New Board Look

Well, as I am sure everyone has had a chance to notice, there is a slightly new look to the board. Early this morning, the board was upgraded to the latest version. All the features to the board were kept the same and the general layout was also duplicated as best as could be. Most of the changes are on the back-end of the program, but I hope the front end will continue to be as friendly to everyone to use as it was in the older version.

I would like to thank moderator Paul for handling EVERYTHING with the implementation of the new board. The only things I had to do were to OK the idea in the first place and then OK the timing of it. Paul did an awesome job of getting everything all set and thus creating a nearly invisible transition early this morning.

Hats off to Paul for this successful upgrade and for all of his behind the scenes work in making the board work!

A slightly new look?

My initial reaction: It is a very poorly designed great leap backward! At least in terms of the graphical user interface (GUI). Really genuinely el crappo for the visually impaired user. The substantive text is incredibly tiny, and greatly overwhelmed the much larger size of most of the "boilerplate"; 'tis also seriously wasteful of the screen real estate (excessive white space).

In addition, to further foil the visually impaired, the forum no longer respects the "Zoom Text" feature of the browser:

Instead of increasing the font size in response to the "Text Zoom" feature, it now yields the following:

Note that the thread titles are virtually unreadable.

Okay, now how do I get rid of the unwanted thumbnail here?

I had to look up "substantive"

I had no issues at home but the new graphics seem to further tax our already pathetically slow network here at work. I'm actually accomplishing work related things while I'm waiting for a page update. I guess that could be considered a thumbs up for the new install.

Even the forum menu at the top of the page is both illegible and unusable when the browser's "Text Zoom" feature is used:

I'm still trying to get use to the New look, which will eventually work out in time. I do notice a lull in the page load time as well as movement within the quick reply. I know it's not my system, so something has to be up with this latest up-date. Another thing, which is minor in detail, the smilies aren't as good looking as before.:(-Mezz:eek:

I don't suppose you happened to reset Indy's thread count, cause that would be a real upgrade!
Hey now! (Just figured I had to make my first post on the new formatted thread!) Seems a little slower than normal, is it just because of the new software? Will it get better? Or is it just my computer? I don't mind the looks of it... Smiley faces look wierd!

Totally agree with Nash. Computer crawls, the screen area is wasted, much harder to read and operate on a phone. we need the fluff outta here. the blue looks nice. Did everyone have to go through the password hassle. with the copy and paste? I had to reset 3 machines.

Not to complain, but on the screen where you view the various discussions (after you select misc or tech talk, etc.), now you can only see 4-5 threads at a time where you used to be able to see quite a few more. Makes it more difficult to figure out what threads are new and which ones have new posts.

Edit: I tried the view on a different computer, and it's better. So it might just be the settings on one of my computers.

Don't like change but I love this site, so I'll deal with it.
Funny how many things nowadays are touted as new and improved but rarely are.

It is new but most certainly not improved. What was wrong with what we had? I am for change, but John I hope you did not spend money on this one.

Im signed up on another forum that uses the same format, so Im familiar with this one. But I have to say that it is slower. (The other forum is really slow). And I can still remember how to post pics, I think.

I'm typically somewhat resistant to change so I'm trying to be fair and objective. Hopefully with time I'll get used to this new format, but so far I've noticed that it's definitely slower and doesn't seem to be as viewer friendly.

It doesn't seem slower to me. Come on people, what you have to wait a half second longer. Give it a few days to get use to it. Then if you don't like it, well I guess you're SOL! It's a FREE site that John has put out there for your enjoyment so enjoy it, Dammit!

SOL! - LOL!

First laugh of the day. I can honestly say that a day doesn't go by that I don't get a laugh out of something in the posts on this site. It IS a good thing.

As I mentioned yesterday the board seemed a little slower at work but at home it still pops on my ten year old 1.7 GHz Dell. It's still way faster than a lot of other sites.
