I believe I saw on this website a "backer" you can put your MI out of state trail pass on and switch that sticker with backer between sleds.... I use two different sleds, 129 and a 137 at different times...can only be on one sled at a time and would like to switch sticker from one to other depending on the ride of day........

I've only been riding a few years now so I'm asking this question for clarification purposes not to give someone a hard time.

Are you legally allowed to buy one trail permit and switch it between sleds? I just picked up my 2nd sled and I assumed I needed to buy a permit for each sled?

In WI you are not allowed to switch the trail pass between sleds. I don't know what other states do, but I assume it's not OK to do in any state.

I don't know how any enforcement could match trail permits to sleds not purchased that way.....Put money down get permit.

In MI, the trail permit needs to be affixed to the SLED and not something mounted to the sled.

Registration sticker is different, you can use the plastic mounts for that.

If you choose to buy one permit and use it on multiple sleds, you forfeit your right to complain about the trails. You are only cheating the very clubs that are trying to maintain the trails for you. Whether you agree with the trail passes or not, the clubs need the money.

I am planning on buying one trail permit for each sled as the funds obviously go towards the support of a great cause (better trails). I assumed that was the case but wanted to confirm.

Legally, they are not transferable. This is a theft concern as well. You're better off getting a permit for each. There is a reason for the state issued permits revealing VOID once the permit is removed. Those that are printed on site do not, this style permit is easily removed (taken, stolen, pilferred) without VOID & many do get taken.-Mezz

I see shelbys point.... one guy can only ride one sled at at time..has to register all of them. IDK what I would do but understand why he would not want to buy another permit for just his use. Gray area but prolly would do the same thing....just don't forget to display.

here in PA< each sled is registered to its VIN number and sticker for each sled, and trail pass for each sled, just cause you have more than one sled, doesn't matter, as they say more you have more it cost you in the long run!
I have more than one sled and I find that having them registered, allows you to take others that don't, so they get used in a round about way and NOT just by me!
even when I travel out of state I normally take a extra sled and that too is sticker-ed and registered? sure it costs me more, but its all legal and well, snowmobling isn;'t a cheap sport by any means if you ask me ?
and getting more costly every yr!

I know sooo many guys refuse to put MI stickers on at all. They keep in wallet and I remind to put on but they don't want to mess up lines of their sleds. I'm like you got to be kidding I always see MI DNR looking for stickers. Their fav place on 3 by Military Hill...seen them there countless times.

Heat gun will remove the sticker when the season is over.

Permits go to funding our trails. You need to purchase one for each sled.

People will drop $12,000---$14,000 for sleds not to mention trucks, trailers, gear, lodging, food, gas and then go belly up for a $50 trail permit.

OK, before folks go ape crazy, let me clarify. I am a single guy with my family grown up and gone (except occasional weekend visits) I have 12 sled, 3 antique, 1 kids, the rest from 01-17..all WI registered, all WI trail permits (except antiques) the four newest sleds all get MI trail passes... I am a member of a WI club and financially donate to two others and have a son who is a volunteer groomer driver in the UP.....I invest FOUR figures of cash every year before a flake flies..... I am not CHEAP or trying to SCREW the man.....I ride 95% of my time in WI.

If I wake up one morning and get a bug up my azz to ride one of the older sleds from St. Germain to lake Gogebic for a burger and back while having four sleds sitting in the garage with MI trail permits, why cant one sled have a sticker on a backer that I could use to temporarily put on the older sled for the day trip??? WI and MI and the clubs I support make $$$$$ on me....
