RIP Prince

I never quite understood Prince's popularity. I was pretty underwhelmed.

I did wonder where he got his costumes, were they hand-me-downs from (click →) Liberace? The only thing missing was the candelabra.

Didn't really pay much attention to Prince (was following Jerry and the boys in my VW bus 70's/80's early 90's)....... seeing all the Prince news as of late, Price was a very talented guy in his own right.....

I also hit many many shows in the mid 80s early 90s in a 76 doge tradesman 3 on the tree with a 318. always chuckled at u boys doing 20mph up the mountain passes.
also a bit more incognito in a dodge . those 80s were tough on a lot of guys with the fed 3 strikes deal did not need any more reason to get pulled over than necessary.

I would actually look at weather reports when traveling hoping for a tail wind....I could get 10mph more out of the bus on the freeway down wind....When Jerry died in 1995, I blew the bus up in a corn field at a party (closing a chapter) .........wish I had my bus today....

He was a very cool guy. Funny how the media (perhaps the record label) presented him in one way, but that was not the real him.

Just watched a great interview with him and Larry King. Worth watching if you have a spare 38 minutes to burn.

Thanks John,
The interview is interesting. He seems to be a self actualized individual at the time. That is a rare feat in music and entertainment. It is also much more rare in the world today.

The media is going to have another round on his pain drugs. It is sad. Those have killed a lot of people.

I was not always a huge fan of his music projects, but I loved his devotion to creating music. The music world would be dang boring if we did not have people creating.

Yeah, that's crazy you would have that much net worth and not have a trust or power of attorney to run things. Some poor lawyering for sure.
See today they appointed trust company to run it for six months.

This is cool, not the polished video productions we see today but that's part of what makes it cool.

I've seen the "Purple Rain" segment (all 13 minutes or so) released as a separate video, which in my opinion, was the best version ever recorded, and this was in 1983. The guy was crazy good on the guitar, not to mention all the other instruments he played.

He was so good that Eric Clapton was asked in an interview "How's it feel to be the best guitar player in the world?" He said "I don't know, ask Prince."
