My kids asked me where I was going this weekend. I said, without a thought, a friend’s birthday ride in Hulbert. I was thinking at first that I didn’t get Brad a drink on his birthday and I am looking forward to doing that. Then I also remembered that 5 years ago the birth of the JD family and our first ride happened. In this pic is Me, Doug and family, Jim and Julie, Guy, Will, Bradzoo and the Muckster. Over the last 5 years there have been many new friends and many miles and so many good times. Miss some of the family like Em and Woody. Some new like Prop and Ibend that chime in here and there. And to all the ones that follow this thread and never chime in unless they need to talk to someone. And those of you that I finally met at the ride in like Skylar, Scottyking and the man himself John Dee. And then there is that special family member to me (thanks to JD) Kaboolie. To all my JD family I wish you a happy 5th Birthday. I will toast to you at 8 (est Kaboolie lol) at Shirlies in Hulbert.

OH SQUAT! You are so sweet! YES! This would be the anniversary of the birth of the first JD Family Ride - when I met you with Brad, Larry and Paul... OMG that was so much fun!

Larry and Paul kept falling off their sleds! Brad felt it necessary to white wash me every time we took off from a rest break.

That restaurant in front of the hotel where we ate the morning we were leaving... we laughed so much the rest of the place was laughing with us.

What a blessing it has been to find such a wonderful people!

I LOVE YOU GUYS!

OMG TOTALLY! I have the pictures of that trip on my portable hard drive... so I will have to go back and look at those pictures!!

Remember the lady at the Rainbow Lodge... I thought she was gonna slap him with his cold cheese! She was so crabby when she had a crowd!

So was it the first ride or the 2nd ride out there that I got the pine needles in my underwear!? I learned a lesson on that trip... NEVER PEE UNDER A PINE TREE!

OMG - remember Jim getting his big ol' mountain sled stuck on the little tiny hill!? THAT was funny! Running out of fuel...

SO MUCH FUN!

Squat....you forgot about me, lol.

I am going to be at one of these rides.....I am hoping like **** that I will have a new truck by year end, then I can haul my sled around.

Julie: How is the snow down in Prior and to the South and West? Are the trails in good shape? A friend and I were looking to head a little north of me but the trails are beat and I thought you got more snow then we did. Also, do you know where a person could park a truck & trailer for a day down in the area? I was thinking maybe Cantebury.

Have a great ride everyone.

Awwww, Squat, that's so sweet! We do have a special family here, though. If it wasn't for all the JD family members, I probably wouldn't be riding my sled. I can't remember if it was 3 or 4 years ago when I met everyone in Hulbert for the first time. I'll never forget that trip. I remember sitting in the lobby of the Taqh Hotel with BigVin, Squat, I think Guy was there (I can't remember who else) watching the Weather Channel and talking until 3 or 4 in the morning (this was after partying at Shirleys) . I think we all drove home in a winter storm warning that day on very little sleep. Ahhh, memories!

Well, I'm still sick. I have pretty much lost my voice and my throat has been killing me when I swallow. I am going on the 3rd day of this crap. I probably should go see a doctor, but I am stubborn. They probably will tell me I have laryngitis, take my money and send my on my way. I am still intending to leave for Hulbert tomorrow morning. I figure if I can show up to work, I can go on vacation! With any luck, I will wake up tomorrow morning and the sore throat will be gone and my voice will be back.

Scoop...had the same thing...about 2 wks ago. Lasted about 10-14 days for me. I lost my voice for three and the throat hurt like **** for about 3. Then it got a little better but was still sore for all those days. Mine throat was only sore on one side though. Just make sure you don't have strep.

I tried hot lemon/honey tea. I have heard lemon/honey water works well for the voice and throat.

Hey Nate! We have a park and ride right by our house in the Tractor Supply parking lot in Prior Lake. You can park there, the Holiday gas station is a block away and then you can head south on 13 to the state trails. They were out grooming the trails yesterday, but hadn't gotten to the ditch part of the trails yet - so they are a bit beat up.

Wilbur rode all day yesterday down in his area... Montgomery - said so far this season, he's put on over 800 miles on his sled from his house! Said the trails are UP quality... but the scenery is corn fields!

Right now the trails are GREAT! We are hoping get a family ride in Monday. Looking at trailering down a smidge south of us to ride with Willbur and Joni.

I have no idea where around Canterbury you can park...

Let me know if you need anything else!

Have fun everyone going to Hulbert. Family weekend for us this weekend. We'll be traveling to Milwaukee for our granddaughter's baptism. But, family weekend ends as soon as we get back in town Sunday night. Then it's back to planning more rides.

Guy - you crack me up.
