Re-Introduce Yourself

I saw this on another site that I frequent and thought we could try it here.

With new people joining all the time I thought we could take a minute and share a little about ourselves.

My name is Jon and I live a little south of Marathon City,Wi with my lovely wife and 2 boys (almost 6 and 8 yrs. old). We will be married 10 years this September. I drive an off road haul truck in a rock quarry for a living. I have been on sleds my entire life. Started with Scorpions and now have been with Cats since '91, although I would still drive Scorpion if they still made them. I have been a club member my entire life and I am an area rep for our county snowmobile association. Have been visiting the U.P. since '88 and love it there, hope to at least have a weekend home/cabin some day. I don't ride enough these days, but hope that will change as the boys get a little older. I have had the pleasure to meet a bunch of great people from this site, and hope to meet more in the future. The Ride-In and fall trail work session are great for that. My wife and I volunteer some time at a local retreat center, which we get a great deal of satisfaction from, it is a wonderful place. I would recommend it to anyone looking to really get away from day to day worries and just find some peace fo a weekend. We enjoy camping in the summer, and especially in the fall. Also have some family on this site, hamburgchf is my dad and ACZR is my nephew.

I am also a strong defender of the people and volunteers that make our trails possible. I have a very hard time sitting back and listening to complaints about trails, grooming, etc. without saying something. Sometimes that gets me in a more heated topic than I would care to get.

There a ton of great people on this site. So if you are willing to share, tell us a little about you.

I work in maintenance on the Corporate Jets at Outagamie Regional Airport here in Appleton, Wisconsin and we fly pretty much anywhere in the world. Been with the same company for 20 years next month and my wife is a 4th grade school teacher. I've been riding snowmobiles off & on since bogie wheels and leaf springs. Took some time off for college and raising a family. (the first wife and divorce set me back a bit for snowmobiling) Got back into it about 15 years ago and ride mostly in Wisconsin with occasional trips into the UP on low snow years. My current machine is Ski Doo's 1200 4 Stroke and I pull it with a 2011 Tacoma.

During the summer months I enjoy a vegetable garden, nothing special just the basics, and my wife manages the flower gardens. I couldn't tell the difference between a dandelion and a daisy to save my life. We also have a boat on Lake Winnebago during the summer which fills a lot of our vacation time.

I've been a John Dee member since about 04 or 05, I can't remember exactly but it's been awhile. Whether you're a Lurker or a Poster, it's a good website, well managed by the Moderators and a friendly place to visit. I'm not sure how many know that if you click on the poster's name in the upper left corner it will bring up their Profile page that may offer some info on the poster.

Take care all, have a safe and fun summer!

Gary

I'm kinda private.

Saying you are kinda private while waving 7298 posts in front of us is like waving a red flag in front of a bull! It only invites us to write the profile for you!

Anyone care to help??

OK, I'll start................

My name is Bruce. I'm 59, soon to be 60..yippee, skippee on that.

Born in Fargo, raised in So. St. Paul, left MN in '85, lived in Chicago area twice, Philadelphia, and Orange County CA (right by the beach, pretty cool for a St. Paul kid). I've had a variety of wonderful corporate jobs in marketing, strategic planning, and market research. My career claim to fame is successfully bringing Orville Redenbacher's microwave popcorn from a brand with less than 50% market penetration in the late 80's to a $100M+ brand in over 90% of US households in 6 years. I leveraged that accomplishment into a nice career in market research and consulting, which lasted until Jan 2003.

On Sept 11, 2011, my world changed, as it did for a lot of people. I was living in the Chicago area, office in San Francisco, customer in Seattle with nationwide offices. When the Trade Centers came down, I could not get home, and for the first time in my life it really dawned on me that there may be more important things than accomplishment. Eighteen months later the house in Grayslake was sold, the job in San Francisco was gone, the sailboat was listed with a broker, and we bought a motel in Door County. This will be our tenth season.

By all standards I have led a charmed life. My parents worked hard to pay for my education, and I believe I have given them a good ROI. Several of America's large corporations also invested in me, and I believe they are all satisfied with the results. In my eyes, my career was nothing short of spectacular, and far exceeded anything I thought a kid from So. St. Paul could achieve.

I was raised in Minnesota in the 60's and 70's, which was a hotbed of liberalism in the US. My mother was Walter Mondale's secretary. To say I am a liberal is an understatement. I believe strongly in the American dream, as that dream has allowed me to have the life I now lead.

I sailed across the Atlantic in a 37 foot boat in 2005, did a passage to Bermuda in 2002, and crossed the Sea of Cortez in 2007. My next sailing goal is a trans Pacific crossing, which, due to the downturn in the economy, has been postponed because I am in the motel business longer than I planned to be!

I took up sledding in 2006, I have three sleds, and as a true left wing pinko socialist commie hippie type one is a (gasp!) 4-stroke. I sled in the Lake Gogebic-Keweenaw area. While I started going there because of the snow, I return because of the people.

I debate, but I don't argue. I like blues, jazz, good wine, and craft beers. I love to travel and meet people who become friends in far places (some of you are reading this post right now).

And that's me.

Ive been on the site since sometime 2001-2002 ish i belive. Although i dont really dont post alot i do read alot.
Name is Randy
36 years old
2 kids boy 6 1/2 and daughter 3 1/2
Current city is portage, grew up on Lake Wisconsin and the Dells
18 years as a electrician
2 years as a electricial contractor
With work up and down the last few years snowmobileing has been limited as well as 4 wheeling. Ive been told you'll have that
with haveing kids and the exspense that go with them. Ive done some a fair amount of work over the years as a contractor and found collecting money from other contractors/home owners is harder than doing the work. So i thought i would try the landlord houseing market,i bought a fixer upper over a year ago did more or less a complete remodel did all the work myself moved into that house then finished up the odds and ends my other house needed and rented it out. So far so good but found it can be a very upfront exspensive bussiness to be in. Its something i would like to do more of but cash is king for that bussiness LOL I also bowhunt as well as gun hunt,do some waterfowl/phesant hunting and fish when i can. When im not doing electricial/landlord things i landscape with my cousins landscape bussiness if he has work. Seems like im allways a busy person but not makeing a ton of money, but the freedom is worth it most days.
I was married 8 years and divorced for 5 now. Was really a set back in life finacially but made a come back with my great girlfriend of 5 years now, she has a 14 year old daughter so that makes for a interesting household most days LOL Some say im bitter now but goes with the territory of haveing all your stuff taken and getting stuck with all the debt of a divorce, i laugh and say i woulda been happy with a 50/50 split but doesnt work that way i guess LOL
