Info on this new mill is less than impressive so far. Doo is working to correct a high temp clutch belt blowing issue and the latest issue of a world famous sled mags comparo shows the Doo 850, '17 Cat 800 and '17 Yamacat turbo sleds all getting about the same pathetically low 10.5 mpg in the same day identically run conditions. Polaris impressively turned in a 30% better mpg result....oh my!

Ski-Doo recently announced several driveline changes for their 2018 models. Changes to these 2018 models include;
* Finned fixed pDrive sheave – (improved heat dissipation and cooling)
* Revised CVT Calibration – (improved belt traction, less heat generation)
* New drive belt – (longer lasting, better heat resistance)
* New gearing (Summit and Freeride only) – (improved performance, better efficiency)
* Revised PTO and MAG engine mounts – (reduce engine movement, improved alignment)
* Better cooling in CVT compartment – (reduced clutch and belt temperatures)
* New Clutch cover and improved air flow – (reduced clutch and belt temperatures)

These changes should result in the drive belt operating temperatures dropping between 15 – 40 degrees C (27-72 degrees F).

2017 Real World MPG=
Arctic Cat XF 8000 Cross country - 10.85
Arctic Cat Thundercat - 10.38
Polaris 800 Rush XCR - 11.49
Polaris 800 Switchback Assault 144 - 13.48
Ski-Doo MXZ X 850 - 11.58
Ski-Doo Renegade X 850 - 10.65
Yamaha Sidewinder L-TX LE - 10.26

So you have never seen updates to a first year model, I would bet even your poo had some slight changes after year one. Lord knows they have been updating your ever loves apex for the last 10 years!

Seems like a lot of 850s out there. Perhaps 1fujifilm can add to this?

Goodwin came out with a 12 dollar washer fix to th engine mounts that take less than 15 min to install. I drilled my plastic clutch cover for better venting and removed all the accoustic foam, altho for trail riding i dont think its necessary. Clutches always ran cool even after mulitple long WO pulls. My belt is original. Either way good they fixed for 2018. Miles per gallon i could care less about but always seemed good. This is a ferrari, let her eat. Overall 1st year sled couldnt be happier. All in our group loved them and our dealer sold 54 units and never had one come back. Said its best first year sled he has seen for reliablility. Over all as much as the OP hates it the 850 was a huge success and has once again set the bar for modern sledding.

One burned down to the ground in early Feb in Mohawk, didn't hear if they figured out what cause was. Talked to another guy with a new one, under 500 miles hundred miles, no issues.

I sincerely want all the new stuff to succeed. Hearing about a new motor failing doesn't make me happy. I love the machines, all colors. Polaris 800 ho hanging together should be a positive in All camps, just like the seamless turbo on the Yamaha 1050 and just like the new Cat ctec 8.

Gosh u dont have a clue. Id bet my life and savings account the failure rate on a 800 ho is more than a 800etec let alone the 850.

Looks like SnoWest likes the new 850??? Now what???

I dont kno how, probably brp paid most money. MPG must be big concern for snowest .

Everyone knows when the 800 or 850 etec are pushed hard they will use fuel. Like its something new to snoman.

I'm way more inclined to believe a mpg report from a sled mag than BS on the interweb....LOL...the one I listed is in latest Amsnow.... sleds had a minimum of 500 miles.

Thanks for the link....trail ready

Yea, alot a insecure guys will only buy what their buddies have and say is best... it gives them cover for their BS when they throw in the "all my buddies" line....LOL...for example, and I'm paraphrasing from what I've read on the interweb since the etec hit the snow....something like "me all my buddies get 18-20 mpg and we beat everything on the lake while doing it"....LOL
