Thanks for your input to this thread and work into the trails ranlam! I ended up driving home a couple days ago from mass city because this gigantic mammoth storm called "goliath" was going to be pounding the area around home... Ya it worked out about as well as daddy Dave's nova he built called goliath, total bust. (Street outlaws reference, Google goliath crash) but anyways, the fiancée and I are heading back up tomorrow! Staying at Peppermill rentals in Rockland, and we got engaged up on Lake of the clouds last year on Jan 16th...so I would love to make it back there riding out of Rockland if at all possible! I know things may not be great on side trails, but as long as she doesn't have to water skip small ponds to get there, we can deal with some low snow areas. But last year we rode out of hurley, up 11(I think, it went thru ski resorts and turned into a road for miles that was amazing ) to lake of the clouds, into silver city, down to the hoop n holler and back to hurley. It was a flat out amazing day, but with where we are staying this year I am not familiar enough with the area or trails from Rockland to make it there. If there is any way you think we could make it there, and a suggested route I would love to hear it. Thanks again for everything you do!

We did that loop Dec 11 last year, up 11N from the ski resorts to the road was un groomed and only 1 or 2 sleds been through. It was AWESOME! Unfortunately I think 11N is closed this year?
Can anyone confirm or refute this?

69cruzr, I liked your goliath reference. I think you will be fine just take your time . We busted trail preparing for that storm that didn't hit so you will see the bad spots, just go around them.

Wasn't it the DNR that said the berm had to go?

Yep, said it depicted that there was 2 way traffic, and dangerous for avoidance issues. It also brought the overall base depth down because we had to plow so much.

A berm in the middle?
Yes, at one time it was 2 feet high 2 foot wide, there were walls on the outsides to it was pretty much like a bobsled course, just duct tape the throttle and bounce of the burms. Im sure someone has an old vintage picture of it.

Used to be fun back in 90s to ride the middle berm to LOC but oncoming riders got spooked. We were like take it easy no threat to you.lol

Many times it was rougher with the berm in the middle because all of the traffic was contained to a smaller width of trail. In a way it was safer because it kept riders on their side of the trail instead of coming around a corner on the wrong side.

No complaints with how it is groomed now, ranlam has been doing a damn good job I might add!

Anyone know if you can take trail 8 from Bessemer to Bergland yet without getting wet and muddy? Last week it was not recommended, so our group decided not to try, making it as far as Wakefield before we doubled back. Contemplating our trip for this weekend either come up and work with what you got up there or wait until next weekend and hope the lake effect and cold temps works wonders. John's forecast for next week sure looks nice and sounds like might get a little more snow later this week. Just wondering if we will be limited again staying in Bessemer if you cannot head further north into Porcupine mountains with wet spots in trail. Thanks in advance for info.

So how much lake effect fell in this area? Judging by cam for White Pine maybe 8-10"? I would imagine wet spots are starting to freeze up pretty good by now.

update: 1 good, 12 good, 101 good, 137 good, 11 top notch. There are still a few water/mud holes on 12 but we are getting rid of them. Silver City has good snow also. If we can just keep machines and drags held together!

I met ranlam at Konteka last week when I was up riding and he was working his tail off getting the trails into shape! He's doing a great job again this year! Thanks ranlam!!

102 is groomed by Bergland and I was talking to George at the Hoop and it's been groomed up to where there is some logging going on and that's it. That's a great trail, hopefully they will groom it all the way to 11 soon. We came down 11 from Silver City and took 102 and we were first over in at least a foot of fresh snow. That helped soften the bumps quite a bit.

Bergland needs to step it up ,ran into lots of angry people this weekend, they were ready to go home but told them to get to 1 and get up north by ontanagon and white pine and head up to lake of the clouds those trails are amazing, just don't take 102 but its worth the ride down 11 ,just head back the same way which sucks but its more enjoyable ,hope the other clubs start grooming as good as you guys thank you for all your hard work

Preface: Hats off to all clubs, volunteers and businesses that are making the effort to make our season then best that it can be. Didn't look good before xmas at all and now we can play!

How much of 102/11 is not groomed because of the logging or ? I was hoping to run the Lake G up to Bergland then 102/11 to LOTC then back through White Pine to LG. Rough trails are here in some areas due to the traffic so 5 miles of bad is bearable to hit really great trails.
