Head to your locally grown mall, and put the $200 you would spend on gas heading way up north into some new snowmobile gear!

If you are into shopping, shopping, shopping, and shopping, go.

Obviously you'd be going for more than one day with a drive that far, or you could fly, the airport is basically across the freeway from the place with lots of hotel choices.

I've heard of people flying from England just to spend a weekend walking around the place.

Can't stand the place...

I live in the Twin Cities Metro Area - I used to go there all the time when they had the entertainment floor! Great bars, great entertainment, but now - that's all closed up and it's nothing but a hugeass mall with an amusement park. The park theme is now Nickelodeon Universe geared towards the little kids. Fun amusement park - expensive. Lots and LOTS of people milling around - stepping on your toes, bumping into you - rude people.

The place is huge, you walk your arse off. If you really like to just stroll around and shop til you drop - you'll love it. If you are going there to eat - there is a lot of great food places. It's a tourist attraction - I would never go there to do my regular shopping - I have some great malls in my area of the Metro and I love them!

well it draws more tourists than Disney why I have no idea .I have been prob well over a doz times . I cant stand it !way to much walking if you want to go to 1 store and you park on the wrong side if you cut through the park it is still like a 10 min walk to get across.I avoid it if at all poss usually only end up going if some one is from out of town and wants to see it. I usually try to convince them to go out on the boat or something like that insted.just go to your state fair walk around in the crowd then go to carny row and pretend they are trying to sell you cell phone covers or slippers or what ever the kiosk people harass you to buy go on a few rides then head over to the mall walk around spend a g or so on crap you don't need. then find a hotel get a room and pay them a extra 75 to 100 to stay there for the night and then drive home.under watter world is cool but not worth driving more than 1 hr for the hotel watter park of America is cool if you enjoy hundreds of screaming kids and piss filled pools.if you like cheep furniture made from particleboard that you have to put together Ikea is across the street.if you have a 6hr lay over or something at MSP it is a good place to go they have a train that goes from both terminals to the mall every 20min or so.I have seen 2 good fights in the hall ways at the mall both times little ghetto boy gang bangers. and don't go there park in the ramp and close the bars on a sat night I know allot of people who got DUI at the sat night ramp DUI check point.one cool fact about the mall there is no heat system in the mall it stays warm from the people and equipment in it

It draws the people for sure, It's a big mall with a somewhat small but nice amusement park, and Underwater world (fish). It's worth a trip if you haven't been, to at least keep the family happy. Stay at the waterpark OA and make the kids even happier, maybe fit in a Twins game(have your tickets first). And you could probably make 4 days out of it. Or go during the State Fair, our Fair is something to see, Only Texas is bigger I've heard. Valleyfair is a great amusement park. Do all that and it's worth the trip.

But a trip just for the MOA, maybe? they have all the usual stores, nothing you can't find in any other large mall. And some stores have a couple spots. 2 Radio Shacks?-wth

I go alot - but I live 10 minutes away, so if I need something that they have there. It's usually the closest place. Crowds and parking are not hard to manage the place is huge, Unless your afraid of people.

I read Ezra's after I wrote mine, a little different take LOL.
And I thought I was grumpy.

I haven't closed a Bar in 20+ years so I wouldn't know about the DUI traps in the ramp.
Punks have been trouble in the past at MOA they patrol the place pretty well, and under 16 must be with adults at night.

Pee in a waterpark, now that shocking! I just saw that Sandler movie. It's the adults that do that.

Well now hold on there a second my Buckeye friend! :) I was raised in Minnesota, and as a Minnesota boy we were always told that the Minnesota State Fair was the largest state fair in terms of daily attendance. In terms of total attendance the Texas state Fair, which runs twice as long, is the only State Fair bigger than Minnesota.

Now, I know Wikipedia is about as accurate as my senile old Aunt Martha, but here are the attendance figures I found.

The largest state fair by total attendance is Texas at 3,000,000 followed by Minnesota at 1,790,497, Arizona 1,303,690, Massachusetts(New England SF) 1,260,487, Iowa 1,053,978, New York 1,102,995, Oklahoma (OkCty) 1,000,000, California 941,502, Oklahoma (Tulsa) 915,000, Wisconsin 861,408, North Carolina 858,611, Ohio 814,512.

Having been born in North Dakota and raised in Minnesota (I have not been a resident for 25 years) I can tell you there is not much a Minnesotan can claim to be #1 in, 'cause to do so would bring the wrath of God, and hellfire and brimstone would rain down upon the Chevys, Fords, and Volvo wagons.

You can make fun of the Vikings, you can make jokes about the old quarterback with the bad arm, but there are two things every Minnesotan takes to heart...The Minnesota State Fair and Gopher Hockey.

Don't waste your time or money. I live 15 minutes from the place, have been there a dozen times, and don't see a reason to ever go back. The amusement park is a joke, compared to...say...Cedar Point or any Six Flags. The prices in the shops are inflated, and the "specialty" shops, aren't really that special. Excuse me, I have to go now to apply for the head of the Dept. of Tourism job...

I live about 40 minutes from the mall and go there usally once every other year in between Thanksgiving and Christmas to do a little shopping and to look at the decorations.

Would I suggest any one fly or drive to MN just for the mall.............NO...........If you can find other things to do in MN that interest you(like others have mentioned) then ya make it a 3-5 day trip and spend one day at the mall!

Just an idea if you really are coming up we have two great grass drags that you can spend a full day at. Princeton grass drags (end of Aug. about an hr or little more from the mall) and Hay Days (middle of Sept. about an hr and a half fro the mall)! Better yet drop the wife at the mall (forget to give her the credit cards) and you go to the grass drags!

I was there about 15 years when my friends went to college at Mankato State. It was about -20 but it was worth seeing the wannabee gang bangers in Arctic Cat coats. I thought the the bloods and cripps just went to bright green for colors. It was good to see the police round them up and ship them right outside. Watch Mall cops its better then walking around the mall.

Sorry, moose! But you couldn't be farther from the truth. Come North to the promised land to get your "fair" share of fun. Pun intended, sorry.
Please clicky----->http://www.upstatefair.org/

So in order to not completely hijack the thread, a perfect way to sell the wife/family on a roadtrip from Ohio to Minneapolis would be to have something for everyone. Organize the trip around Hay days and then the shopping goers can hit the mall (theres @ least 2 days of sights in there) and you and the 2-stroke smoke lovers hit the corn fields of Hay Days. But make sure you have at least a lunch date with the girls at the mall cuz it is something to see, thats for sure, regardless of your inclination to shop or spend time in a mall. My .02¢

We may not have a state fair, but MI is #1 in the Nation for the highest unemployment.

GO TEAM!

Now back to the reason for this thread... I've been to the mall, ain't no way you are seeing the whole thing in one day- unless they allow you to wear roller blades!
