Interesting information Ezra, as I read the last dozen posts about "movement of bearings on the crank", I was thinking "why aren't rods breaking"?

Although not confirmed, I heard that an Eskimo blew a seal on his 850.

I'm sorry John, I tried to leave it alone, but I just couldn't resist.

One of the reasons Pol went away from Fuji supplying their engines was so they could have better control over how the engines were assembled. Back in the Fuji days the Pol engineers would design a motor and basically build the originals from scratch. Then they would test and tweek and get it perfect. At that point they would farm it out to Fuji for mass production. And Fuji would bid out things like cranks and bearings and pistons and rods. And they would take the cheapest bid. What a concept. I can think of no better example than the 1995 model year Pols which had chronic crank problems. The XLTs, the RXLs and even the usually indestructable 500 liquid twins were all assembled with inferior cranks. By Fuji. That year 8 of us took 8 new Pols of various models to Wisc for our annual week of riding. 4 of them came back blown. Good thing we had 2 Trail Indys for spares. Not long after this Pol started building their Liberty motors. Pol has never had much luck building 800s. Their early 2000s XC 800s liked to swallow exhaust valves and the PTO side crank bearings were a known issue. Then came the mighty Fusion 750 vibration monster which was a total and complete abortion. And then from 2010 until now there have been good years and bad years. New design motors that perform well during spring before release are not the same engines you end up buying in a full production sled. The prototype engines are hand built by people that know what they are doing. Production - not so much.

I just can't buy into the fact of Poo going from "prototype" build, to production run, without at least several "pilot/initial" build runs down the real line, in real time!!! If so then the consumer is the test rat!!! No thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! Unacceptable!!!!!! Maybe this is the reason for 850 snowcheck only?????????????

Check the last couple of pages on the discussion at DOOTalk, someone posted a letter from Polaris stating they were aware of these issues, and said they affect a small number of sleds and that they are committed to taking care of anyone who experiences problems. I hope they do take care of their customers, it really sucks to have a new sled with problems.

As someone who works in product support and primary deals with customer issues.....”small number of sleds” = “Most, if not all, 850s built”.

Companies don’t send out letters to address a small number of sleds.

Good on them for acknowledging the issue...fix the sleds and everyone will be happy..
