It is right now....cause I own it...lol

I think I offered a good luck wish to you last year when you bought that stupid Cat....you don't need that this time.
Have a great riding season.
You should make an appearance in Ishpaming next weekend, EH?;)

Hello Gents,
With all due respect, I sit at home and ponder what all the need to monkey with suspension and steering is needed for? Is the sled so poorly designed that dialing in is taking more time than just going out and having a nice comfortable ride? I mean, this is not a race sled is it? I have bought a new sled each year since 2004 and when I receive my new sled each year it is 95% good to go out of the box. I am 6-4 300lbs (which I would think might mean suspension/steering changes for a big man that is a semi-aggressive rider) but I usually do not make changes. Sleds corner well and do not bottom-out, if they do bottom I just adjust the spring-rate on the trail in 1 minute.
No disrespect to the people on this site and yourself but why buy if it does not ride well. I do respect the Yamaha 4-stroke (I own a 2014 FZ-1 Yamaha cycle and have owned two others previous to that also and love the sum of all parts) but the Yamaha sleds seem to make great individual parts (the motor and clutch) but do not offer the owner a high value proposition of the sum of all parts that equals a super riding experience.

Respectfully, Frank

Always takes me a year to fully understand a new sled owned all brands over the years never ride out of the box with no adjustments & I don't know anyone that does. Seems odd to me you don't change things up seek peak performance?

That would be cool...my mother lives near Lac du Flambeau...so I do get up there once in awhile....unfortunately...I am working the next couple of weekends....I was wondering what that star suspension was...heard some good things about it....don't know if I will need it or not...I am getting used to this sled now...and actually it's very good through the rough stuff...just different than the softer set-up sleds i have ridden the last 4 years (LXR, and Attak GT)

We are in Minocqua every weekend, Star moves the front shock position, and removes the stock transfer rods and puts in a swivel that makes it all transfer,

Pretty much hit the nail DEAD ON the head with this one!
I always wondered the same thing - if you have to work so hard to get it to handle, it either wasn't the sled for you, or very poorly designed.
Or in the case of the Poo Rush, a couple of clicks on the Walker Evans and ride impact is immediately felt.

The EC mono took me awhile to understand but once I did the tweaking from out box factory settings to what was best for me made night & day difference plus the Bergstroms & studs. The Apex XTX that is typical 2 shock suspension not difficult tp apply prior knowledge to setiings easy to get there quickly. The xtx transfer setting not like any other sled I know but HUGE difference in handling. Sounds like both you and Frank are both big guys 6-4 300 lbs not difficult to set up hard, hard & hard should work just fine.:) Trackside tells me when peeps come in say this new sled doo, poo, yam is POS doesnt ride well they ask what did you change?.....spend more time on adjustments customer now satisfied had no clue what to adjsut. M10 1 of the best rear suspensions that poo used was very weight sensitive miss the sweet spot & not so good. To me I luv adjustments allows me to get most from any sled and have my buds asking how can you ride like that thru that crap???..... I'm like what?.... seemed ok to me.lol :D

JEEZE...yeah thats it...Fusion...this is a different skid than I am used to...THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!!...I am trying to dial it in to my PERSONAL PREFERENCE....Don't any of you guys play with your suspension settings?? There is alot of adjustability to this skid....and I am trying to figure out what does what...and I never said it handled poorly..it in fact handles very well..much flatter than my attak did, and the power steering is awesome....it does push a bit in the corners...but that is due to the dually's (pretty common with dually carbides)..not the suspension

and BTW Fusion...one of the guys I ride with regularly has the new 2015 axys switchback (800)...he also is still playing with his suspension..to dial it in.

