Rail Extension Advice

I postEd earlier about extending my 2010 iq shift 600 from a 121" to 144". Beside extending the tunnel and rails as well as putting on the new track will I have to change the gearing? Sorry to hijack the thread, but I figured its kind of related.

I don't want to spend the $700 dollars on the tracks USA parts and then find out have to put in more time and cash to complete the project.

If you have any words of wisdom let it flow.

Thanks!

It'd be best to change the gearing, but that's easy and doesn't cost that much at all if you can find some used gears...

Why not just take the $700 and upgrade?? Find a shift 144?? That's what I'd do.

This was the thought I had when I was considering stretching my Fusion. By the time you buy the track, rail and tunnel extensions, etc., you still basically have a compromise of a sled. I see why people stretch their sleds, but I'm just going to keep mine at 121" and then buy a crossover when the time is right for the next sled.

Compromise..... maybe. But that's the tradeoff for a less expensive option. When I went from 144 to 155, I priced out buying something already at 155, and the sale price of my sled vs. the purchase price of the comparable sled was twice or more that of the cost of extending my existing sled. And, on top of it, I knew exactly what I had in my sled for the motor, etc, where jumping into a used sled was a crap shoot on what I would get. For me, it was worth the extension. But perhaps not for others.

if you have a DD cat and want long and short it is way ez to swap tracks.
on a dd cat I can swap from 141 to a 153 in less than a hr by my self.
on non DD sleds I have never done a skid track swap in less than 3 and it is harder to do by your self.
my last cat M i had a 141 skid 153 skid and a 162 just cuz it was cheep and 2 dd for gearing changes
sold most of the parts for more than I paid try that with a set of rail extensions
