most of the rest of the world must be uneducated because it seems to me when I have been Italy Germany Amsterdam switzerland mexico Russia 80%+ were smoking must be a bunch of high school drop outs.but in the Dominican republic I saw very few smoking and most people there are lucky if they get to go to school.we all know smoking is bad for you even some one who dropped out of school at 12 yrs old

The CDC is an American institution called the Center for Disease Control located in Atlanta. It was a study of American smokers.

Geez guys, it's just a correlation, not a judgement. Correlation, like "days that have snow tend to be cold". It didn't say smokers were bad, or stupid, or dumb, just a simple correlation that as education increase rates of smoking decrease IN AMERICA.

It's really not worth arguing over and I really don't care.

better yet walk out behind a hospital usually behind the generators or something tons of doctors and nurses pulling heaters

In my younger years, I worked at a hospital. I think most people would be surprised just how many medical professionals "induldge" in the moocah.

It has no direct correllation to intelligence. Perhaps it's something that only those on the high end of the spectrum understand. No pun intended.

I agree that this is a property rights issue. The owner of the establishment is the one who should decide whether or not legal products should be allowed to be used by those of legal age, as long as there are no others below legal age who would be impacted (I can see a rational argument regarding not allowing smoking where people are that are underage).

I can't see how this is much different than telling the restaurant they can't serve fried food because that it bad for you also. Or keeping the calorie count or alcohol amount to a certain level per hour. And please don't respond with the argument that the fried food one eats doesn't affect the person sitting next to you, because you do NOT have the right to a smoke-free restaurant to eat in. If you think that you do, there's probably no use discussing this with you. The owner is the one who is making the investment and taking the risk to provide that, and ONLY the owner can make that decision regarding smoking, for it is his/her property. That is the principle underlying property rights, which are fundamental to America. You do NOT have to patronize that restaurant or work there, for that matter. In fact you should not, if you want the owner to stop allowing smoking.

For the record, I hate being in smoke-filled bars and restaurants. But it's not my right to tell the owners what legal activities can and cannot be done there. In itself, this is a small issue that doesn't really impact me. But it's definitely part of a larger trend of rights being taken away. If you can't see the parallels between this issue and what they want to do with your 2 stroke snowmobile that you enjoy driving down the trail...

Again, this in itself isn't that large of an issue, but it makes me wonder what America will look like in 30 years.

The ONLY reason that smoking is legal at all is because the tobacco companies are in the right peoples pocket $$. Smoking kills, period. Its an ADDICTION that kills. Some people CANT quit. Its a drug that should be outlawed alltogether. I am tired of paying for high insurance premiums for someone elses addiction. The people that say they enjoy smoking are the ones who are addicted and cant smoke and will never admit that fact. What is there to like about something that kills you?
My .02 of course : )

Should, maybe. But it isn't. And the reason why isn't important for the sake of this debate. Lots of things can kill -- booze, cars, ATV's, and dare I say it -- snowmobiles. The list is quite long. And so far, the ones I mentioned aren't illegal. Yet.

"Your not making a lot of sense???? So what does the "High Level" folks who tie one on have to do with the proof of education and smoking? Protesting at a funeral has nothing to do with my health. Today, at the liquor store I over heard that smoking with a pet in the same room is going to be illegal.

Note: the biker bar I mentioned in an earlier post are all doing well with a picnic table and roof over it out back is their place to smoke. The private club that I am a member of all walk up and down the sidewalk in front of the building. They are exercising as they smoke and don't even realize it. "

Polaris - I am simply saying that the CDC statistics don't mean much. People that are decision makers at companies that drive the economy make poor choices in thier personal life too just like politicians and other citizens with a higher education back round. I do not buy their study for a second. BS. Don't want to get into conspriacy theory : )

Protesting at a funeral may not have anything to do with your health but it goes to show you that our government has different priorities than I think they should. For some idiots to protest outside of a funeral for one of our soldiers is a bigger travesty than me lighting up in a bar. Priorities, is all am sayin'. Like I said, what if the majority decides to outlaw snowmobiling? You would be cryin' in your corn flakes......

So bashing snowmobiling makes it right to blow smoke in my face in a public place?

Maybe crappy internet service should be in the mix to outlaw. lol. Lets outlaw boats and motorcycles too. Still trying to figure out how to put a seat belt on the dang things.

At the club tonight the battery powered cigs. came out towards the end of the night at the bar by the bar tenderesses. They are hot! Does this make it legal. no one said anything, but I have a club board meeting on Sunday and I am sure I will hear that I need to deal with it. Now I get to figure out what to do with our hired hotties. Will I get shot down? OH YES! I have to follow the law. It was so nice to actually see the Band on the stage tonight without all the smoke.
