Needle Bearing Help

Rebuilding a buddy's 01 DOO MXZ 700. Stupid cageless needle bearing is confusing, just wondering if there's any downside to getting a caged needle bearing? Skylar mentioned he tried to and couldn't get it to fit once. I found the specs for the needle bearing for it and it says its a 20x25x23 and i'm wondering if a 20x25x22.8 will work. I'm guessing bad gas, the intake side was scored after getting kwi* tri* gas!!!!!! just a loss of power on both sides 5 or so miles after filling up. comp. was 105/110 just wish doo made 2 ring pistons, seems they would last lots longer!

it has been some time but I thought the last 700 mxz I did I used a wiseco top end kit and it came with caged bearing but still a mono ring.I think the spi kit is also has caged I have had verry good luck with the spi stuff.no point going $$$oem$$$ on a 10yr old sled.

I did find a caged wiseco bearing for $16 a piece still not sure on what pistons he wants, we're lettin him decide

I will give you the caged number tomarrow.....I will be in my shop then. We always replace the ski doo bearings with caged. The non caged bearings are a pain for sure. Sounds like a cold sieze issue...have to let them ski doos warm up good. We just rebuilt two 700's in the past 2 weeks.

what do you mean you cant find ?lost on the bench for sure or may be in the crank case it is not like that crank dose not already have enough issues with out a bearing bouncing around

none went into the case, some might have fell in the belly pan under the motor but i'm not positive.

just me but I could not rest till eavery one was found only because if it was a 1 in a million chance 1 was in the case when I was working on it it would be in the case.working on a race sled last yr sp600 pipe was off and a small screw fell bounced off air box in to y pipe piston was mid stroke screw rolled over top of piston in to transfer port .all in super slow motion

I would be looking at the oil injection circuit. Intake side seizure can only be caused by lack of lubrication. If it ingested enough water to wash the cylinder, chances are it would have been running like crap.

If your changing bearing brands, make sure dimensionally, O.D X I.D. X Width they are identical or you will have problems. 23mm is not the same as 22.8mm. .2mm is .008" difference, that's a big variance in a bearing.

X2 for sure...check the front water jacket also...one time I had two needle bearing missing and got lucky enough that they were in the water jacket pocket...but no matter what I would find em for sure.

From someone who has been there, buy new ones. Use a magnet to check the bottom of the cases.

As for holding them, grease might work, but when you buy new cageless bearings they come inside a sleeve with a sleeve in them. Leave the inner sleeve in and push it out with the pin. I fought my jetski engine for hours until i just left the package together. Also, I don't if cageless would be better or not.

More bearings less load per bearing. run cooler and last longer.
Hunt in the socket drawer for one that fits to hold them in the rod.
