Looking at New Trucks

Just had a guy come in and buy a skid steer attachment. It was 6K. He through 6k cash on my desk and said "I need to get rid of this **** before its worth nothing".... I think that is a lot of why things seem so expensive. Your dollar just doesn't buy as much as it used to. Just priced a new F-150 XLT and sticker was $55,000. Crazy.

Just read this morning that the cost of lumber is high because of demand here in the states and no imports from Canada. Since the Covid Crisis began they stopped shipping their lumber to the U.S. Guess that pesky virus can travel on the trains now so they can't risk it. (insert sarcastic remarks here regarding border security)

As for trucks...dothedo mentioned the difference in the ride between the Toyota and Dodge. Beware of any reference to "Off Road" with the Toyota products. It's going to be a stiffer ride. Toyota makes a fine truck, mine lasted me 10 years trouble-free, no rust, and they sold her within 48 hours of the trade. But as I posted before, they all make a good trucks. Find one you like then brace yourself for the Sticker Shock!

My idiot neighbor just bought one of these....

I got REALLY lucky. Picked up a used 2019 F150 with every bell and whistle that you can get, except the skyroof. It has the 3.5 ecoboost and love it! Paid $34K out the door last September. Going to spoil it and hope to drive it for the next 10 years at least.

You could sell that and make money right now. We took a road trip yesterday, every lot looked like it was going out of business with the lack of inventory. I just read a article about Nissan giving their dealers bonuses for getting people to sign up for 84 and 96 month loans! Crazy what people do to drive a new vehicle.

ezra..you couldn't be more correct, my opinion...as American's we are being bent over, taken advantage of. Get out your industrial tube of KY because it wont be getting any better any time soon. prices going up stupidly in my business too.

Going back to a horse and buggy maybe, eh? I couldn't pass that up, say a little sarcasm! You will be absolutely very well surprised when you get to drive the E vehicles coming out.

Just as tractors, planters, tillage, combines, and etc, eh? Manufacturers of everything blame the large portion of increased costs on tariffs? If past experiences of history mean anything, they are being truthful. Whatever.

Coworker had a similar experience and ended up selling it to them and said it went very smooth. Dealers seem to be giving top dollar as well though, just traded in our 2015 escape for $1000 less than I paid 2 years ago. Tires were bald, passenger door dented bad, sunroof leaked a little, rear passenger door panel kept popping off. I couldn’t say take it fast enough, the new 2020 explorer was a nice upgrade!

heck guys, if you look at some of the more higher end trucks(raptors, Ram TRX Rebels, and so on)
there actually selling at almost 50% OVER sticker price?
there are folks in line waiting on one to BUY
and there selling for well over a 100 grand?
its crazy what some trucks are bringing , as I cannot see how any truck is worth over a 100 grand when again they will rust out in time unless stored and never seen snow and salt! LOL

and there are a TON of pick up trucks these days over a 100K on the market and growing higher and higher every yr, its s shame IMO
there out costing luxury cars and even sports cars in sticker prices< CRAZY
and add in most owners use them for getting groceries and NOT any real work use, or need of a truck at all, just look at truck box sizes, they keep getting smaller and smaller and prices keep going up and up!
add in, they are having CRAZY high tow ratings which in MOST states, legally most owners don't have the driver licence credentials to TOW the weights, making for a lot of illegal towing going on??
guess as they say, have to PAY to play?
not sure how that helps the small time worker that NEEDS a truck and actually uses it for what it was designed for yrs ago LOL

Seems clear there are two different economies these days. "Funny" how the fed will keep showing low to no inflation in its official numbers.

imo,, much increase is due to hwy safety act and a myriad of other government nanny crap.
1978,79,80 deaths in cars>50,000, 23 per 100,000, 2019=36,096, 11.5? per 100,000.
e.p.a wants high mileage low weight, traffic safety wants strong trucks to defy deadly crashes?????
just can't believe plastic and styrofoam bumpers cost so much but that"s another revenue stream i guess.

i'm admittedly no expert but lower speeds and law enforcement would be my, "pick the lower fruits" approach, for lower prices.

Everything with wheels is more expensive. Sleds, pickups, boats, RVs all selling for full SRP. Lumber, household appliances, furniture. lawn and garden - everything. What makes it all spin is low interest rates. Very few folks pay cash. They just want to know what the monthly payment is. That is what has changed. A nation of debt slaves. When something gets payed off it is now normal to jump right back in to a new payment. There are still deals to be had if you don't have to have somehting RIGHT NOW. But people are in to instant gratification. Now now now. Only another $300 a month. Go for it. And then they bitch because ground beef goes up 10 cents per lb. People are stupid.

As far as rust on pickups. There is a cure for that. It might be hard to believe but there is a company that makes pickups with all aluminum bodies. Have been that way since 2015. I have had 2 of them. There is no rust. They are called Fords. You might have to drive a long way to find a dealership but they are out there. Otherwise you could maybe Google "Ford" on your 'putor. I bet they have a website. Just a thought.

Well, we sound like a bunch of old farts sitting around the campfire, don't we? Here's the thing. I read this somewhere some time ago so I'll have to paraphrase and fill in the blanks. In the years prior to say 1970 if you needed a loan you'd go to the bank and ask the president or someone with influence for a loan. Their response would be, what do you have for collateral? And you'd reply I have some cows and chickens and I work real hard. So, they granted you the loan provided you paid it back with interest on time. Otherwise they'd take your cows and chickens.
Sometime in the early 70's the banking industry realized they could make more money by giving the same loan to people that were higher risk. No collateral, poor work history, etc. The reasoning was that some money would be lost, but MOST of the loans would be repaid over many years of monthly payments. Plus they still had the working stiffs that paid their bills on time and preferred to live debt-free once the loans were paid off. Fast forward to today. A couple of generations have grown up since with easy credit, no payments for a year, no money down, etc. Life is Good as long as you keep up with the payments. It's a win-win for the bankers and most consumers just accept it as the way we choose to live. Didn't mean to ramble or stir up trouble, just wanted to share what little I know about finance. Carry on!