All I'm saying is, on my Apex and 2 Vectors I told the dealer my fully geared weight and asked them to set the center spring for me, a bit to the firm side. (And no I'm not 300 geared up)
After that I was able to adjust those sleds pretty much where I wanted them with the clickers alone. I can't stand wrenching on a sled after the skid is caked with ice and snow in 20 degree's.
But that's just me.
I had a bit of a problem with my Apex never feeling like the Ohlins was responding all that much to the electronic adjustments from the bar.
I tried the stiffer spring and that helped with the sag in, but I still didn't feel much out of the Ohlins.
That said, I never felt the change in suspension on the Yamaha's that I instananeously feel out of the Walker-Evans.
I usually go 1 click from my neutral point and that varies it enough hard or soft, depending on trail conditions. This takes 30-45 seconds - just the way I like it.
Full disclosure, I will say the Vector and Apex both planted the front end much better than the Rush which skates a bit in the corner, but with that 4-stroke motor over the ski's, that's understandable.
This Friday I'll see what the Triple Points do for the forward bite, as I'm still on stock carbides after just under 1000 miles.

Yeah...I had the Attak with the EC olin...it was rather soft...this XTX has the clicker rear shocks (torsion spring skid)...with alot more adjustability , and that's what I am trying to figure out...the triples are great..I'd like them on mine...but will be trying deucebars next

I must have got it right with my Attak GT EC Ohlin made a world of difference in the studders push the button & would smooth out match speed with EC mode ride was heaven sent but had both compression & rebound clickers. XTX much harder suspension needs rebound clicker, imo, only has compression clicker but does well just need to reduce kick & as said the hard settings produce less kick tightens the up the ride. Nice to have adjustments everyone is different bud has doo XP likes it set up like a brick but used to own race sled so his preference.....not mine got off that thing asap.lol

I have been watching this thread and see if I can have a few questions answered. A little background - owned an '06 attak. Loved the motor, hated the suspension in the rough stuff. Just didn't hold up (broke the W arm, many rebuilds on shocks), bottomed out often and with a bad back, sent it down the road. Debating getting out of sleddding completely, but rode a buddy of mines Nytro xtx in some really rough woops. Could not believe how that machine just sucked up the bumps. So I picked up a '12 xtx Nytro and overall, not a lick of issues, handles the woops just great, but in all honesty, really miss the motor of the Apex - that thing just pulls and pulls.

So I am on the fence - the Nytro is trouble free, 3 years left on the warantee and does everything pretty well (do about 10% of my riding off-trail). When it is rough, can stand up for miles and miles without any fatigue, which saves my back. I could not do that with the Apex. So if you throw that xtx skid in the Apex, does it fix the bottoming out issue and being able to run at a decent speed in the woops, or does it feel like it still "dives in" each hole rather than stay on top? How much difference does the EPS make? In my old attak, you felt the weight, but I am in overall pretty decent shape and never felt like i wanted to quit because my arms were tired. Can the Apex xtx do a little off roading without getting stuck all the time? I just really miss that motor. I have also thought about a turbo or supercharger, but as you add complexity, you decrease the reliability, and that is why I ride yamaha in the first place.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

SJB...I gotta say...this xtx is a far better machine than my old attak...like I said the rear is a bit stiff for my liking...but it works well through the rough stuff...I can ride at a far great speed, or pace on the xtx than I could on my attak..the eps works well...it really masks the weight of this machine...it really does feel alot lighter, and your arms do not get sore...I feel the xtx handles flatter than my attak did, and the riding position is better...plus the xtx has much better traction....I think the XTX would be perfect for you...it's the best of both worlds...the ride of a nytro with better handling, and more HP...go try one if you can.... so far..I really like mine...very happy

How is the riding position better - what changed between the attak and the xtx? They look the same to me.

The Xtx has a different seat that moves you up closer to the tank and a bit higher....it's a different seat on the 2011 and newer apexes...go sit on one.

And btw...I was riding with my buddy on his 2015 gsx 1200...and after playing around on the lake...he doesn't want to race...lol...you doo guys are full of chit. ..stk vs stk...that 1200 is pooch...it's not even close.

Good grief....isn't there a 25-30 hp difference between the two?
