Just going to toss my two cents in... The forecasts for next week, pretty much all week are probably going to be all over the road for the next day or two, there is a split flow and that really tends to give the models fits. The latest is pretty good news for much of the Northwoods, but I would not get too giddy about that yet either!

Thanks for the update yesterday John! The storm for Christmas eve has caused my emotions to be on a roller coaster since the models are all over the place. The GFS from last nights run looks good for Eastern WI and the UP!!! However as you said, we are still too far out so I will try no to get too giddy.

Yuse Guys can blame it all on me.
I took the deck off the mower,... put the fresh batteries in, fired up, and pointed
the sleds towards their freedom door, got the garage in order for its Winter duties,
and polished up the nice chrome flap plate a Great friend gave me for a gift at the
ride-in 2 years ago and I am all set for Mother Nature to do her THING.
So "I AM THE ONE TO BLAME!"
You can get in line from 10am to 5pm CST "3 Kicks per person" now thru Easter,...
(OR 1st significant Yahoo-lets-go-riding-snow-event occurs)
$10 per Kick. (1st 10 bucks goes to Make-A-Wish, 2nd 10 bucks goes to Website Donation,.. 3rd for Dr. Bill)

HA!

2nd Thought,............

Move Along!,...........Nothing To See Here!

Praying your forecasts are for the better this week good buddy!
Now Pop some Popcorn and cuddle up to that family,... and watch
another viewing of "Frozen!" :)

Headed out to the Local Polaris Dealers Open House Christmas Party.
They Have Adult Beverages,... and enough people to do a "Snow Dance"!

Wow, it's all a bust! No pink anywhere. :(

Not to pick on you at all Mark. I am only writing this as I think your thoughts are probably shared by many and I just feel the need to explain a few things.

1st, the pink in last Wed-Thur's 5-10 forecast was for a very different time frame than today's 5-10 day. In fact, much of the snow that made up the pink in that forecast was to fall in the period yesterday through this coming Friday.

So many areas in the pink and dark blue have picked up 2-4" in the past 24-36 hours, with a few spots at 1" new. Many of those same areas look to see a general 3-5" fall later today through tomorrow. That would put totals in the 5-9" range. Add another 1-4" with the activity for later Fri and into Sat and the totals are then 6-13". Still as much as 6" shy of the 12" the pink represented in some spots, but not what I would call a total bust.

Again, I am not trying to get defensive or pick on your post AT ALL!. I will take my lumps! But just trying to point out that the 5-10 day forecast is for a 6 day period, not a single day like in the 1-4 day panels. And that the 5-10 day period also moves as we progress through time.

FWIW - John, I HOPE I speak for most here that you should NEVER feel the need to explain anything! What you give us by providing us this site gives you carte blanche. Heck, tell us a typhoon is coming and I'm good with it! :)

I think too many people take a forecast waaaaay too seriously, and pass over one key word in every forecast given: POSSIBLE

Thanks groomerdriver. It is always a disappointment to have the snow forecast go the wrong way (no more so than for me!) and one really needs to have some thick skin to be a weather forecaster, because...after all... we are trying to forecast the future and because of that, will be wrong from time to time.

I just sometimes get the feeling that the 5-10 day forecast can be misinterpreted. Sometimes most of the snow depicted in it is from a single storm, but other times it is from a series of snow events. The second half of last week's 5-10 day was a combination of at least 2 snow events, both of which still look to happen, just not as heartily as was once thought. So I just really was trying to clarify what the 5-10 day map shows, so folks would better understand and digest what it says.

I can also admit that I am a glass half full kind of person. Many of you all are too, so these posts I am making are not directed towards anyone in specific at all, just as a general point of information type thing for everyone.

So with all that said, I guess there is still the chance that no more snows fall at all this week and the forecast will be a total DUD!!! But's let's hope NOT, as the snows currently predicted would likely let most or all of the Northwoods be open for business and make areas currently in need of some freshening up in very good shape.

I also agree!,... I'm still recovering from Octobers Hail event! :)

John, You Never have to explain yourself!,.. But you should put some lotion on
that "thick skin" :)

Now If I ever find the guy who took that magic wand from the back of your truck,.....

You should never have to 'splain yourself here John. This is your website and a labor of love that you provide for us free of charge. It has become a part of my daily routine for many years now....and I'm sure that's true of many others as well. I'm as disappointed as anyone that the PINK didn't turn to YELLOW. :( But rarely have I ever seen so much mayhem and confusion in the various models. Even Tommy Skilling was sort of scratching his head one evening while trying to explain all the forecast possibilities. It is what it is and you do a thankless job trying to predict the future. I am quite appreciative, as are many others here. THINK SNOW!

I just look at what JD runs on a given day from models on a given day then come back as the week moves on to see how the models changed day to day & what JD forcasts for the current & near future. I don't get overly excited about any of it just wait & see. After an event I check to see what counties in northern WI get X amount of snow & check to see where the LES band laid down. To me keep it real & no disappointment we hardly ever get shut out no snowfall at all. It's all good imo.:)

Holy cow! I was down in Rice Lake shopping and come back to see this. The post before mine mentioned that Friday was a bust and I commented on that. I know you can't count on anything until a day or two out, and even then you never know. I shouldn't even look at the 10 day and I'm done commenting on the forecast.

Just to clarify one last time. My post was not directed at anyone in specific, nor was it meant to defend myself in any manner. It was done because of a fear I had about any misunderstanding about the 5-10 day map. I only wanted to further clarify what it represents, as many times in the past there have been comments on snow disappearing from the 5-10 day period when in fact it just rolled into the earlier time frame.

I will agree 100% that as things stand right now, this coming Friday's event is dramatically weaker than it looked last Friday. But things can still change with the details to it(there goes that darn glass half full thing again) and it looks like arcticgeorge got some good info on where to get a trailing arm for a 98 SRX! :).
