My new ride is home!!!

After a quick 60 mile loop (before I go to work)...I can say I really like this sled!!...the eps is great...it really does make it easier to turn...the sled has duallys on it and it pushes in the corners a bit...I also had to get used to the engine braking...it's not as pronounced on the xtx as it was on my Attak. ..but still....it took me a few miles of herky...jerky...start and stops...the mid range is killer on this thing...pulls like a freight train...love it...the sound and the feel had me grinning in my helmet...the only thing I didn't like was...that it's set a bit stiff for me...I will need to soften the rear shock up a bit...it's pretty stiff..not much sit in sag...I will have to get a manual to learn the suspension settings, and how to set it up properly (my first torsion spring yami..and it is different than the cat and doo set up)...wish I didn't have to work tonight...I'd be back out riding...this sled is a major up grade over my cat or my Attak. ...once I get the suspension dialed in...it will be awesome.

Bryan,

Glad you love your new used purchase. You may have to change the rear torsion springs. They are a bit stiff and they do make a softer set for it. Thanks!!!

Thanks Kip...I will see what she's set on first...maybe I can soften it a bit...if not...I mostly likely will pick a set of softer springs up from you...thanks again...love the sled..it's very nice.

Save your money the XTX is not plush like the GT EC mono that you are used too.....it is made for banging. I found the the biggest problem is the rebound kick which you can't do much about stock no rebound clicker but, imo, got worst the softer I made the settings. I understand what you are feeling but found the best ride came the harder I set the rear clicker.. I run rear competely hard or only back off 1 or 2 clicks go 225lbs geared. The center shock is about ski pressure so won't improve the ride. I use Bergstrom triple points with transfer on front ,1 bud with SE gets good carbide turning with studboy deuces the other bud on the same xtx as mine uses aggressive Snowtrackers with all transfer on rear and the STs work the best hands down of all 3 setups. IMO forget the springs & have shocks revalved tha is the conclusion I have come to in 1 year use. Fool with the clicker you might get lucky but XTX is a hard supension 1st designed for nytro XTX then brought over to Apex XTX. You can check out star supension claim to fame is progression thru the rear supension but settiings take all pressure off front end & I'm not comfortable with that but some peeps swear by it. PM or call me happy to help if I can.

Bryan try the harder setups first..... the cam block settings didn't do much for me left on hard although tried them all. The XTX does not progress well through travel so the TY reports are right on....those guys get deep into tech stuff but xtx is stiff by design. I finally put a 2 inch riser on then stand up for the extreme junk xtx handles that well & made to be banged. Talk to Kip about shock revalve not sure who he uses but that will help you the most. Last week I gently bottomed my XTX on the 8/15 pipeline ripping the whoops & the suspension woke up somehow that helped lessen kick. On smooth groomed trails or powpow the xtx does a fine job but for me I always ride bombed out unplowed Frs for trail connections & the xtx can take it just need to tune kick out as much as possible.

It may just be a matter of getting used to it...today there was some serious chop out there...and I put the hammer down...and zipped right through it...my Attak could never do that at the speed I was going (60 plus)...she stayed straight, and flat and totally in control...the stutters still pop me a bit...but I can roll right through the big stuff far better....the more I ride this..the more I like it...this motor is just awesome...it pulls so hard..and u can't beat that sound....love it

Agree.... exactly what I found to be different Attak GT to Apex XTX. You can pound the XTX at speed better than Attak... XTX wil track straight no problem also much better in the deep with tipped 144 ripsaw. The stutters is where you miss the mono EC I could hit the switch & find sweet spot with mono the XTX you just have to pick up the speed & pound the stutters not much else you can do.

Hello Gents,
With all due respect, I sit at home and ponder what all the need to monkey with suspension and steering is needed for? Is the sled so poorly designed that dialing in is taking more time than just going out and having a nice comfortable ride? I mean, this is not a race sled is it? I have bought a new sled each year since 2004 and when I receive my new sled each year it is 95% good to go out of the box. I am 6-4 300lbs (which I would think might mean suspension/steering changes for a big man that is a semi-aggressive rider) but I usually do not make changes. Sleds corner well and do not bottom-out, if they do bottom I just adjust the spring-rate on the trail in 1 minute.
No disrespect to the people on this site and yourself but why buy if it does not ride well. I do respect the Yamaha 4-stroke (I own a 2014 FZ-1 Yamaha cycle and have owned two others previous to that also and love the sum of all parts) but the Yamaha sleds seem to make great individual parts (the motor and clutch) but do not offer the owner a high value proposition of the sum of all parts that equals a super riding experience.

Respectfully, Frank

I am lenny....that cat took away 8 weeks of riding in the last 12 months...I know anything can break down...but yet I feel so much more confident that this one won't let me down or leave stranded...and that's a good feeling...nothing sucks worse than not being able to ride.

Frank....I dial in all of my sleds...I try to get them to ride exactly how I want them...it's not a yamaha problem...it's just me being a picky rider....why wouldn't u set your sled up to be the best that it can be?? Every rider is different. ..and that is why these suspensions have so much adjustibility....I have done it with every brand of sled I own...not just yamaha

Yea,...sorry.... i'm sure that red is the best color ever....let me know next month....LOL
