That's just the point! Kids are kids. Every time they play ball in the yard, are you running out to give them a piece of your mind?

Or you could stay up day and night and wait for the sleds to pass and when they do, get all red in the face and scream "get off my lawn!". Lol it's the classic "old fart" move. Logic would say and I could be wrong but, don't put yourself in harms way?

And if I've lived there all my life, like many of these folks have? They didn't "put themselves in harm's way", and they should not be forced to move because some rude jackasses don't know how to respect their privacy.

As far as kids being kids, it's Tom_s' own kids who are tearing up his own yard. Big difference from trespassers doing it.

How many of you have raised boys to adulthood? Those who have realize that arguing with one is like being pecked to death by a duck. I raised two, even when you are right, they will never admit defeat. What they lack in useful, real world experience, they make up for with a relentless, never ending, energy to argue. :D

All I can say is wow!! Breaking out the spelling book on a few word's. I was feeling everone's opionion till the "spelling test" came back I haven't posted on this site much as you can see, but every once in a while I will read a thread. This one caught my eye, Those sledder's where being disrespectful I totally agree. Snojoe had his own thought's, I could relate to the snow bank jumping as a kid, and still today. I did'nt say driveway!! Snowbank, But if your having trouble reading a post with a few word's spelled wrong that's a little sad. We have all seen people doing stupid thing's before on sled's, wheeler's, and car's-truck's. But I really don't want to hear the " If I was able to stop those A holes I would have givin them my 2cent's." I want to read "Well I stopped these guy's for F-in off and this is what happened." For the record I have no idea who snojoe is.

Good night.

Sorry, but I don't need a spelling book to spell manner or behind. I just thought I would bust your balls about something other than your opinion because I was sure you were gonna' hear it. No biggie!

Why is it cute when frnash does it but when someone else does it's not? Haha.......lesson learned.

I've been reading these boards for a few years and this is, by far, the best post ever. I also raised two sons and this nailed it. Thanks for making my day.

Kind of reminds me of me.......
Do you remember then they were real young ? I had my daughters @ about 4yrs old asking " WHY " .... i had it coming at me in stereo .... those were the day's .... I was actually respected !!!!!!
I have figured out that what they have & I'm lacking.... IT is called " stamina ".......
I always want to win, but I think that I hate losing more than I like winning.... Thus would be my problem !
Hey, I have twin daughters that are young adults. We could get together and swap " stories ".
My son is 14 , still a work in progress.
My wife & I have been blessed with our kids.

I rarely ride the trails any more because of the head on potential. My temper is short and I will end up ruining my life by beating the person sensless who hits me head on.

Had some traspassers this past weekend. One of them hit a stump on my property and from the looks of all of the foot prints and other sled tracks and plastic pieces left behind they got what they deserved. Rode right past the no trespass sign. It is a pretty regular thing around here. I try not to confront any more. IT is pointless talking to these idiots. (Cant fix stupid)
Stupid comes at all ages.

Wow, with all these comments (From this post and others), it makes me think of a few things.

1. You are never going to get everyone to ride like YOU think they should
2. You are never going to get rid of all the disrespectful idoits
3. With the lack of snow in the midwest, it sounds like it is the "Wild Wild West" of snowmobiling in the UP this year

snojoe, You make an interesting point on the kid thing. I have been raising 4 kids and have a 19yr old as the oldest and a 7 yr old as the youngest, both boys, 2 middle girls. As the kids grow older they put into practice the things they have been taught. Teaching a child has 2 aspects. You teach them the principle that you want them to learn and you discipline them if they fail to follow the principle. I can understand you saying let kids be kids but at the same time kids are not prepared handle all situations because they have not yet been taught. Now, if a kids has taken the responsibility to operate a motor vehicle than they are subjecting a wide range of citizens to their specific activity and riding responsible is critical. I disagree with you strongly with you on the old fart, young kid mentality. Age is not the issue that allows anyone to act irresponsible. While you may see a kid or person jumping a bank and getting a thrill, the land owner may not see it that way and after all, does the land owner the legal right to determine what occurs on his private property. Believe it or not, it wasn't that long ago I didn't fully understand this and didn't care all that much about the other people. I had thought I am not hurting anything and the people should just lighten up but as I matured in this area later in life and behind most, I came to realize that the law is not a respecter of age. Landowners flat out have a right and the law will back them. Age is just as excuse to allow an irresponsible behavior to continue. The irresponsible act is one of the two things I described earlier: the parent either neglected to teach the kid in the specific area or neglected to discipline the kid when he failed to follow the instruction the parent taught. At what age would you suggest we stop tolerating irresponsibility?

While some get strongly angered by kids or adults acting irresponsible, often a simple respectful talk will go a long ways. I believe there are many people out there doing dumb thing while being oblivious to the actual act, and the same is true for the opposite.

So, while I understand your position, I cannot condone irresponsible behavior based on age. I am sure all riders know they will be able to ride like they want eventually but often cannot pass up a enticing bank and that is the urge we need to confront. Save it for a more opportune time. Take a few extra minutes and look around considering all those around you. It doesnt make a person an old fart to be courteous and respectful. I have a 19 year old son who has the utmost respectful for all people. It does take lack of concern and respect to violate others, age matters not. A willingness to consider others is a decision. No one is asking these guys to compromise the fun factor but rather get out of the local area and tear it up where no one could be offended. Does that seem reasonable?
