sled hesitating

I have an 03 ZL 550 (liquid) and once it is warmed up and i have been riding for about 15-20 minutes, when i slow down to a stop then start going again, right at 4500 rpms it acts like it is running on 1 cylinder and hesitates. But give it more gas and it will overcome the small hesitation and continue to run like normal. Every time i start off again it will do the same thing. Any thoughts on what it could be?

EFI or carbs? My 96 580 EFI did that all the time just would bog double pump flipper & go. Hated that sled & burned down 1st 1000 miles made me hate it ever more.lol. If you have carbs clean jets Indy knows how & can help you. Clutch issues can make you bog too but sounds like you think running only on 1 cylinder. Try running Sea Foam might clean out some gunk & easy. Do easy stuff 1st. Let us know.

its a carb, and ill probably buy some sea foam today and run a tank through and see if it goes away, if not ill pull the carbs

Stator was sudden death for me. Putting on spare belt good idea at least you will know if changes & easy to do.

Have you tried disconnecting the TSS (Throttle Safety Switch)? That era of sleds is notorious for that going bad.

yea it has a brand new belt on it, and i broke it in already. i rode it again for about 20 minutes today and it wasnt hesitating at all and i put a bit of sea foam in it but i dont think it was ran enough to get sea foam to the engine

Oh yea that Sea Foam gets there quick. It will be interesting to see what happens with no Sea Foam. If comes back with no Sea Foam change gas filter & clean carbs.

That sounds like a clutch issue to me I would check the rollers and the arms in the primary see if everything looks good. You may also want to pull the belt and run it at 4500 and see if runs good with no laod on it
Good luck

How many miles on the sled? I suspect a sticky roller or worn parts in the drive clutch. Although this is just a small bore sled the clutches of that era were not that great. When was the last time the clutch was cleaned or adjusted? If it runs OK at other rpms it probably isn't fuel. A stator will just puke and you will be done. Usually. I also had a coil go bad on a 2001 Artctic. This was intermittent and was a real bear to figure out. However if you have it pinpointed down to one specific rpm and you have a new belt the drive clutch is your next logical suspect.

Pilot jets could be plugged. I had the same issue last week. 4500 - 7000 rpm had a bog. Idle and wide open were fine. I pulled the carbs and had crap in the pilot jets. Cleaned them and it runs strong all the way through.

the sled has 6600 miles on it and in the fall i put new primary spring in it. the weird part is that it is only boggy after at least 25 minutes of riding, after i put sea foam in it it still bogged but not right away just after i rode for 25 minutes

Maybe it could be the spring causing the problem????? A spring can loose its temper when heated maybe it would be worth throwing the old one back on and see if it changes anything

i took the belt off and it didnt hesitate at all, then i put the belt back on and ran it on the stand, and again it didnt hesitate. now it makes it seem like clutching
