Moose were on 15 north, about 20 miles north of 2. Since we were the first ones on 15 for about the first 35 miles, the various animal tracks on the trail were unbelievable.

The riding I did this past weekend was just to prep the boy for his Saftey cert driving test. He passed, so this weekend we ride with a Certified rider.

Very cool! Love to see the younger people enjoying the sport. This will be a weekend for him to remember. Have a great time!

what is southwest trails charging for cert training this yr ? only asking becuse club's can now charge what they want . we last year were offering free to kids who volunteer cost for club members and like 50 to non members .
now we decided if you or your kid are not in a club go some place else to get your cert

We had 51 kids last Saturday in our class, we didn't charge anything but thought pretty heavily about doing the free for club members or MNUSA members and charging a fee for non but just glad there's some interest and I think alot of the people probably wouldn't do it for an extra cost besides the $25 and $5 fees there already paying from DNR and online test. Not the kids fault there parents don't join clubs and do there part. I would say out of the 51 kids we had on Saturday no more than 5 maybe as few as zero were members of a club pretty sad but maybe or hopefully maybe some of these new sledders will want to be more involved when they get older, if not maybe we need to do a better job of getting them involved

Wow, wouldn't think that is a great way to grow the sport. Encouragement is so much better. We need to look to the future if we are going to be having trails and groomers.

The signup was $5.00 per child. The sign up was processed via the Community Ed and there was a small cost to have them process the registration. We had 35 kids and all of them passed. Our club does not intend make money on this. we did manage to sign up two new members to the club that is a positive thing as like all clubs there is a severe lack of volunteers to do the trail work.

you are talking MN correct? It used to be that clubs could only charge an extra $5.00 to help cover some of the training cost. Are you saying this changed, if so when as I have not personally heard anything about it. Up to about 4-5 years ago we always had to cap our student number off at 50 just to keep the class size at a manageable number. The past 3-4 years we have only had 25-30 students. We are in the north metro.

I do believe it changed now that you can charge whatever you'd like, it it hasn't changed yet it's in the process.we also were in a rut for a few years of 10-15 numbers and last year and this year jumped. I think it's alot to do with the parents, and the good snow last and early snow this year, have also found kids are crazy busy with sports these days crazy busy, most the kids that cant make it work that day is due to hockey, wrestling, basketball or volleyball games, actually I heard that the last two years for our town that the class sizes were bigger for that group too.
