Just some ramblings due to spare time here since we are all pretty much being told to not go to the office, work remotely, stay home, social distance, etc.
So, here in urban Northern Illinois there is a massive run on bottled water. People are filling shopping carts with it to the point they can barely push the cart. Stores are now limiting mass purchases.
With this and other panic buying, things got so out of hand that a Woodmans (you know that nice Wisconsin-based store that is known for being open 24 hours a day), had to completely shut down here about 9 pm Thursday night and didn't open until 5 am Friday, for cleanup and restocking!! Yeah, social distancing, yet folks would stand in a two hour long line to buy stuff they really don't need.
Then, all these geniuses take this home to their suburban house with their 2 1/2 kids, shaggy dog, on a quarter acre lot, that is HOOKED UP TO A MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY system. They pay $4 bucks for a case of water that contains about 2 gallons, or about $12 bucks for a thousand gallons delivered through the faucet.
Their logic is they need this water in case of emergency. So, how many people on here have ever filled a bathtub with water when a major storm is coming, in case the power goes out? That is about a hundred gallons of perfectly good water available for use. I know i have (disclaimer - i do have a private well).
I know we don't really all need a bug-out bag, but come on already. Seems like we needed to send more folks through the Boy Scouts (something to do with the be-prepared motto).
Ramblings over - going now to check on the supply of dehydrated food and condensed water that has been stored in the bunker since the 1950's
