oootay I have run sea and snow for yrs and before that interceptor before that ipon before that cat oil and Yama lube and don't remember the name but the tall steel cans with the pull ring like a beer can.
all in all I have to say my cheep ars sea and snow works just fine and a lot of my crew has converted over the yrs.
what ever gives u that warm and fuzzy feeling at 8200 rpm is what u should use. but remember that oil is in your jug 1/136 of a second at 8200 rpm

$20 wow u got ripped off lol.
I got it for $7 bucks a gal after rebate this fall at the man mall. I may not even need to restock next yr

dont remember but next time I go to the family land I will jump in the old silo hole and see if any of the hundreds of empty's still have paint. I still have a few of the old steel gas cans we would shake it together in the ones with the Eskimo guy on them

Okay, serious answer: First, what does your sled require (mineral, semi-synthetic, or synthetic)? Then find one that meets the latest standards (JASO FD and/or ISO-L-EGD). Make your final pick based on the oil meeting all the requirements -- NOT based on price and/or brand. Unless, of course, you don't mind paying through the nose and believe that the more you pay, the better the oil you're getting.

when you switch from say polaris blue to sea and snow do you try and empty the reservoir or just mix the oils....

I have ran the Mistake (mystic) for a couple years now without issue. I like it cause it's cheap. Fun FACT though.....
Polaris ran a side by side life test. Ams oil vs Polaris oil and the ams oil motor burnt down first every time. I heard this from a friend that worked at Polaris. I think the best oil, whatever that is, will help your parts last longer. But you have to clean your exhaust valves anyways and throw some new rings in em eventually no matter what.

Of course it did. My best friend's cousin's roommate who delivered newspapers to Arctic Cat's CEO said he heard off the record that Polaris platinum oil is the best. They did a side by side test in 2002 and the engine with the platinum oil is still running in the lab 12 years later. The parts group then banned this oil and destroyed the recipe.

Back in the day when I was a young whipper snapper and bag trips were about every 2 weeks (I was kinda like indy500 but I had my own place and GF) we'd pour in whatever we could buy at a fuel stop. Yamalube, Injex, Polaris.....it didn't matter back them and I doubt it does now. Matter 'o fact our 98 Poo 500 has been on several bag trips and gets whatever oil is available and the compression is still good at 9,000 miles. BTW - there's Mystic in it now and a gallon of it in the garage.
