Saving some jobs

I wonder if this really works ? Anybody out there ever try it ? USA USA

I want to ask each of you to consider doing the following when you are talking on the phone to any US customer service representative that is based in a foreign country (like India ). I have done this twice and it works! Any time you call an 800 number (for a credit card, banking, charter communications, health insurance, insurance, you name it) and you are transferred to a representative (like in India ), please consider doing the following:

After you connect and you realize that the customer service representative is not from the USA (you can always ask if you are not sure about the accent), please very politely (very politely - this is not about trashing other cultures) say, "I'd like to speak to a customer service representative in the United States of America ." The rep might suggest talking to his/her manager, but, again, politely say, "Thank you, but I'd like to speak to a customer service representative in the USA ." YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED to a rep in the USA . It only takes less than one minute to have your call re- directed to the USA . Tonight when I got redirected to a USA rep, I asked again to make sure - and yes, she was from Fort Lauderdale ..

Imagine if tomorrow, every US citizen who has to make such a call and then requests a US rep, imagine how that would ultimately impact the number of US jobs that would need to be created ASAP. Imagine what would happen if every US citizen insisted on talking to only US phone reps from this day on.
If I tell 10 people to consider this and you tell 10 people to consider doing this - see what I mean...it becomes an exercise in viral marketing 101.

Remember - the goal here is to restore jobs back here at home - not to be abrupt or rude to a foreign phone rep. If you agree, please tell 10 people you know and tell them to tell 10 people they know....etc...etc...

I did this once when talking to someone at Chase. I deposited a few checks in an ATM and then got a "sorry, technical error" message. When I called the 800 number, I couldn't understand anything. I became frustrated and asked for someone in the USA. They immediately transferred me. I was surprised they transferred me so quickly.

Spent an hour on the phone last night with Directv. I asked the guy if he was in India, he said, "No I am in the Phillipines". So then I got real technical with him and made some demands on what I want. I got transfered to an Alabama order taker, sweet gal. Got everything taken care of and then they had to have a 3rd party approval verification, back to India this time for that. I asked the guy if his name was "Peggy" he said, he heard that a few times today and verified my changes. 3 people, 1 hr. on the phone, and this is called progress? This was to add a HD DVR reciever and change some programming.

We are slowly waking up on this stuff...and as long as some remain stupid and take what is handed to us...we won't make much difference.

But if more and more do it...believe me....it will bring some changes. No corporation wants to be left out....got to try tho...cause it means big checks for the CEO..don't yah know!

United we stand. Diveded we fall

I see 2 way's this country can create jobs

1. the government taxes the stuff being imported to a point that these company's make it here in the U.S because its cheaper
2. We the people be willing to pay more for items knowing it may keep a neighbor or friend working a job for a decent wage.

I honestlly dont see either of the 2 happening anytime soon so our jobs will continue to leave this country in the name of profits/cheap labor/and less pollution restrictions.

#1 will never happen. Tariffs just result in increased prices.

Sound like a good start to me!

I agree, have to start somewhere. I just went thru this several months ago and have continued to ask for a USA customer service agent. The first was with ALLY financial institution and the 2nd was with direct TV. Both located in the Phillipines. As far as ALLY is concerned they don't list a number that you can call in America, the letter head is from Bloomfield MN but when you get transferred to a CS rep they are located in Oklahoma. They will not give you a # to call to follow up with the same person in the US you have to call the Phillipines and keep asking for an American . ( ???? ) IF you notice, Insurance companies all have their calls in the US. No outsourced CS with them, they are in fear of loosing customers and don't want to take the chance.

The only way jobs will come back to the U.S. is when the Government, Insurance Co.'s (Health, Workmen's Comp, Liability, etc.) and wage requirements of "seasoned" American Employees, make it financially possible. For those who don't own a company, a $25/hr worker actually costs the company $40hr.-$45/hr. Thats for a small business with about 15-18 employees. Americans working out of there car with no insurance, office, etc., are more of a threat than foreigners.

I have been doing this for a few years. When calling customer service and I get someone who identifies themselves as Jim/Steve/Heather or whoever, and I cannot understand them due to the HEAVY accent, I tell them I live in Amercia and want to speak to an American. Works for me.

Until one of these days they send your call to someone in Mexico, perhaps.

Hint: Mexico is in America too (North America) along with the US and Canada; the citizens of all three are "Americans", as are citizens of Central and South America.

Maybe we should really be a bit more specific! :)

Posted on my Facebook page. Hopefully it will get passed along. Called Dell last week and was completely frustrated. I had to ask the guy to repeat himself at least 10 times.
