Well, its not official yet, but if you have plans to camp in a Minnesota State Park this weekend, and they do shut down, better stay home......

Based on Wednesday's ruling by Judge Kathleen Gearin, here is what would be open and closed during a state shutdown.

COURTS
Would remain open at all levels.

LICENSE PLATES
State Driver and Vehicle Services Division would be closed, but deputy registrars could renew license plates. Driver's license exams would not be available.

DRIVER'S LICENSES
People will be able to renew licenses at driver's license agent offices. Driver tests would not be available.

EDUCATION
State funding for K-12 schools would continue, but the state Education Department would largely be closed.

HEALTH/HUMAN SERVICES
Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare, food stamps, welfare benefits, child support payments, county child protection services, refugee assistance, supplemental aid and some services for disabled people would continue. Child-care assistance, services for the deaf, Senior and Disability linkage lines, criminal background checks and food shelf distributions would stop.

HIGHWAY REST STOPS
Would close.

HUNTING, FISHING LICENSES
Would not be issued. DNR officers would continue enforcement.

MILITARY/VETERANS
Veterans homes would stay open, along with critical assistance programs. Tuition reimbursement claims would stop and veterans' outreach claims offices would close.

MINNESOTA STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
Would remain open.

MINNESOTA STATE LOTTERY
Would close.

PUBLIC SAFETY
State Patrol would stay on. The state's prison system would keep 3,600 of its 4,200 employees, including most of those who deal directly with offenders. Local police will likely be unaffected, since the state will still send local government aid.

RACE TRACKS
Canterbury Park and Running Aces would close.

STATE PARKS
Would close.

STILLWATER LIFT BRIDGE
Would remain open.

TAXES
Taxes would be collected, but no refund checks would go out. Tax Court would be closed.

TRANSPORTATION
Most state-funded road construction projects would stop, except for emergency repairs. Twin Cities buses and rail lines would continue operating. South-metro bus lines would keep operating.

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
Would be paid.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
Would remain open

MINNESOTA ZOO
Would close to the public

And a leadership problem! Have you ever watched Mark Dayton speak to the news media during these negotiations? It looks like he gets a big electric shock every 4 seconds or so.

Here in MN we are already being taxed more than most other states. There are three 'bridges to nowhere' within ten miles of my house. We simply don't need a lot of this stuff they are ramming down our throats. Also a lot of govt employees around here are arrogant and think they are ultra-entitled. Many of these folks couldn't make it in the real world. I hope the stupid govt doesn't go back and retro-pay them when this finally gets settled. What am I saying? They will probably get some kind of hardship pay on top of their normal pay. Mn is so screwed up.

All the politicians involved went home for 4th July weekend for a cooling off period. LOL They very well could have passed a temporary funding bill to keep MN functioning but thought it was better to just walk away? :( Remember this at election time.

The state campground in East Grand Forks was full of campers, many Canadiens who had come for the long weekend and they kicked all of them out on Thursday, lots of them had paid for a week of camping and they told them they will get thier money back but they don't know when.

One of these days....

One of these days they're going to shut down a state and nothing will happen. They'll find that we can do just fine without the politicians.

Quoting from the movie Gettysburg, "most couldn't pour pee out of a boot with the instructions written on the bottom".

I wanto to know who was kicking them out better be state pattrol or fed agents no one else has any athority to say word one they are not working for the state as of fri at midnight.I would make them bring a fed or local cop to remove me.better not be any state worker at the gate or they are in violation of the law

DNR is still out in enforcement. I'm sure they could, and would.

They had to be out before midnight on Thursday because the park rangers were not working there after midnight, it seems funny that most of the things they closed were money generating things like the campgrounds, the state parks (they make money this time of year only) , the lottery, the horse track, fishing license sales, etc, but the things that cost them money are still running.
