I have an Ariens deluxe 28, a little overkill for my driveway but very easy to throw around and wouldn't think about going smaller!

Do you have auto turn on yours? What year is it...some people complain about the auto turn.

barry.. just purchased a brand new ariens 28 deluxe last weekend.. 170 foot driveway, 4 cars wide at the garage. this snoblower blows! in a good way! ha ha auto turn, led light, electric start, throws snow 50 feet. took me 40 minutes in 9"+ of snow.

So If Im following your saying keep the $740 24 inch cub cadet (I can return to Costco still), and not buy the $1200 30 inch ariens and then pay someone to push it a few times a year?

**** if u can return just pay and go riding .

The best snow removal equipment is somebody elses snow removal equipment. X5 on hiring it done. One less thing in your garage to stumble over the other 9 months of the year.

Put LED's on the front and back of my garden tractor. WOW....what a difference!

"Driveway is 33 x 50 by the garage area. Overall driveway length with circle turn around is 470ft long, and on average 12 ft wide. Some 11ft, and some open to 13 ft wide"

I had to let this soak in a bit. I'm with some of the other guys here......find somebody reliable to plow. If they can get to you when YOU need them, to me it's a no brainer. Keep your 524 to tidy up areas for go with an Ariens to tidy things up.

Unless you go to a bigger tractor/blower setup, you're going to be doing a lot of walking IMO!!!

That is funny. I hate fumbling around the snowblower in the off season.

Why is everyone so hot on the Ariens? I have a 12 year old Honda that blows the crap out the neighbor's brand new Ariens. The throw is much different.

To the OP, get a much bigger snowblower for that much drive and number of snowfalls. No need to spend half the winter moving snow if you want to ride.

I find that pushing snow around with my 5' Moose county plow on the Sportsman is almost as fun as sledding. The quad is a great tool all year long as well.

30" Ariens all day long. They are much better built too than the Cub Cadet or many others. The Cubs like so many out there are nothing but a different painted MTD shell. Look at them side by side, they have both at Home Depot, you can tell the Ariens uses a thicker gauge steel on the housing. Makes for less flexing and issues down the road.

Now when it comes to motors, sorry to say almost all of them now have gone to the Chonda's (China made Honda knock off)

They do not rate them in HP anymore, usually CC's or torque value. Here's a cross ref from CC's to old HP values:

123cc=4HP
179cc=5HP
208cc=5.5-6HP
277cc=7-8HP
291cc=9HP
305cc=9-10HP
342cc=11-12HP
357cc=13HP
420cc=13-15HP

I helped the neighbor for quite some time yesterday trying to fix a flat tire on his Ariens. I tried the strap around the tire to set the bead. No luck. But...

I have changed my view a bit on the Ariens. The wheel spine drive is very well built. It will out last any wheel shear bolt.
It does make it tough to take off the wheel. Use 2X4 and light touch with the mallet.
