3 PERMITS and a can of "pork and beans"..... ( Weezer )
team elkhorn my daughter and i are only 2nd year riders and we have it bad hope to have a trip to houghton by then any chance you tom & sue schinke?Greenbird, I see your in Racine, I buy my UP stickers at the Yamaha dealer in Twin Lakes WI. Call ahead though, they dont get them in till later in December, I think.
Also, I think I posted this last time this came up. Some of our friends we ride with, mentioned while we where planning snowmobile trips, that they preferred to stay in Wisconsin if possible to save a little money as everyone is a little tight budget wise. So we may not get UP stickers if its just the wife and I riding up there.

No going backward. I just don't want to see it going to the extreme like Ontario has. Pristine trails and no riders. I am sure it is a tough balancing act asto what is to much. I look at it as to what has happened to sled pricing. Public wants more and more. This makes sleds cost more, same as smoother and smooter trails, nice bridges, warming huts, signage, trail maps, etc. Heck Drummond Island has very clean porta potties at intersections on their trails.Just how much and what do we really need? Tough call to make everyone happy. My wife loves the porta potties and I could care less. This is the same thing I am hearing from friends I ride with that live in N Central Wisconsin. Now how many of these do you need before you go backward and collect less money.
Also for the one that blamed BUSH back on page 2 instead of the Chicago nightmare. Bush was also a big spending Lib.
Thank you Mr. B. sound like jacob may have an oppening for the IP trip I am on if you want to go. A 136x 1.5x15 track will do fine out there. Maybe rent for a day a RMK Pro for giggles and grins. Moms will pick us up in Grand Rapids. Revkev will be going and he lives over to your side.Well said, Bobcat Boy!
Porta potties? Who needs those with all the trees at each intersection??
Okay, you don't qualify. NEXT.You buying a 1.50 for my sled?
If you're going to do that, just make it a 2.00 with some scratchers. Let me know when you want me to bring my sled over so you can put it on.
I would agree and I, personally, don't see a need to ride in Vermont either so their not going to get my money. Now, I would pay the out of state trail permit to ride in the Black Hills. That is because it offers me something unique.
Don't give up the good stuff. You will also need a Canada fishing license to go with that fishing gear and the Mounties will look you up one side and down the other with that tactic. I always get the permit. I have had trails open while there and seem to always need the permit. It is a pain to trailer out each day to the "Good stuff" so permit gets me the trail to the gas station and motel and the trailer can sit all week at the motel. I ride way less trails in Canada, but don't need the ticket either. Fine is around $1000 last I heard. There are "loop holes" but more hassle to me than they are worth. I don't need tip ups hanging out of my Back pack to go run power lines.South Dakota is FREE they have a different way of supporting their Trails. It is an extra Sales Tax on Resident Sleds. They want to promote tourism.
I also have rode in Ontario many times and never bought their Trail Permit. Ther are many areas that do not have Trails and you can Bush ride without buying a expensive Trail permit, if you want to ride off Trail. If you want to ride a Trail to areas just have your Ice Fishing equipment on your Sled and you can use the Trails to get to the Bush Roads or Lakes.
If you like off Trail riding, Ontario has more areas to go than anywhere in the midwest. Bring your survival Gear you may need it.
Hope I didn't start anything with the Porta Potties, but Drummond Island has had them for years.Well, that about covers it. Dan - that's hilarious!
A porta potty would be nice...but now that I have my girl bibs with the flap? Well, it's just nice to not have to take off every dam layer to get to my bibs!
I'm all about pay to play...I use the trails, I'm willing to pay. I have no interest in making businesses pay nor local residents who don't sled. When this was first brought up months ago, I liked what the MSA had to say and like what they've done with their funds in the past and like what they have planned.
Generally speaking, we IL, WI, and MI folks ride where there's snow. C WI was lucky enough to have great snow last winter. The UP and Northwoods WI? not so much. We'll see how it all bounces out when the snow starts to fly. I'm guessing if there's awesome snowin da UP? No one's gonna give a rip about the extra $10 to play in beautiful snow - meaning the extra $10 isn't gonna be what keeps them away.
