Loud cans

Bikers wear ear plugs to cut down on the wind noise and not necessarily exhaust. Trust me, I know this from experience. The wind whipping past your ears for hundreds of miles causes you to loose part of your hearing temporarily. I have a respectable sounding exhaust on my bike and wear ear plugs if not wearing a helmet (please lets not start the pro/con helmet discussion again). Most bike exhausts exit behind the rider.

X 2 on someone that lives right next to a trail. Take it easy near residential areas and We will keep our sport respectable
X3! We live near a road crossing then a two mile wide open straight shot on the trail. Ill admit I'm a light sleeper, but they do wake me up. And there's no one that likes the sound of a two stroke more than me.
We ride motorcycles too but X2 on the loud exhaust on bikes. I live over a mile away from a favorite biker pit stop. There's nothing like getting woken up to the sound of a burnout contest, or a late night drag race. Even if its nice out Ill close all the windows and turn on the air on weekends.

I am 44 and have an SLP can on my sled, not to get attention or piss people off but because I love the way it sounds. It is not really any louder than stock
And I don't pull into gas stations showing it off, I would never ride around the field at Krupps just so people could hear it nor would I ever try to annoy any
Land owners to disrespect the sport I love. I also would like to add that I also think anything louder than an SLP can is a little uncalled for unless your in the
Mountains where no on can hear you. Now for the funny thing, I actually have a sled necks decal on my sled too!

I noticed that last weekend, every sled that had a loud pipe was ridden by someone over 60.

They are almost as bad as those friggin Harley's with the drag pipes. Both sound like crap..

Maybe their hearing is damaged to the point they need "loud " pipes or cans to hear if their bike/sled is running??

Loud exhaust on sleds or bikes isn't good for either community, just draws attention to either activity and the non-sledding or cycling community, and not in a positive way.

It is too easy for trails to get closed down due to this type of behavior, and much more difficult to re-route or re-open a trail.

Won't even get into the "loud pipes saving lives" B.S.

Well.... I had a can ( old 2008 Aaen ) on my doo. It was cool for about the 1st 5 minutes @ idle or slightly revving... AFTER that, I couldn't take it . It was a pain driving by residental places trying to feather it. NOT to mention .... you can't hear any potential problems with your sled. I use my hearing ( what is left of it ) to notice abnormalities in performance or potential mechanical issues. With that old can !!! no way ! I do have a Super Q on my Poo, not an issue.

Now on to harley pipes.... the f-ers spook me when I have my window down. Yea they exit to the rear of the rider... right into my window. It kind of makes me forget my " kindness to bikers " on the road program. I specifically go out of my way to be kind to bikers, and also have a fear of running one of them over should they lay it down. Maybe we can talk about the " riding the yellow line side by side " issue ? Never could figure that one out .

I just love the sound of the new 4 stroke low rumble. Now to my ears that is cool.

that is where we part ways my friend I think they sound ridiculous. don't think I will get use to them.even the heavy mods like Glenn Halls dont do it for me.the sound alone prevents me from buying a 3/4 ton.
I dont care a triple triple sounds bad azz just sitting there and better flying down the shaved ice

Really, no need to race around in Krupp's field while you wait for gas, with your stupid loud can on your team slednecks stickered up sled. The people who live right across the street are sick of it. USE SOME COMMON SENSE!

Great topic, but you're wasting your time with these brain dead individuals though....I don't care about the sledneck stickers though unless they're coming off and flapping loudly in the wind......LOL...

I only heard a Yammi that I liked " a little ".... the rest sound like leaf blowers idleing....
I kind of laughed, someone at HCS posted you tube of a yardman blower that sounded just like the new AC's.....
I'll have to part ways with the sound too, hard to beat a triple.

We need to be concerned with the future of our sport.I've been riding for 44 years and I know for a fact that loud cans and pipes DO GET TRAILS CLOSED.As cool as you think they sound-LOUD SLEDS HURT OUR SPORT.Personally I love the sound of a healthy triple triple, but the nonriding public does not.We should be more concerned about our future.

I agree we need to be concerned with the future of the sport.
overly loud sleds are 1 thing a bigger concern to most land owners I talk to every yr are the guys going off in to their clover alfalfa any place other than the trail. they always seem to leave the trail right after the sign that says respect it or loose it.W T F ? it is sad when you need 3/4 of a mi of snow fence to keep a trail open.also now that I am ranting remember when ridding a ditch trail and the trail crosses a road you should follow the trail.the trail may be avoiding a guys drivway or home who just happens to own 15 or so mi of critacal trail not eaven buy the turn RESPECT the trail there is a metod to the madness and I get sick of appolagising yr after yr for some of you dumb flucks.
the 3rd thing threatening the future of the sport is 12k for new toys not many kids have that kind of cash or the ability to keep some of this new stuff running in 5 yrs as a used sled

Agree with mandan51......... loud pipes and cans don't belong on the trails.

As a rider and landowner I can see why we are losing trails.

There are definitly some inconsiderate SOB's out there!!!!!!

LARGE cans are always nice. . . :)
100% Agree!

This thread is funny. Am I into obnoxious noise on my sled, nope. However, each unto his own. People should respect residential areas for sure, but outlawing things just isn't the way to go. Common sense should rule.
I guess my horse just isn't as high as some.

But the triple/triples of yesteryear (NO current manufacturer offers one) are still LEGAL, no matter how loud they are. Just sayin'.......

It is not that my horse is too high. There are quite a lot of folks out there that seem to have no common sense whatsoever. There are also a lot of folks out there that have very little respect for anyone or anything other than themselves. A lot of times the same folks have BOTH of these qualities. Short of killing them the best way to control them is to make laws against their bad behavior before they screw it up for the rest of us.
