Sea and Snow Oil

I have a 2010 Ski-Doo 600 Etec and was looking for input on using Sea And Snow(Citgo now Mystik) oil in it. Right now I am using the Ski-Doo blend in this sled,a 2002 MXZ 600,and a 2002 XC 500 SP. Needless to say I am using a lot of oil in 3 sleds that have a least 1000 miles each this year.

Looking for less expensive options...
Your inputs and thoughts would be appreciated!

I would run it in everything but the etec. I have heard people using it in it but for the little oil its suppose to use it will not cost much more. I do use sea and snow in my 800r.

Works good. Go ahead and use it. Been miles of discussions on this topic.

Is the Mystik a synthetic or semi-synthetic blend? And does it make a difference if you use a semi-synthetic oil if you have been using a synthetic blend?

Ok, you buy a $9000 sled that only burns a gallon every 1200-1300 miles, Why buy cheaper oil?? Good oil and quality fuel are the most important things you will ever put in your sled. Buy ski-doo or Amzoil intercepter. I have over 20,000 miles on last 4 sleds using Amzoil with ZERO oil related failures. Amzoil=$39 per gallon / 1200 miles=.033 cents per mile!

For the last time, maybe, just because an oil is cheaper, does not make it a cheap oil.

Between me and the guys I ride with, well over 35,000 miles, with no failures, using the SandS.

Just my experience, I "experimented" with an oil my buddy suggested, Synergy TCW3 Two stroke oil to save some money. It took the Yamaha dealer until March to get a new crank after a crank bearing siezed 230 miles after I switched oils. Not saying cheaper priced oils are bad, I just learned the hard way that not running a proven oil can be VERY expensive.

So If citgo was $50 a gal or more that would make amzoil the cheap oil. I get it now the more $$$$$$$ makes the oil the best. I will go with 3 pages and 3 posts on the 4th

If the oil meets the specs thats all that needs to be said, todays cars cost alot more than a sled and people still us $2 a quart oil with out any problems. Why are sleds any different. our ford fusion now says change oil every 7500 miles and with 8 of them in our fleet thats what were doing and no problems. Let the people who want to pay the high price of oil pay it and those who want the same protection for half that spend more on other things

You ran TCW3 oil which should have been NON TCW3 oil and it was the cheap oil that made the bearing go out.

can some one tell me where skidoo, polaris or cats refinery is? not sure if Amsoil has one but i have seen the main plant and i believe they just add additives to the oil the get SHIPPED to them........cat oil is mixed by a company here in mn called lube tec......lube tec says all the oils are the same till additives are added........sea and snow for now on 17$a gal

my M8 uses a qurt to a full tank so it is a little spendy to run cat oil.....52$ for a gal.....u do the math with today's gas prices....crazy!!!!oh i ran Amsoil at one time too...till it failed....long story

x2, I experimented with sea and snow and less than 500 miles later there goes my crank bearing. compression was 120 both sides before switching oils.

LOL, what does compression have to do with a crank bearing?

Where are your pics from your trip?

compression went down. The crank bearing was shot, making the piston go up and down not as smoothly. went down to 95 btw. The skirt was about to break off on the pto piston. No pics :( other than a few of me on my sled, and my family together. Darn camera don't wanna open in the cold! I might just take a few pics of the trails on my way to school or way home tomorrow to show how great the trails are ;) My mom was asking me when I wanted to go up again just 15 minutes ago, because I said I wanted to go to Hurley lol! We'll get another $40 per night hotel (my mom and her coupons...) :D Hopefully the sled stays running, or else I might hafta switch oils again :)

and you had that sled from new and know about all of its maintnance history and can guarntee the speedo was never left unhooked for a season or 2 or that the oil pump had never had a failer or sled was never overheated and the clutches were balanced at lest every 2k mi did not think so.

I put 6000 of the 8000 miles on it. I never spent a stinkin penny on it it's whole life. Clutch was probably in rough shape, but a little motor like that shouldn't be throwing crank bearings.

Not much.

I, too, lost a crank bearing at one time. But it was caused (a year after the fact) by a shredded belt, NOT the oil (Legend at the time of failure).

3 sleds, probably around 16,000 miles, a variety of oils -- Doo mineral, Doo semi-syn, Doo full syn, Spectro, Klotz, Amsoil, Sea & Snow -- the only failure was the aforementioned non-oil related crank bearing failure.

As Jay pointed out TCW3-rated oils (at least, in all three sleds I've owned) are not the proper oils.
