My personal review on my Yamaha Apex XTX !!!

Well as I cleaned up and summarized my Yamaha yesterday I thought I should write a little review . First off I would like to say Im about as happy as I could possibly be when I think about making the switch from Polaris after 23 years. I am impressed as can be when it comes to the reliability part first and foremost. I absolutely love the power, handling with the EPS, the fuel mileage (15-19) and that is aggressive riding, the guages, controls etc. The only thing I would say I like better about the Poos was/is the way you sit on the seat is a little more comfortale , higher up. As far as the weight of the machine , on the trails it is unbelievably easy to maneuver, but if you want it for off trail its probably a little heavy, but actually with the 144 track, it still goes through a ton of snow.So I guess after 1 year of riding it I couldnt be happier. THANK YOU Yamaha for keeping on the trail and out of the shop , 6,746 trouble free miles. Everyone have a great and safe summer , OUT!!!!!

I was hoping we would hear from you with a comparo & I'm not surprised. :) I thought my Attak GT was easier to stand up on than Apex XTX... not sure why? I think raising the bars 1-2" will suit me just fine. I liked the 144 much better in the deep stuff too.

Nice to hear you had a good year! WOW! I ride an XTX too and agree completely with your review. Perfect for me and apparently you too. I'm curious, what carbides/skis are you using?

I'm pretty much sold now, just on 6746 trouble free engine miles , Been a Poo guy since I got into sledding, and can't think of 1 sled of the 5 I have had that has not had some sort of engine work b4 6000 or much sooner even ..

dfattack, using the stock skis with stock carbides, a 6in. and 4 in. on each ski. Still had originals on but were shot now. mspease , actually work 50-55 hours a week and only used 5 days vacation all winter, not too much bar time , except at the end of the day , of course, lol

Good review, Mspease said it perfectly for the sled fit. You rode some serious miles and with that being said I would automatically change some drive bearings and exhaust doughnuts before you get stuck out on the trail, it happens with these 4s sleds.

Congrats on great a season pwolfy!! Glad you loved the sled!
Sometimes it doesn't hurt to try something new, can always go back if it doesn't work out

Just curious, do the newer apexs with the EXUP still have the same wear out rate on the exhaust donuts?

how about FE bushings?

I'm not pointing out flaws, i'd rather do the donuts and bushings than a motor rebuild anyday...LOL...besides...bushings wear out on all sleds.

That makes it even more impressive! You are a dedicated rider, that's for sure. Just a great year for you! Let's have twenty in a row like this one! :)

Most of you crazies think I too never work, 11 trips this year, I usually work 42-48 hrs a week and used 1 vacation day all winter. Weekend Warriors :)

The EPS models go longer on the donuts, actually almost double the miles. Need to be looking at the donuts around the 9500 to 10,000 mile mark and if you're under warranty Yamaha will cover them. Hope this helps!

Boy...you guys are making it tough for me...lol.....I was about to write off the xtx, and almost had myself talked into trying a vector ltx....I'm gonna ride my cat one more season...but I will be up to visit Kip or Chad to hopefully test drive both of those models next winter (and possibly a viper ltx..not sure yet)...I know one thing...in the future I will be back on a four stroke..but which one?? Just don't know.

Apex XTX feels more heavy & is more heavy than Apex SE or Vector LTX. I logged good amount of miles on all 3 & if you don't want & need 162hp the Vector LTX with eps is the best sled for on trail but not so good in powder XTX better for that. Trade offs for weight,Hp & track length. You need to ride them all then a have an honest heart to heart with yourself then the choice is easy.:)

try the viper u won't feel the weight at all which is what i got tired of won't have the apex power but plenty fast and handling and cornering is way better it rides on rails

Viper has very different seating position from Apex or Vector. For me Viper bent my legs too far backward, steering was heavy & the Nytro front exhaust engine was very tame compared to Nytro rear exhaust. If Viper had eps & engine mapping gets some of the hp back it could be an interesting sled but totally different from Apex & Vector.

also have to say now being 3950 miles on it first season less weight have not had to replace slides and there not duponts and no donuts to deal with and carbides still good but they are bergstroms did first oil change at 800 miles and only put gas in it rest of year. this fall there will be new fuel remaps and i may put in a ulmer racing clutch kit which will wake it up

Sounds like you have a Viper? If so, what mileage are you getting out of it?
