightly more than the Tundra's price.

No offense to Tundra owners, but when I was test driving the Ram, I thought to myself..."who the french would buy a Tundra if they test drove one of these?" Oh, and the Ram I test drove was not the unit I purchased. It was the "classic" model, comparably optioned to the Tundra, and $7000 less than the Tundra. I went with a Big Horn model.

ezra..you couldn't be more correct, my opinion...as American's we are being bent over, taken advantage of. Get out your industrial tube of KY because it wont be getting any better any time soon. prices going up stupidly in my business too.
