New Board Look

On a positive note, I was pleased to see (or almost see[SUP]1[/SUP] :) ) the new third row of icons in the message composition window for inserting and modifying tables, inserting horizontal lines, and for formatting superscripts and subscripts.

In the previous forum version, I was generally able to do superscripts and subscripts by using the MS Windows Character Map, but inserting horizontal lines was a challenge, and inserting/manipulating tables was even more of a nuisance. 'Tis nice to finally be able to do those functions directly in the message composition window.

However, I note that the whitespace issue strikes again in tables: The table rows are far too tall for the font used, and I have not found a way to adjust the row height, even using the table properties.

([SUP]1[/SUP] The icons are so faint as to be nearly invisible.)

Holy crap! What did he say??? Is that all in english?

now that I have used the new format I believe I liked the old setup better mailny because of graphics. The colors are very bland and light, seems sterile like a doctors office. As you can see my dpeth of usage is not too deep,,,,lol.

do we need all the space filler such as: what member they are, really who cares. do we need the jion date and post count behind every post? Do we need location shown on every post? just uses up space. what the heck is reply with quote? I who has a few posts has never used this? what is it? Just to much junk to deal with. lets clean it up please. speed has gotten better.

Reply with quote was on the other version also, I use it a lot, and I've been here awhile too.

I like it so far, not a huge change that I can tell, speed seems the same.

As some have said, with my aging eyes this new format is harder on the old eyes’. I like the old version better.

Heck after having difficulting regaining my access, I am just glad having the website. I feel honored to have John himself reset my password for me. Thanks John for the great website.

The board was upgraded to the latest version of the vbulletin software, just like any software, old versions become obsolute and no longer are supported by the software company. The version the board is at now is the latest one available, it was actually out last year when we did the original board upgraded but was just released so we didn't use it at the time.

This version appears to be a little bit of a hog, but does have several more features that the old version didn't, most are not turned on yet, not sure if they will be. Some that are available are intergration with facebook, and giving everyone the ability to change their own colors. I will look into this one and see what is involved to making it work. This may help everyone control there own colors and may also havec the ability to change the line spacing. We are also looking at adding the mobile add on that formamts the board for smartphones.

I haven't mentioned it before, but I have not had any "slow speed" or responsiveness issues with the new version.

It will be interesting to see what other new features might still be turned on. A mobile add-on that formats the board for smartphones? Oh yes, I'll go for that (as long as its visibility and white space issues aren't as bad as this)!

I see the new "Auto-Saved" notification pop up frequently in the lower corner of the message composition window; I wonder if that may be contributing to any perceived slow down?

A new feature suggestion:
An automatically generated dateline for entries in the Journal section, as we have for messages?

(This is the third week now with the new journal entry showing last week's date! :D )
You know I'm teasing ya, John!

There is now an option if you scroll down to the bottom of the board to select your style. Currently there is 2 options, the default and "Blue", you can now select either option. I will be adding more color options in the near future.

Hmm, not sure why but the blue does look better, thanks. Speed seems better today too.
Also its easier on my I eyes if I darken the screen a little bit.

If your tweaking Paul keep at it until we get back to what we had. Is there a reason for the change ? other than new version?

Just keeping current with the software, the old version will eventually no longer be supported. Releases and patches are only made for the newer version, so to stay current with threats from the internet it has to be upgraded. We don't want to get in a situation like we did with the last board software were there was no support and very difficult to update.
