Polaris carb question

I,ve got an 06 600 fusion and its running a little rich. I was talking to my local dealer and he said they have been changing the jetting on those sleds. He is saying to go to a 400 main, 45 pilot and #3 pos. on the needle. I,m not a gear head, but I did check they factory specs and it seems like a big jump on the main. Has anybody heard of or done this? I just don't want to blow it up!! Thanks.

I think you should be safe if the sled is stock. You should check hardcoresledder.com. There is a lot of info on getting this sled dialed in. I just went down once size to 410 mains and left everything else alone. You could try jetting down a little at first until you feel you got it where you want it. Good luck.

x2....start with the 410 and go from there.

I have the same sled and I rejetted to a 400 main, I also change the pilot jet and the air pilot jet. Needle was in the same position. Made a big difference in terms of performance - very snappy, no more bog or loading up when idling. HOwever if I run regular gas and give it too much the DET light will blink. If I run premium it is fine. I am tempted to go up to a 410 to have a little margin when I run regular.

There is a guy that posts here named kraven. Has posted about Polaris setups. I would look him up.

OK, I found my receipt for the jets: I used a .9 air jet # 3131203, 400 main jet 3130141, and a 55 pilot jet 3130070. It was a huge improvement after running it for 2 years with the factory setup.

Jim-had any issues running in negative temps with this set up?

I was reading up on the 08 carb settings they have on the shift. The set up for 08 is just like what the dealer recommended in the first post and close to yours.
2006 Fusion 600HO 2008 Shift 600HO
3130142 Jet, Main, 420 3130141 Jet, Main, 400
3131256 Jet, Air, Pilot, .7 3131257 Jet, Air, Pilot, 1.0
3130069 Jet, Pilot, #50 3130068 Jet, Pilot, #45
3130769 Jet, Starter, 145 3130769 Jet, Starter, 145
3131216 Valve, Piston, 1.5N 3131206 Valve, Piston, Notched 2.0
3131438 Needle, Jet, J8-9DGN06-57 3131438 Needle, Jet, J8-9DGN06-57

It would be nice to hear from some 08 Shift riders if they are happy with this setting or if any fusion riders have this set up. Thanks

I don't recall any issues running in negative temps but I have not run a lot in negative temps and when I do I never opened it up as I already cold! I do know the colder it is the more crisp the throttle as one would expect and I don't remember the DET light coming on as long as I was running premium. Make sure you get the air box on right so the rubber boots seat properly aorund the carb inlets. I had a problem one year where I did not and the DET light was coming on way too often when ever I gave it more than 1/2 throttle. BTW, I don't have any starting issues with the setup I have. Typically starts on second pull when cold. Warm either first or second.

I am going to give your set up a shot. Did you do anything with the needle position or did you leave as is?

I did not change the needle position or the air screws, just the 3 jets. I did try dropping the needle one notch to make it richer when running regular but it was bog city. I am happy with the setup, just remember to run premium when you plan on running it hard. If it is a cruise trip with a few squirts no problem with regular

Thanks for the help! I think I'll give it a try, the dealer didn't say anything about the air pilot but I will ask him when I pick up my carb. boots. Thats what started this whole thing I noticed one corner of the boot was pealling back and then it was back fireing when I put it in reverse. Now I got a can of worms since I'm in there I want to do it all, and now I'm thinkin about reeds. The worse part of it all is I wont be able to see how it all comes together until mid Feb. when I can get back up north. Unless theres some kind of midwest merical and it actualy snows in IL.

Here is what I run in my 08 600HO. Alot of good use-full tech tips can be found on JS Powersports site in the 440/600 race sled tech page.
400 MJ
145 SJ
35 PJ
.9 PAJ
70 Durometer carb boots
Updated Carb adapters

You can call them ask for Nate, he is very helpful.
My sled was a gas-a-holic, it was jetted w/ 450MJ stock. A little different than your stock set up. There is another guy " likinit 2 " that is a big POO guy. Havent heard from him for a couple of moinths but when he told me years ago that I could drop MJ's 5 sizes ... I thought he was crazy. Turned out he was correct all along. They are way rich from the factory.
Watch your plugs & P wash.

Here , click on the 600RR/HO notes, may find some useful info.

I went with a 1.0 paj, 410 mains and 55 pilot jets, 3500 miles and no problems. Usually gets 14 mpg trail riding.

x2 on the 1.0 paj and 410 mains, 400 seems a little too lean, but 55 pilot jets? Thats WAY too rich... Doesn't your sled load up?

Since I have 410 mains and 50 PJ in there already I am going to change the PAJ to 1.0. I've been toying with 400 mains but the 410 give me less worries with the negative temps.

I called JS Powersports to confirm settings and they recommended 400 MJ, 35-40 PJ and .8 PAJ and a small adjustment on the fuel screws. Also said 410's are fine with this set up as well. Little more piece of mind in negative temps...at least for me.
