Portillos

Does anyone know if they are a franchise? I eat at them when I am in IL but have often thought that it would be a Gold mine on near the state line by the outlet malls

Portillo's is not a franchise, they are all owned by **** Portillo who at one time owned Browns Chicken.

Browns was not owned by the same person that owned Portillo's. They were brothers. See below.

The chain (Browns) was founded in 1964 as Brown and Portillo Inc. by John Brown and Frank Portillo in Chicago, Illinois. Brown's expanded to many locations throughout the United States in the 1970s, and also changed their name to simply "Brown's Chicken". In the 1980s, pasta was added to the menu and eventually the name of the company. In the 1990s, a traditional grill named "The Chicago Way" was added to all Brown's restaurants. The Chicago Way sells Vienna Beef hot dogs, hamburgers, and Italian beef sandwiches. After 2005, the company contracted their locations to exclusively within the Chicago metropolitan area.

Frank Portillo's daughter, Toni Portillo, is the current president of Brown's Chicken. **** Portillo, founder and owner of the Portillo's restaurant chain, is Frank Portillo's younger brother.

On December 30, 2009, Brown's Chicken & Pasta, Inc filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy

Portillo's is one of the things about Chicago that I miss the most. Had one down the street from where I worked and would go at least once a week. The dogs, burgers and cheese fries were the best.

something bout them o's places

Portillos... Fratello's both awesome food! We need one here in Ironwood, only one place has a Chicago dog up here and its the next town over. Yes they did find out who did the Brown's murders where all 7 employees were found shot to death. The main suspects downfall...Feds took DNA off of chicken dinners in the garbage,(also people talking) yeah he was hungry after all that killing. Senseless.

The Golden Coral is Joliets weight watchers how many people were over 350 and had oxygen tanks. It looks like a cow farm but the animals have clothes on.

It was sad, some people look like they got there in the morning and make a day of it. The food was bland and mostly dried out, that did not slow them down. Took the guys to Portillos and they enjoyed it. Portillos even has a chocolate cake shake if you want to indulge. I passed on that. I am currently studying their business model. I see some coin to be made using it. I wonder what the employee burn out rate is?

Just got home, first thing wife says, "I am making hot dogs and fries, is that alright?" In the nicest way I said, "thank you but I picked up something to eat on my way home". (I am hungry) lol.

The break came a few years ago when the former girlfriend of one of the two suspects FINALLY broke her silence. She knew about it from the beginning but allegedly was so scared of these two guys that she never told anyone. I think she originally provided an alibi for her boyfriend who was questioned after the murders. The cops left him alone. When she finally did talk, they used the DNA from the chicken to match it to her old boyfriend.

One really scary thing is that the two suspects lived a very normal life after the murders. I think one was married and had kids.

Long story short...I met one of the Portillo's son this past weekend at a bar. He and a buddy were planning their bachelor party and it involves renting a private jet and heading to South America. I am guessing that the hot dog, beef and burger business has been good to them!

Ten bucks for a skimpy beef, fries and a coke will do that for you! I admit, the food is good, but you can't get out of that place for under 8 bucks.
