Just went down to the local credit union and paid for the right to own a home, OUCH!!!!! There went 3K+ out the window. That would have made a nice down payment on a new Switchback this spring, lol. Actually, the tax rate here in the Green Bay area, Bellevue in particular, is not too bad. I'm sure others pay a lot more than we do for a nine year old home in the other surrounding communities. Still it brings a tear to my eye when I think of what I would have used the $ for, lol.

Switch, thats pretty cheap as far as taxes go. I pay 5500 bucks on a 1928 built home. But oh it has character she says. To solidify erza's post, Milwaukee County pension scandal.

When they start sending you stuff from AARP, you start looking at stuff differently.
Heres a state by state site guide on taxes, income, property, retirement, etc, that I thought was pretty interesting. You can click on each state's profile. I always thought about retiring up north, but with the recent tax changes in Michigan, Tennessee is looking better and better these days.;)

The $3000 is a down payment on Illinois property taxes. Just like getting my concealed carry from Illinois I will have almost $600 wrapped up in it besides all the gun I want.

I'm at about $6,800. That's down from a high of $7,600 when the market was better. Still, the taxes never seem to drop the same percentage as the value does, and it only goes down if you appeal. A lot of people throwing numbers around here, but hard to really compare if you don't know the home value, so that $6,800 is on a home valued at $167,000 by the assessor. That works out to be 4.07% of the value. Pretty pricey.
