I guess poo complained enough to get the 850 to run standalone not in 800 class. They must know its gona run.

Made 170HP

Dont shoot the messenger

are we sure it was not doo who wanted there own class? I would put more money on that than anything else.

just saw attacs post . that was what I thought was going to happen like I said I would bet doo wanted there own class . poo has gotten ver good in the stock clutching dept grabbing Rory from cat has been paying off big in that dept for them

Im not surprised either. There will be a curve with the new 850s. it made bar none the most power, and over time will be figured out.

Also I don't know the track lengths. The poos runs were weird it ran a 9.75 then a 10.0. Lost almost 3 sled lengths doing nothing. It either had an outlier run in a really good lane or it went into some kind of limp mode on the second run. 3 sled lengths is big for making no changes.

I can say ill have money vs any stock poos who want to run this winter ;)

Also the thing that sticks out to me is all dealer prep sleds were slower than stock, even the yamacat. Odd ehh?

This can mean a few things thinking about it. Dealer tested clutch set-ups were to aggressive for the track. The track was likely crap especially by end of the day. A set-up that 'chicken sctraches' its was down the track would work in these likely low traction conditions

Clutch engagement, helix angles play much bigger factors under these conditions. The best clutch tuners can really shine.

I also think a longer track would really help, trying to see if they all ran same track lengths. Which if they didn't, it makes no sense why they don't.

Sounds like they ran a short track doo vs a 144 poo assault with cobra track. haha in poor conditions definitantly no surprise the poo wins. im actually surprised it was that close.

Not sure why they don't run all the same track lengths to give people a more apples to apples comparison. I know why poo choose the 144 as it always has outperformed there short tracks but why not have cat and doo at least run a 137?

If they are not all running the same track lengths this is a pretty meaningless demonstration.

How can they compare anything with different length tracks? The same goes for the lug height. This goes for no matter who's brand it is. Many things affected by track length. I for one have never put much GAS in the "Shoot Out" due to the variables such as this. It would fun to watch, but that's about it. I have always thought Poo has been real good with their clutching. And that goes way back to the mid 1970's cross/country racing, and stock sleds.

There was some dispute to start, wish 850 ran alone. If they would have done this, then we could see how the 800etec compared to the 850. especially same track lengths. The 800etec dominated this last year.....

You couldn't be more wrong.

here Is a quote directly from amsnow from 2015...

'That was the theme of the day at the AmSnow and Dynotech Research 25th annual New York Shootout in Woodgate, N.Y. in the thick of the Adirondack mountains. Just fractions of mph, horsepower and seconds separated the hottest new sleds. We tested nine new 2015 stock sleds on a fast track with abundant snow and perfect conditions. Extremely consistent acceleration runs were made by of all the stock sleds, and the corral of modified and lake race sleds from several aftermarket companies. Local dealers D&D Powersports, Fun Unlimited and CJ’s motorsports prepped the stock sleds and all used Stud Boy traction products. '

Spinning aint winning tracker, common you should know that!!

In Tracker's example, there were sleds with both studs and the one without. In your example, they all used studs, so we don't know for sure. I'm guessing the pros know what they are doing but I wonder if they have tried without studs ever or it's just something they've always done so they keep doing it?

He said they didn't use studs at previous shootouts. Which I posted was false all used studs. Anyone who has any clue about drag racing whats so ever uses studs. as mentioned when drag racing spinning aint winning.

Like I said earlier...I really don't care about drag racing....but it is fun to watch...I thought the 800's and 850's would beat the sidewinder/tcat in shorter distances...was surprised by the results...the only thing we really don't know is what kind of top end speed the 850 has...I do know that the longer the race goes...the more the odds stack in the sidewinders favor...similar to an apex...my buddy's 800 ski-doo (2016 etec renegade) will murder my apex out of the hole...3-4 sled lengths...if we race shorter distances he will win everytime...if we run 1/4 to 1/2 ...I can catch him and it's close...if we go over a half mile ...my apex just slowly pulls away from him...the longer the race...the further ahead I am.

"Spinning ain't winning"....is soooooo true....how many of us have beaten up on a higher horsepower sled, because of an inexperienced rider...or wasn't set up correctly....I have watched 250 plus hp turbos get spanked by lesser sleds...because they spun all the way down the track. (driver error, or poorly set up)

No doubt about it, the longer the race the better for any of the turbo sleds. With the chassis designs of today top end is not their thing. where as mach z's of old could do 120 out of the box, these new sleds even tho more power and lighter can barely get 110 way out there. On the grass the sidewinders were getting beat by 800's in 500ft. But 1/4 mile or longer is where they will shine.
