Loud cans

Both of my main sleds I ride are up there on the loadness scale.
srx - bender can
Viper - Bender triple pipes.

There is no need in my eyes to rev at stops or any other time for that matter. There was a very funny South Park episode about the "revvers". They were on motorcycles but the same mentality applies. If it is late at night, and close to homes or businesses it is pretty easy to stay off of the throttle and respect the fact that people dont want to hear that thing cranking. It comes down to respect for other people. A lot dont have it. I have never had any one complain about my sleds being loud. Thats simply because I understand there is a right time and place.

The only time in my life I have had a cop pull out the sound measuring device was on a friends boat on the Chain of Lakes in Northern IL. We were stopped comming in to a no wake. They had specific levels which were allowed. They held the thing by the back of the boat while it was idleing and showed the DB measurement to the driver. TICKET. If they dont have the device to measure, I think cops can also make a judgement call. This situation should be able to be beat in court with an attorney.

In my teens I had a Cutlass with Glass Packs. That thing was insane loud. My parents did not allow me to park it at our house because they did not want the neighbors to have to deal with me comming it at all hours. I thought it was so cool. Its funny how you change as you get older. I like my cars to be quiet now a days. No need to draw attention to my self. I can definately relate to both sides of this discussion in this thread. The load pipes dont bother me. Its the folks who have no regard for others.

There is my ramble on the topic. I have not read this entire thread. I am sure there is heated discussion on this topic. Im not trying to offend or add to the hot air. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you for that post Tom. Now may I please ask a question.....
Substitute the guy on the sled, for a hot summer night, windows open, and four guys on Harleys with straigh pipes roll into town doing the same thing. Let's imagine these are bandana wearing, leather clad, pseudo tough looking biker dudes -
Would you walk out the door and tell them you didn't want their business?
Seriously - I would like to know your "honest" opinion.
Thanks.

Heck no...
Invite them in with their leather wearing (insert the proper term for biker female)for a drink, and a show.......LOL........

My honest opinion fusion? I'll give it a try so here goes...... The night before there were 3 guys racing down the trail from the Bergland dock, turning and racing back down the tracks by my bar, turning by the dock again and racing back, if you get what I am saying they were using it as an oval race course, after about 3 laps one jumped the bank and landed about 30 foot from where he took off, turned down buy Nordines and rode though private property and that is when I jumped in the truck and rode to where I seen them sitting. When I pulled up in the truck to my surprise there were a bunch of guys (not just the 3) I started bitching that it was late at night, they are racing by residents of our town, running on r/r tracks where people were ticketed and going on private property. Even though I was out numbered about 10 to 1 they apologized and said it won't happen again. I can respect these guys. They screwed up and hopefully they will think twice about doing something like that again. I'm not sure how all this talk about loud bikes comes into play. Please don't try to justify loud sleds running late at night with loud bikes. But truthfully, if it were the same situation with 4 hairy *** bikers ripping through the streets of Bergland late at night you can bet your *** I would be yelling at them too. We want everyone to have fun, get home safe and come back tomorrow, and next week and next year. But you can not come up here and disrespect out towns. Just look at the snowmobile tracks running through our cemetery. How can we justify needing business from snowmobilers when tracks are running over someone's headstone. I'm sorry to be rambling on fusion, but stupid people piss me off. And I don't want their money. Funny thing but when I was yelling at the kid with the loud pipes and he was smarting off back, his other 3 friends with stock pipes didn't say a word. Maybe I jumped the gun yelling at this kid, but to tell you the truth if I had to do it all over again........I would have let the other 3 in and he could have sat outside on his sled until his buddies were done. Sorry if you think I am an *** but that is my honest opinion. tom@berglandbaybar.com

Thanks russholio and xcsp. I do a trail report on my web site and from time to time I write about things I think are dumb that I see people do. I don't do it to try to be tough or act like a trail cop. I do it to try and make people think so they do not make the same mistakes. There are a lot of people out there that do not like snowmobiling, trails going through private property are very hard to come by and very easy to lose.

Has anyone watched the video?

I have a neighbor that has an old primer painted S10. Every morning I hear this dude leaving for work. I believe that he just has a broken exhaust that has been like this for almost 2 years as far as I know.

I think it's friggin ridiculous that he doesn't fix it. It really ticks me off if the dude goes to work early and wakes me up. Literally that loud.

Thanks Tom. We all need to do our part to educate people, but I would think that as a business owner your words would have a big impact with these guys.

Tom - Bergland Bar:
Thanks for the reply. In context it makes much more sense, and I applaud you for having the stones to do what you did.
In no way would I say your actions were unjustified - so let me be clear.
I was just trying to draw an analogy, which now, given the context of events presented, looks a touch foolish on my part. (wouldn't be the 1st time)

I had an almost exactly similar situation with a neighbor about 10 years ago, so I can completely relate.
I'd lay there in bed at 5:30 wondering how in heck this moron could be driving around for months on end with a broken muffler, and no cops gave him a ticket.
True story, we had another incident with same neighbor, and when the cops (county) showed up I told him about the guys muffler. They weren't overly interested, and did nothing as I recall.
More hypocsy.
But put a couple of sleds in northern WI, running 85 DB aftermarket exhausts, and we have an environmental catastrophy on our hands.
(sorry - couldn't resist the sarcasm)

Tom, I support your business 100 percent. Thats awesome that you did that. Its not fair to anyone to have to endure this. At least karma will catch up to these loud canners. Their hearing will be shot by the time they reach AARP age.

I have never been to your place either, but I am going to make a run up your way just to stop in and say hi and have one. I wish there where more people in the area like you.

I use to have that problem with my neighbor and his suburban. A late night visit with a can of great stuff and it's been quite ever since.

We stop by the Bergland Bay Bar everytime we get that way. I've only talked with Tom a couple times and it was just small talk. The guys a straight shooter and there's no reason he shouldn't speak his mind. Call it like you see it. Like him, I'd rather shut the doors then sell drinks to a dickhead rippin around like an idiot with a loud pipe.

Maybe if other business owners refused to serve them a drink, fix them a meal or let them stay in their motels the problem would fix itself.
