Snocross, Eagle River, WI

Lake Geneva was more about a few beers and seeing the new year OEM line ups in one place for the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. Eagle River Derby is all about racing probably a better location for a snow cross championship. Eagle River first year blues needs time to sort out what type of event they want. Time will tell.

Sorry, I don't know. Evidently the doos are coming from another vender and not Trackside, sorry. Also, I don't think there will be a very big selection of models. May not be what you are looking for. As I said earlier there seems to be very few 22's floating around. Also, as much as we'd like to have you here, admission and parking to to see a few sleds and not the racing seems a waste, JMHO. Come Saturday for the whole day. Racing from 10AM to 9 at night.

I was by his rig yesterday but it was all buttoned up, so I have no idea at this time. Also, don't know if he will be showcasing them. I know, at this time, there is no space reserved for them to be in the expo hall so if he did have them out, you'd have to purchase a pit pass to see them.

If your going, pay the extra cash for the pits, don't even hesitate, well worth the money.

Drove up 2.5 hours and what a big disappointment. Was told by various people on the phone at the derby track that Ski Doo and Polaris would be there also so 3 of paid the 35.00 dollars to get in and nothing there but 4 Yamaha and 4 Arctic Cats what a scam this turned out to be. Hopefully if they have this venue again next year it will be more organized. I'm sure the racing will be great as the track looked awesome and was nice to see the sponsered rigs but really just came to see the new sleds.

Sorry if this has been covered already. Will the races be televised at all? Going to be laid up for the next week and would love to watch some action. <br>

Friday races were very good. Great crowd. To those looking for the 22's we hade a couple of venders pull out at the last second, nothing we could do about that. John joined me yesterday for a couple of hours and it was great having him. Looking forward to him, Nora, and Grace coming for a Derby event. CBS Sports is televising and Amsoil is streaming the event. Don't know the hours involved. 10-9 racing today and we turn around and do it all over next weekend.

Great weekend! Crowds were huge and everyone I talked to enjoyed their time. We do it all over next weekend, and yes, it is still on. Heard that if needed, we'd haul snow from the U.P. I talked to those who design and groom the course and they said we should be pretty good unless we get a bunch of rain. If you missed this past weekend, come next weekend. It is the last race on the tour and 3 days of racing. Check WCDC.com for tickets. Nothing is up on the site yet but will assume that online tickets will be cheaper that at the gate. Rev

Ticket info is now up on the site. $50 pass for the whole weekend if you purchase on line. WCDC.com. Will report later on in the week on how the track is shaping up. Rev.

alright I got a couple questions how much does it cost to build/haul in snow for an event like this?
Wirev said above that they hauled in more then 1,000 loads of snow, plus they where making snow. Does each truck load of snow cost $100, $200 (fuel, labor, truck expenses) I thought he said above where they were hauling from (parking lots, no idea how far away) but could not find it. How much does it cost to run a snow gun for an hr.? $50, $200? I have no knowledge on this type of stuff.

Is the facility footing the bill for this, is "snocross" them selves paying the bill. I understand the local economy is benefiting some but this price tag has to be huge.

I am guessing the racers pay an entrance fee......is that correct? If so is that $50, $500?

Wirev I believe you are some how involved with the facility so don't share any info that can get you in trouble. I am guessing others on here have to have an idea (or wild a** guess) on some of these cost.

Its been 6-8 years since I have been there, its on the bucket list to get back there some day soon. Thanks for keeping us informed, lets hope another weekend can be pulled off.

All very good questions, Scott. None of which I can answer except the 1200+ loads for last week came from the airport right across the street from the derby. I'm the Track Chaplain there and I have no idea on the other stuff except to say it is an ISOC show, we have very little to do with it except to supply the venue. We have parking, food and drinks and that's it. I happen to be the only Derby representative on the track for open festivities each day and that was because their chaplain was off doing motocross. We are prepared to haul more snow this week if need be [heard it might come from the UP]. What has saved a lot of snow is that the base on the track had about 12-14" of ice [that's what we race on]. Just some added info, most race teams left their rigs here and went home but some have stayed. You can see some of them on the Track Cam. BTW, I am working on getting that Track Cam on John's system. Hope to see you soon. The new owners are working really hard to upgrade the facilities and bring more events onto the track. Have heard nothing but good reports from all the businesses in the area. Rev.

Back in the early 1980's we were skiing at Boyne in Northern Lower Michigan and had the pleasure of riding the chair lift with the Director of Operations at the time. I asked him how much it cost for them to make snow and he said $10,000 an hour if all machines are going! That included equipment, electricity and man power. Still scratching my head on that number.

It is expensive to make snow, but I doubt it costs $10,000 an hour to make snow unless they had hundreds of snow guns going. This article says it costs 78 cents per hour for electricity.

This article mentions cost per acre.
Based upon our experience, our client’s costs to make snow (depending mainly upon snow gun selection and to a lesser extent upon weather) have ranged from $70 to $2,100 per acre-foot including electric, pressurized water delivery and compressed air delivery to each snow gun.

Most nights they could make snow they had 3 guns going all night, and a few times there was one or two that were still going until 10-11 AM while we were hauling snow.

I see by the Track Cam that we are hauling snow. Forecast for the weekend is cooler with highs in the mid to lower 40's. Lows at night don't look good for make snow though.

I live in a community that has a small ski / tube hill and the chemicals that the snow equipment uses costs $100 per gun and it lasts about 3 hours. I have no idea if the equipment is the same as the stuff we have but chemicals for 3 guns would be $100 per hour plus the cost of water, electricity, and labor. It isn't cheap to make snow.
