Just some ramblings due to spare time here since we are all pretty much being told to not go to the office, work remotely, stay home, social distance, etc.

So, here in urban Northern Illinois there is a massive run on bottled water. People are filling shopping carts with it to the point they can barely push the cart. Stores are now limiting mass purchases.

With this and other panic buying, things got so out of hand that a Woodmans (you know that nice Wisconsin-based store that is known for being open 24 hours a day), had to completely shut down here about 9 pm Thursday night and didn't open until 5 am Friday, for cleanup and restocking!! Yeah, social distancing, yet folks would stand in a two hour long line to buy stuff they really don't need.

Then, all these geniuses take this home to their suburban house with their 2 1/2 kids, shaggy dog, on a quarter acre lot, that is HOOKED UP TO A MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY system. They pay $4 bucks for a case of water that contains about 2 gallons, or about $12 bucks for a thousand gallons delivered through the faucet.

Their logic is they need this water in case of emergency. So, how many people on here have ever filled a bathtub with water when a major storm is coming, in case the power goes out? That is about a hundred gallons of perfectly good water available for use. I know i have (disclaimer - i do have a private well).

I know we don't really all need a bug-out bag, but come on already. Seems like we needed to send more folks through the Boy Scouts (something to do with the be-prepared motto).

Ramblings over - going now to check on the supply of dehydrated food and condensed water that has been stored in the bunker since the 1950's

I had to go to Wally world to get some snacks for lunch out west. It was unbelievable the amount of people and the how they were hoarding. They were grabbing everything.

Funny how everybody was commenting about the crazy people, but they were blind to the fact that they were there too.

You know if I knew anything about stocks, I would think now is the time to buy in!?

Now IS an Excellent time to Buy! We're in the market long term so we'll ride it out. It'll come back, it always does.

I was there too, we're running low on dog food. Nothing but bare shelves. Guess the dog will be sitting at the table with the rest of us. Hope she likes meatloaf!

Not only water. What about those hoarding toilet paper. It's important to be informed, but not to panic.

I was at the same Woodman's this afternoon, and there was a police officer on duty at the checkouts because a fist fight broke out yesterday over someone cutting in line. I can't imagine the social breakdown it the s.h.t.f. Some people need to get a grip.

If you need rolled emergency supplies, duct tape is the way to go. Anyone that has been faced with a true emergency knows that you can substitute a sock for toilet paper. This is why I always wear three socks, I never want to walk around wearing one sock, because everyone will know what I had to do.

Common sense??? that has gone out the window years ago when we stopped educating it, in todays world the focus on common sense has dwindled almost to none, I have said it once before that I was glad I was brought up when I was and how I was. Could you imagine if we had a more real or dire crisis on our hands? how society would react? some of society obviously has no perception of how to deal with crisis other than pure and udder selfishness, sickening. Tried going grocery shopping for weekly groceries, not "Armageddon preparedness" and we really couldn't, simple every day things...wiped out, REALLY? read on previous post police officers on hand at grocer because fist fight broke out. Is this really what its coming to, how we act and react? Ive got news for people its a flu virus!!, then you have people complaining about treatment and waits at air ports, HAVE YOU WATCHED THE NEWS??? come on people!! if you still choose to travel, that's your problem, sorry but that's a choice you made...DEAL WITH IT! How would I feel if I get it??? chances are we may all get it, but I will practice "Common sense" to protect my self and others, I wont over react, if I get sick I will stay home, if it kills me... that's a chance we all take every day when we wake up and walk out that door, is what it is. But act like its the end of the world??? NO! its a flu virus! and how many do we deal with day after day, year after year, come on people!

I don't think she's ate the bottom yet. I'm still holding puts ( this means if the stock or ETF I'm in losses money I make money) in McDonald's, Wendy's, and Yum brands. As the nation starts to shut down all but drive through even these companies will lose more value. Add to that Visa, MasterCard, Discover. Think of how many times a day people swipe plastic. Bars on weekends. Sit down restaurants. Is it a good time to buy yes, but there is the ugly possibility of this fiasco sending this country into a recession. If that happens the market could drop another 10-20% before it hits the bottom. This is just a very unpredictable situation.
