No One Excited About JD Xmas Forecast?

thought you had WD's post on block GD?
I get it just looking for honest trail reports like all us.

If he starts a thread I can see the title but nothing else. If somebody else replies to one of his posts, I can see it but I try real hard not to look because my eyeballs start on fire.

Thanks for the reply 440_chazz!

While I did not watch the pre-storm media hype (kinda had our own snow situation going on up here!), from some of the posts on the board and FB I got the feeling that there might be some that were disappointed in the results.

I have no problems taking my lumps when I am wrong. I don't enjoy it, but will reap what I sow. One of my biggest fears is being grouped into all the other forecasts and then being called wrong when that was not really the case. Unfortunately, I think that when it comes to the media, the powers at the top do not care as much about accuracy as they do presentation. I think shelby369 is on the right track with his thinking.

Anyway, I appreciate your input and will also appreciate any other input. I am being 100% truthful when I say I want to make sure that my forecasts are taken for what they are and not others. For better or worse!

FWIW-Ireadthat...

I give up!!!!!

Try again.....I read and watch what the NWS weather folks are saying. They update their 4cast discussion 2X per day and their online forecasts often...sometimes every hour. Your's we see 1X per day and 1X for the weekend and that's fine.

It's almost comical what I read sometimes on the Fdiscussion. The "we blew it again" nuances. In the 5 years I've lived here we have exceeded their max. 4casted totals 1X...yes ONCE. Some times we get the minimum amount 4casted and sometimes we get less than the min. 4casted.

I think you JD are a true meteorologist vs. nowadays all these guys do is pick a model and 4cast from there. If you look at the 384 GFS it's predicting RAIN for many areas of Wisconsin in the coming 2 weeks! So there is MY fcast!!! LOL!!

Not to pick on you, but where does that statement emanate from? Below is a map of my snowfall forecast for the storm and right below it is what fell. A bit off in spots, especially SE MI and N. IN/OH, but most other areas seemed to get what was called for?

I guess I am just wondering why it would be thought that my forecast was no good, so I can better present the info and not cause confusion like this?

Very smooth :sneakiness:

Your maps were spot on as far as I'm concerned.

I would like you to be wrong when you don't predict snow so that we get a lot more snow.

I'm actually interested to see what happens this upcoming Wednesday/Wednesday night. You are more conservative this week. Accuweather calling for 10"!

I have turned many people on to you for accurate snow reports. We all appreciate how difficult it is to have accuracy with something that is nearly impossible to nail down 100%. I can't count the number of times people have said to me "wow that John Dee really is the most reliable snowcaster." That makes me smile not because I like to tell people "I told you so," but because now they can stop buggin me for the info!!! Keep up the great work my friend.

if we could get 3-4 of the white gold here in So. Mn, it would greatly inmprove the trails. the DNR panned the trail again this morning. any December riding here is a bonus.

Yes the last 2 weekend storms were like 40+ hour long events with no snow falling in intervals of sadness....Sat night around 7 pm the snow stopped and the radar didn't look good down here in far SE WI and I started to think the storm was out of moisture....yet a 1/2 hour later it started up again and continued on til 4am Sunday.
Having 12"+ down here is a sweet surprise.
Best thing about JD is that unlike the weather dudes down here , he doesn't think he has a thing to do with the weather, JD just predicts it.

I think it was because the storm came in two waves. It gave people time to clean up from round one and it wasn't that much snow that it got people thinking, wow this was a dud. Social media was in a tizzy at NWS Saturday morning...omg. I will be honest, when I woke up Saturday morning I was expecting to see 6 plus inches of fresh on the ground. That didn't happen. It wasn't until Sunday morning when it turned out the weather forecast did come to fruition. I ended up with 10 inches in 'Tosa. I think the weather forecast could have been better conveyed with two Winter Weather Advisories than a prolonged Winter Storm Warning.

Chaz summed it up perfectly. I was one that was quite disappointed with JD's and other forecasters forecast along with others I would assume, as I thought we were waking up Saturday morning to 8 plus. We only had 3-4. Then we got 5-6 Saturday evening and night. So he nailed it for my area.
One thing when a storm hits like this on a weekend with JD only doing forecasts Monday thru Friday he doesn't really have the luxury to tweak his forecast like the other forecasters can on the fly when circumstances change.
I mean 6-8 inches you're really splitting hairs. Not like we only got an inch.

Here is my amateur observation: Clippers never seem to drop as much snow as forecast. The real storms in the Midwest are the comma shaped lows that slowly cross over and suck gulf moisture up and then continue with the wrap around snow from the top of the comma.

I'll have some real time trail conditions on Tuesday night.... Venturenorth and I are going to ride some groomed trails & FRs from Phelps north see what is doable and up to our standards. Could be all day could be an hour and over just don't know until we do it. Don't get GD stirred up as if he needs it.lol

he needs prozac..never seen a guy go up and down so often..

Yep got 4 inches out of the 6-10 that was forecasted this weekend. I will once again say "I will believe it when I see it" Besides that is to far north for me...

did u figure out january yet?

Day after day week after week John is right more than he is wrong. For my area anyway. I like the hype associated with any snow event. I am in grocery retail and there is nothing like a big snow prediction to drive sales. Fear and panic are great motivaters. If the snow fails to materialize my sleds just get a little more cleaned up and ready to go. It's all good.

Yep, this is why I don't get too excited until I see the snow. We can only hope it changes again.
