Specs: Polaris Blue vs. Sea and Snow

I cannot find the information online to compare the two.

In the Polaris manual for a 550 fan that I'm getting it just says Polaris Blue and doesn't give the specs.

I have access to Citgo Supergard Sea and Snow and I was told that it's 100% identical to the Mystic Sea and Snow that you guys get for super cheap. I see that oil is only recommended for air cooled motors and not liquid cooled so it seems like it would be perfect.

Are the specs the same?

Per the Citgo document... "Not recommended for engines requiring an NMMA TC-W3, TC-WII, or TC-W product."
I think I would pass on the Sea and Snow stuff. There is a reason its so cheap. I wouldn't trust it.

The first paragraph tells it. For use in air or liquid cooled PWC and sleds.

TC-W3 is ashless spec so you don't pollute waterways.

Mystic oils are made by Citgo petro corp. It has the same specs because it's the same oil.

I just wonder what the specs are compared Polaris Blue so that I don't have the possibility of voiding the warranty.

According to that PDF (dated 5/2005), the Citgo S&S spec is JASO FC. Mystic S&S is JASO FD (next higher spec). Could just be due to newer testing on the same oil. Polaris doesn't seem to publish their specs so kinda hard to say what meets or exceeds the Blue spec. They just want to sell Polaris oil. For a 550 fanner, I would go with what is cheapest....

Yeah Jaso FD came out in 2006. The diff between FC and FD is FD has more detergents.
Actually I wasn't even aware Citgo still had their own branded 2T oil. I haven't seen it around here in years. And about that time Mystic started showing up.

I won't use Polaris oils based on price.

I use Mystic JT4 because it is thinner viscosity then the sea and snow. CFI have dry bottom ends, so I want the oil to be flung around as much as possible.
Air cooled or carb ( not PTec) I would use sea and snow or whatever cheap 2t oil was around that had a Jaso FB and newer spec.

Okay so Polaris are IMO a bunch of jerks because they want to sell their oil and won't publish specs. Unreal because it's against Federal Law for them to say that someone has to use a specific brand of oil.

Sounds like the Sea and Snow is the way to go.

srt20; I've been trying to locate this oil around where I live and I looked on Mystic's website and it pointed me to a dealer. The dealer explained that Citgo puts the 100% same oil on 2 different brands.

So $55 for 4 gallons I can't beat it. Too bad it isn't TC-W3 or I could run it in my Optimax.

They make JT4 in a TC-w3. I accidentally bought a gallon once. It worked just fine in my sled.
So they might have a S&S TC-W3 also?

Btw, Lubrication Technologies makes Polaris oils. I know that as fact. But I also read on Internet that Lubrication Technologies also make BRP and Arctic Cat oils. Though I haven't confirmed that as fact yet.

Another BTW, mystic S&S goes on sale at fleet farm and farm and fleet every so often and they also have a mail in rebate. Finally tally is $7 or $8 a gallon.

Don't feel bad; Doo doesn't publish their specs either. It's their way of scaring you into thinking you HAVE to use their oil. You're right, they can't require you to use their oil (with certain exceptions). Since they can't legally require it, they resort to scare tactics. And quite often, it works.

Let's see......ummm.... I used only one gallon of oil last year (sled sips it). So I will skip the Wisconsin trail permit and I'm covered. (Sarcasm ).

I have been using it for over a decade as have many in my crew no oil issues ever .

Polaris will void your warranty

then lawyer up because that is not what federal law states . if any oem or dealer did void u for that U need to have them give u that in righting then sit back and just Waite for your brand new sled and the cash for the missed season. they will automatically loose so I guarantee it will never see a court room one fax over to there lawyer done deal

The only way any OEM can void your warranty is if you use an oil that does not meet their specs. Since Jaso FD is the newest spec they cannot deny you for oil. I not sure if any oils are still being sold with the old specs, but they are all very similar except the very first Jaso spec.

Though they could try something else like abuse or you were driving it on to much snow....

XPS oil was a joint development of Castrol and Bombardier. Bombardier wanted a ‘universal’ high performance engine oil that they could use in all their recreational products. That meant oil would flow freely at –40 deg/f and still maintain sufficient film strength at 350 deg/f. The first generation of XPS (1995) was formulated using Ashless detergents; this allowed the Rave valves in the then new 787 motor to stick. The formula was later changed (1996) to a low ash detergent that eliminated the rave valve sticking problems. There have been several minor improvements in XPS since 1996. Castrol remains the only manufacturer of XPS. This is a proprietary blend sold only by Bombardier.

Side note, I have heard that SOME BRP dealers will ask you to sign a paper that you will run XPS oil in etec or else void warranty. If you sign that paper and don't run XPS and have an issue, you may legally not be covered, otherwise yes its against the law to void a warranty as long as the oil passes certification. My dealer never asked me to sign any papers regarding oil. Its up to dealer IMO not Polaris or skidoo to cover you warranty claim. I kno for a fact if my etec blew up tomorrow, which is under warranty, there would be no questions asked on to what oil I was running.

I have ocean front property in Arizona to sell anyone who would sign a piece of paper from a dealer about what oil they are going to use.
