Power valve help

Actually the shifter karts are running Honda CR 125 motors and yes they are slighty smaller but not by much, I run VES and so far no problems, however my valves did look like indys after 3k, they changed the formula so we'll see what happens

Anybody want a free gallon of ves gold? lol, I filled up my oil tank with it, it was almost empty, prolly only half full now. I guess i'll just burn it up, clean valves again and switch over to amsoil. I put on 2-3000 miles a year, I don't want to worry about cleaning valves mid-season just because i'm running this polaris ves oil junk.

test is rigged there's no way to do a legit test. My opinion, if it don't keep powervalves clean, it ain't a good oil.

There's a well respected engine builder / machine shop in Northern Wisc that I spoke with a while back.

Claims he can tell if someone has been using AMSOIL by all the journal surfaces turned blue do to the heat.

Take it for what it's worth....................................................................................

To me if it damages your engine, then it doesnt matter how clean your valves are. It was a test to show how the oil holds up to stress on the engine not how its cleaning the valves

I've been told this many times too, so I went with a synthetic-blend oil manufactured in the U.S. (MN) power valves are as clean as when I ran full-synthetic and less cost = more $$ for fuel to ride!

Regarding the condition, those were not cleaned, unless he liked to start it up and idle it around his yard all day. You got them clean enough. I've used a razor blade to get the thicker gunk off, never a wire brush. Carb cleaner, a scotch brite pad, and elbow grease (let em soak a little). just be careful and take your time.

check to see if they are starting to warp.

To take off that nut tha tholds the bellows in place, yes, put the blade in a vice (wrapped in a rag), get our your box end wrench and turn. I did snap one, then used a good ol channel locks on the washer portion that was left (then used the channel locks on the second one and it worked great). If your springs are rusty, they might snap.

Regarding the 3 types of blades, I didn't realize that the new stainless ones were just for the 800. Maybe check/confirm with a dealer (the SS ones are notched out on one side and weigh about 15 times more than my originals). I do have an 2003 800, and I replaced mine (one was warped pretty bad).

Regarding which way they go in, they only go in one way. There is an offset 'circle' on the shaft of the the blade and if you look at the exhaust port hole (this is getting kinda dirty!), you will notice that it's offset.

I run VES synthetic (gold, or whatever is their top line) and never had any problems.

Hope this helps.

Indy, weren't you using Arctic Blue oil in the 700?

2-3000 miles between valve cleanings on your Polaris may be a stretching it a bit, may want to check them earlier?

I was, but my 700 didn't have powervalves.

Kraven what oil do you run in your Poos, just wondering

I usually run the full synthetic POLARIS (mainly for the first 3 years in anticipation of warranty issues) and occasionally Ski-Doo full synthetic when they're out of Poo synthetic.

I'm not **** bent on Polaris oil (BTW Poo + ARCTIC made by the same oil company, met the rep in Yellowstone) as long as it's a QUALITY synthetic.

It cracks me up when people think that one brand is leaps and bounds better than the other.

We do a lot of 500+ mile backpack trips from Northern WI to Copper, and sometimes they don't always have the Poo synthetic at fuel stops.

I carry only 1 quart with me on my DRAGON, made a oil caddy, similar to the EDGE's, sits across from the secondary.

As far as the cleaning of the valves go, the engine itself more-so than the oil has a lot to do with how frequently the valves need to be cleaned.

Case in point, I owned both a 2001 EDGE-X 600, and a 2002 EDGE-X 800 at the same time, same trails, same Poo Synthetic.

At the end of the season, the 600 ex valves still looked good, while the 800 really needed to be cleaned mid-season.

We ride approx 1500 miles per season, but not this season, unfortunately.............................................

I'll take all the VES Gold oil I can get for free.

when cleaning the valves, also clean the pressure port. Check the bellows when you have them off to see if they hold a vacuum.
