Snow on the way! Let’s see how these Poo 850’s do!

Mine made it 10.7 hours before it lost an oil line to the crank. I’m waiting on an update from the dealer on how Polaris would like to proceed. There are lots of rumors flying around about poor cylinder plating (which I don’t buy) and further rumors about the PTO bearing being mis placed on some select sleds, blocking oil flow and popping lines off the PTO crank bearing housing. The sled was a ripper until my oil line came off. I’m hoping for a new crate motor. Fingers crossed that this doesn’t affect too many new 850 owners this early season. Bummer. How did you get back to the lodge? What did you do for the rest of the trip? Sucks.

My sled went down around noon on the final day. The motor did not seize, so I was able to get it off the mountain without too much issue. Its at the dealership hopefully being diagnosed today.

What was your production date? There are TEAM tips out that debunk/explain all the rumors that are flyin around...

10-31-18. I have loooked at all the team tips. One of them is talking about oil lines coming off the motor, which is exactly what I have going on.

I don't drive Polaris now nut had a 600 touring that never gave me even a hiccup, and I wont talk badly about any brand, but can you say..... embarrassing..... oooops , that thing has to be running beyond rich on cold start up to puddle that much fuel in the crankcase, sounds like a mapping issue, I couldn't imagine explaining that procedure to a customer potentially buying one or who has already purchased one. I thought the days of keeping extra plugs or flooded engines were a thing of the past, YIKES! hopefully this engine wont be egg in the face for them.

is it true all 850's came with a standard 4 year warranty? Seems like I saw this in a vid somewhere.

I have never heard of oil lines just coming off, or blowing off, without reason, before this Poo 850 failure deal??? The TEAM tip gave no reason for it happening??? Seems there has to be a definite reason, or cause of this issue??? If snobuilders reason, or cause is correct, this is a whole lot more than a small potatoes problem!!! These type things, no matter the MFR. need to be promptly sorted out, and customers treated with the truth of the matter. I can imagine most Poo 850 buyers are sitting on a puckered butt just from not knowing WTH is going on, I sure would be!!! That sucks as your planning on riding!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm surprised at all this, seeing how Poo corrected their 800 issue, with the 800HO. I didn't expect this kind of deal. Perhaps some kind of a short sighted idea, or procedure, that is at the root of all this.

That's a pretty extensive routine to solve not starting, especially on a new sled. I couldn't even tell you how to get to the plugs on my 5 yr old E-tec.

Thanks for putting this on here Matt. Bear, yes, all 850's came with a 4 year warranty. Hopefully there aren't a lot with this pto bearing issue.

Here is the Team Tip for you who didn't see it yet...as you can see Poolaris already has the smoke and mirrors out with them lumping in the 600 and 800 in with the 850 as having some sort of an oil line issue as well LMAO!.....

I agree that the team tip regarding the oil lines is somewhat suspect in sincerity from Polaris Industries. I think this issue only applies to the 850's, and their aim is to get people to no just re-install the oil lines, but they are hesitant to pin point any specific problems, as I would if I were them. In regards to my personal experience, if it turns out that I lost the PTO oil line, (99% sure I did) I would hope for a new motor, or complete tear down and inspection of the crank bearings. I doubt Polaris wants to go through the time and expense of that. My intuition tells me I will have a new motor on the way, and my original engine will be headed back to the factory for tear down, inspection, and confirmation of the issue that seems to be plaguing a very small percentage of 850 motors. I am just happy I didnt loose my motor 15 minutes later in the day, as we would have been in a no-tow out zone, and I doubt Polaris covers chopper rides in their 4 year warranty! lol

I will say that while concerning Mr. Breeze is the first actual owner of an 850 to report a problem. Atleast from what I have seen. Lots of "my brothers friends buddy" and "I heard a guy on snowest" stuff but this is the first owner posting pics with an issue. Is there more? Maybe but when you snowcheck what 5,000 or more what do you expect? I don't think poo would put a 4 year warranty on something they weren't sure about. Stock holders don't like decisions like that... Remember finding people with problems on the internet is like finding sick people at the doctors office.... Im gonna continue to ride my machine (if it ever snows....) just how Ryan told me to, LIKE IT OWES ME MONEY!! LOL.

I am not the first. I am only the first one it happened to that posts on Johndee. There are others from western states that have already had new crate motors installed because of the PTO oil line coming off. We will see more now that portions of the midwest will finally have rid able snow. I don't think the issue is widespread, and will only affect a small run of 850's. Polaris knows about this issue, they are just not releasing anything public at this point. I guarantee the powers that be will not be surprised when they receive the service request/warranty claim from my dealer. I think it will more likely be "Hey Billy, we have another one!"
